Situated in the heart of the charming village of Dittisham and enjoying extensive views across the village and the Dart estuary, this gorgeous 18th Century cottage, originally a farmhouse, provides extremely comfortable and attractive accommodation in this very desirable location. The property has the great advantage of a private drive with ample parking, a secluded sloping orchard garden and most rooms benefit from the beautiful scenery, not least the spacious terrace that extends across the river side of the house, a wonderful spot for breakfast on a sunny morning or a drink in the evening to enjoy the view and watch the busy life of the river. This is a superb house, cosy for a single family and big enough for two families holidaying together.

Further steps lead down to a lower level of lawn, also with wonderful views.

A destination for keen sailors, fishermen and artists alike, the tranquil location of Dittisham is hard to beat. This attractive riverside village nestles on the banks of the serene River Dart, and benefits from a couple of pubs and the wonderful waterside Anchor Stone Café

The pontoon is a popular place for kids and families to relax and have a go at crabbing. This favourite holiday activity inevitably results in shrieks of delight as the cranky crustaceans are admired and compared whilst their captors try not to get nipped! Our top tip for crabbing success is to bait your line with little bits of bacon which crabs seem to find irresistible.

Directly opposite Dittisham, and just a short ferry ride across the river is Greenway House, once the holiday home of the famous crime author, Agatha Christie. The house along with its stunning river bank gardens are open to the public, and definitely worth a visit. Dogs are very welcome too, in the gardens on a short lead. This stretch of river has seen plenty of historic vessels pass by over the centuries, with tales from Viking long boats exploring the waters to American landing craft rolling past during the 2nd World War.

A variety of locally grown sweet plum, the 'Ditsum plum' was named after the village. You might spot some in the orchards over the summer months, or if you are lucky you might even get to taste some. They are sweet eating plums particularly good in jam – perfect for a Dittisham twist on a Devon cream tea!

The market town of Totnes and the waterfront town of Dartmouth are close to Dittisham, both with plentiful shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants. The towns also have supermarkets, handy for stocking up on your weekly shop.

There are also numerous beaches close to Dittisham. We recommend driving the breathtaking coast road from Dartmouth towards Torcross and stop off at Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands on your way. You can also hire boats and have sailing lessons from the Dittisham’s pontoon, so whether you’re a complete beginner or an established sea dog you’re sure to be tempted onto the water during your holidays.

A holiday cottage in Dittisham makes a great base for exploring the beautiful River Dart and the stunning stretch of coastline around Dartmouth.

I cannot believe these reviews. We were in Dittisham I believe the 4th of October. We went in the Red Lion after a steep walk and were rather tired .It was a joy just to see an inn and village shop and post office all in one.We ordered a drink and asked about food ,the young lady explained that the kitchen was closed but then the manager came out and offered to cook for us and we had sausage mash carrots and peas.Others then came in and had soup etc .We were very impressed at such kindness and good service, especially as yes they had the builders in.but no complaints from us .

October 2023

Really awful. The two ladies who run it are rude and arrogant. Don't expect a warm welcome. The toilets are filthy, the lounge is passible. Not recommended at all.

October 2023

Used takeaway dinner service ....prompt and efficient preparation of meals at short notice and tasty food

September 2023

A real community pub, post office and shop. Slightly eccentric but well worth a visit

May 2023

Heard some bad reviews about the Red Lion but found it to be a great pub with good food and an excellent well stocked shop. Also is a Post Office. Can collect warm croissants in the morning, have breakfast there, order bread.

August 2022

Not great. Dirty and not an option to eat in as menu so limited

August 2022

Fabulous quirky pub/shop/cafe at the top of the village. Staff really friendly and helpful, fabulous Dartmoor Legend ale. Well stocked shop - a bit of everything, and even hand-dived scallops in the freezer I noticed.

October 2021

Fantastic as a local pub, great food with lovely views on the terrace at the back …… but even better as a local shop …….everything you could need for self catering with fresh produce daily.

