Padstow’s favourite attractions

Padstow is surrounded by glorious sandy beaches, walking paths and the popular Camel Cycle Trail. A flurry of small shops line the cobbled streets behind the quayside too and offer everything from pasties to surfing gear, crab fishing kits and ice-cream.

Rick Stein’s acclaimed restaurants are based here, and you’ll find other fab foodie spots like The Chough Bakery and Cherry Trees Coffee House that offer plates or suit every palate.

The Camel Trail

This 17 mile, mostly flat trail is a scenic and rather famous recreational path that meanders along the banks of the River Camel. It’s ideal for cyclists and walkers as well as families with pushchairs and wheel chair users, and is one of the best ways to take in the sights and sounds of nature and the beauty of the landscape. The trail passes through lush woodlands and meadows, as well as alongside the Camel River and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Obby Oss Festival

Each year on May Day, Padstow celebrates Spring with this vibrant festival which is steeped in local folklore. Full of colour and exuberance this is merrymaking at its best, and is the biggest day in Padstow’s calendar with around 30,000 people descending on the town. Two ‘Osses’, The “Old” and “Blue Ribbon” are paraded through the streets, accompanied by musicians and dancers as well as throngs of people. The festival attracts both locals and visitors and is a feast for the eyes and senses.

Padstow Harbour

The heart of this fishing town, Padstow Harbor is a bustling and picturesque spot to explore. Take in the sights of a proper working quay as fishermen unload their daily catch, or buy a delicious fish and chips down on the waterfront and find a perch to watch the boats bobbing on the water. There are also numerous operators offering boat trips and excursions which is a great way to explore the stunning coastline and nearby islands.

Beaches

Harlyn Bay

Harlyn Bay is a beautiful and sheltered family-friendly beach located about 3 miles west of Padstow. A crescent of golden sand as well as calm waters make it a popular choice for sunbathing, splashing in the shallows, swimming, surfing, and bodyboarding. There are also facilities like a beach cafe, surf school, and ample parking, making it a convenient and enjoyable destination for beachgoers.

Constantine Bay

Around 4 miles west of Padstow, Constantine Bay is another terrific beach known for its consistent surf conditions and natural beauty. The long stretch of sandy shoreline is backed by sand dunes and cliffs to give an atmosphere of seclusion and tranquility which attracts families as well as surfers of all levels. Constantine Bay is lifeguarded during the peak summer season.

Elizabethan Architecture

Prideaux Place is a must-visit attraction for all the family that will wow you with its 16th Century architecture and stunning grounds. This magnificent Elizabethan house boasts beautiful gardens, and a wonderful collection of artwork and antiques. Visitors can explore the grand rooms, stroll through the manicured gardens, and enjoy panoramic views of the Camel Estuary from the estate.

National Lobster Hatchery

Bringing awareness to visitors and the community about marine conservation and the fascinating world of lobsters, is the National Lobster Hatchery. This unique attraction plays a crucial role in protecting and preserving the local lobster population – a valuable source of income to local industry. Visitors can witness the various stages of lobster development and even adopt a baby lobster.
