Exeter’s favourite attractions 

Let’s get started with your holiday planning then, as Exeter’s favourite attractions have something for everyone. Make like a local and head to Sandy Park to cheer on Exeter Chiefs rugby team. Even if you’re not too into the game, it’s worth going along just to experience the atmosphere, and it’s easy to reach from the city centre.  

Next, it’s got to be the beautiful cathedral. The cathedral hosts events throughout the year, and if you’re keen to enjoy the architecture and get to know more about its history, there are guided tours inside most days of the week. The cathedral green is surrounded by some of the city’s most popular restaurants too, so why not book a table and dine with a view? 

Just moments from the cathedral, you’ll find that busy city centre with its many High Street shops. Head to Gandy street to get off the beaten track and grab a bargain, and with cobbled streets and quirky boutiques it’s the perfect spot for souvenir shopping.  

Restaurants in Exeter 

However you choose to work up an appetite, there are plenty of restaurants in Exeter to impress hungry foodies. Harry’s Restaurant has always been a favourite with visitors and locals, and it serves up a global menu with a warm atmosphere. Cote specialises in French cuisine, and Tea on the Green is a top choice for that all-important cream tea with a view. Why not wander down to the quay and tuck into a pizza at The Waterfront? Or, just across the water, you’ll find the ever-popular Samuel Jones.  

Speaking of the quay, if you hire a bike from one of the hire shops beside the water you can hop on two wheels and cycle your way along the canal. The Double Locks pub and restaurant is an easy ride from the centre of the city, and you’ll feel a world away from the hustle and bustle. The beer garden extends into a sweeping lawn, perfect for picking a picnic bench and enjoying a ploughman’s by the water on a sunny day. This is of Exeter’s most dog friendly spots too, and a great place to chew the cud with the locals while you unwind.
