Visited for a family meal. We asked to move to a quiet table as part of the restaurant was close to the bar area and noisy. Excellent home cooked food, brilliant service and good value for money.

November 2023

Lovely friendly pub. There were six of us who went for a Sunday Roast. Really delicious food and the puddings were amazing too. Would recommend this pub without hesitation. Service was excellent and staff friendly and attentive.

March 2022

We only popped in once - We fancied a cocktail as it was really hot and thought it would be fun to have something different, Mine came out warm with no ice and was tiny. We couldn't sit on tables outside unless booked but the entire time we sat indoors with no air-con, table were free outside.

June 2021

Sat outside and had a superb meal. Service and covid safety best in class. Staff genuinely helpful and friendly not scripted. Highly recommend.

April 2021

We visited the excellent Gordleton Mill on our recent holiday to the New Forest. All Covid-secure measures had been taken, the staff friendly and welcoming and the food delicious. We will definitely return when in the area.

November 2020

We recently enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Mill with friends. Despite arriving early we were made to feel very welcome choosing to be taken to our table on arrival of the whole group. The food was amazing and of ample portion size - the roast beef in particular melted in the mouth. There was a good choice of desserts - the cheesecake and also the crème brulee can be recommended. The live music added ambience to the experience without infringing on the conversation. The staff were polite, friendly and attentive. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Mill and would certainly return when holidaying in the area in the future.

Really nice place, gardens are good fun with the kids and something different that's free... meal was really nice, servers really friendly, although we did have to chase a couple of things, thoroughly enjoyable lunch

as guests of Apple court house the gardens were available for us to browse- however, one day we found out someone had opened the gats and entered the gardens for themselves arguing that they had driven from Devon. Wrong time of year to get the advantage of the beauty but could visualise the attraction

Barton on Sea
(3 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

March 2024

A lovely place to stay. So much to see and do locally and within easy reach.

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

June 2023

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Great for a dog walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. Needles Eye cafe is a welcome break, quite good food but very busy and a bit basic.

December 2017

Fantastic sea location with goods pubs, shops etc

November 2017

Lovely village, plenty of shops and places to eat - no post office though.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(4 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all.  For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months.  This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Nice beach with good facilities

April 2023

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

August 2021

Cottage is first class, could not fault it at all. Owners were great...friendly and informative.

August 2021

Fantastic property (house and gardens), amazingly well-equipped and we had wonderful holiday. The owners were lovely, very friendly and happy for us to use the gardens. Their dogs are adorable! We'd hoped to book somewhere nearer the beach but left it too late-no availability-however this location turned out to be brilliant for us, being fairly convenient for forest AND beach. Desperately wish we'd been able to get 2 weeks, not one. Despite initial reservations about renting in pandemic, we are so glad we went, didn't want to come home and can't wait to stay there again. It was a perfect family holiday-best 'New Forest Cottage' we've rented, in 30 years. Would give it 10* if I could!!!

July 2021

We (3 generations of the family) had a most wonderful stay at Summer Haven. We received a warm and friendly welcome from Carol and Martin, and the house generally was excellently furnished and equipped, and the garden a joy. Highly recommended.

We basically came for some gentle walking, relaxation and to have a holiday with friends. All of which we did bathed in excellent sunny weather. Thank you

May 2019

We had such a wonderful week. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, Carol. Not only this but we arrived in the dark and rain and Carol was so kind in helping us carry all our bags in. Summer Haven was immaculate with a very comfortable layout and every convenience you could wish for. The conservatory was light, bright and toasty warm. It meant you could put your feet up/have a snooze and feel as though you were outside, which was lovely with there being a few April showers. It was also nice to be able to walk around and explore the large garden. Thank you so very much, we hope to be back next year.

August 2018

We had a very enjoyable holiday and were blessed with lovely weather for most of the stay. The New Forest is a wonderful location, with countryside and coast equally accessible. June 2018

Yes really enjoyed our stay and very happy to recommend to friends and family.

May 2018

Very enjoyable stay (apart from the weather!). Host family very helpful without being intrusive. Property in excellent condition.

April 2018

The property is very well located for visiting Beaulieu Motor Museum, Bucklers Hard, Hurst Castle, New forest and the south coast. It is spotlessly clean, modern & stylish. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory overlooking the gardens. It was spacious for a family of six. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

October 2017

We were welcomed by Carol and Martin, who showed us around and kindly left some milk and a sponge cake. Everywhere was in excellent condition and the quality of beds, bedding and towels were first class too. The garden around was well tended and a joy to look out onto, together with pretty flowers in hanging baskets and pots around the patio area for us to also enjoy. They certainly made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. It was really nice to have clean kitchen equipment to use and not bashed about pots and pans etc. Obviously they have put a great deal of thought into this property and made it very comfortable indeed. I would only make a couple of points which may be helpful. 1: It would be useful if they could leave a list of phone numbers and addresses of the Doctor, Hospitals, pharmacies, Dentists, nearby in case anyone should need these. 2: Although there is underfloor heating on the ground floor, it could be useful if there was another movable electric heater, i.e. convector or fan heater, as when the evenings suddenly become cool, it takes a while for the underfloor heating to come up to a higher heat, Luckily there is no problem upstairs as there are radiators which you can adjust accordingly. We had a really lovely week and the property is ideally positioned as we thought, for getting around the beautiful areas of the New Forest. We also thank your staff for their friendly, efficient help when booking and we shall certainly hope to use your company again.

September 2017

We had a lovely last minute bank holiday break in this lovely cottage. The owners made us feel so welcome. We went on a long walk in the forest and on the beach at Highcliffe and crabbing at Mudeford Quay. Lucy loved playing with the dogs!

September 2017

We had a wonderful two weeks at Summer Haven. The house is fantastic and has absolutely everything we could possibly need. Thank you Martin & Carol for the kindness & friendliness and the great suggestions for places to visit in the area. The kids had a brilliant time in the beautiful garden. We loved the area and the house....we will be back! P.S The dogs are wonderful!!!

September 2017

We had a fantastic holiday at Summer Haven. The owners Carol and Martin could not have been more welcoming. The finish and standard of fixtures and fittings were at an exceptional standard and very comfortable. We only wished we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be back next year if they will have us.

August 2017