July 2021

Could not work our if closed or open? walked past one night and people sat inside, the next night door locked? A sign on the door may have been helpful.

June 2021

Very busy pub, but perfect for families with good play area. Food excellent

June 2021

Welcoming pub run by two ladies. Also the village shop. We strongly recommend that you support them during your stay. The view from their terrace is (almost) as good as the one from the Dower House!

June 2021

The heart of the village - pub/post office/shop all in one. As a result slightly feels like it's lost it's soul but nice to see everyone using the shop and post office side of the business and clearly a friendly local community. Nice enough views from the terrace, dogs welcome.

May 2021

The red lion is a unique place very friendly , and you can almost get anything you need here , and while you wait have a drink at the same time.

September 2019

Great they sell everything including beer bread milk eggs and a lot of other essentials and close when the pub closes. A very good idea as the nearest supermarket is about 3 miles away.

July 2019

lovely pub, lovely people, fantastic views

July 2018

Very good home-cooked food. Pleasant and attentive hosts.

May 2018

Fabulous, quirky, friendly all that a village pub and stores should be!

January 2018

Down to earth hub of the village Service always with a smile Don't expect luxury but it is amazing as not only a decent pub but post office and shop ad well As long as the pub is open it seems the shop is as well and it sells everything from newspapers & fresh croissants to cooked meats and household items

June 2017

Brilliant pub - has everything you could need in the shop, great little cafe and wonderful restaurant. Great for kids too.

June 2017

Very friendly and helpful staff. Has the advantage of an outside eating/drinking area. Reasonably well stocked shop/Post Office. Thoroughly recommend.

Anchorstone Café - Dittisham

Open for the summer season only from mid-March until the end of September this riverside café is a real gem, but hugely popular so make sure you book ahead.  Delicious seafood lunches including crab, lobster, mussels and oysters are the speciality, all in a beautiful setting.

Fantastic seafood and lovely location on the river but if you drive down you can only do this at low tide

July 2023

An absolute must for seafood and fish lovers. Amazing views to go along with the fabulous food and drink. Very dog friendly. Booking essential in season!!

May 2023

Great food at the Anchorstone would recommend - you need to book well in advance

May 2023

April 2023

Fabulous

September 2022

Once we managed to get a table (only one day I’m entire week) it was fabulous! But closed two days of week Tues and Weds

August 2022

Fantastic lunch and great service

July 2022

The Anchorstone Cafe had such good reviews and our visit didn’t disappoint. We had a table directly overlooking the pontoon at Dittisham which was very busy and great fun to watch whilst dining. Prawns and scallops were delicious and that was just the starters, they serve amazing desserts too. Service was excellent. A must visit.

July 2022

Didn’t get chance to eat here, they make it difficult to book or look at a menu. Chain across the entrance, very unwelcoming, had to shout up to ask about booking. Didn’t bother in the end

July 2022

To call Anchorstone Cafe a "cafe' is absurd. A wonderful fish restaurant with excellent food and service.

May 2022

Didn’t use as Just way too expensive for a takeaway therefore unfair to rate in stars below as didn’t use premises

April 2022

Amazing lunches as always, wonderful menu, amazing staff and stunning location. Just sad to see Will and Jasmine leave.

September 2021

Almost don’t want to submit a review so we can keep Anchorstone a secret (however anyone who is in the know, is in the know) ………6 visits here during our recent trip to Devon and we’d have gone every day if we could have. I think that says it all. The Anchorstone & the tram there never ever disappoints!

July 2021

Food was lovely. It is difficult to book though, but highly recommended.

June 2021

A fantastic place for lunch during covid. Completely covered and most welcoming. Book to avoid disappointment!

May 2021

Hired the Lugger for a couple of hours. Lee was a star getting us sorted and I cannot recommend the location enough. Glorious. Professional set up. Walk around from the car park if driving to Dittisham and allow lots of time either side to enjoy the location and FBI...

April 2021

Fantastic food

October 2020

We did get take away from here, but we went in August and they didnt have a booking free until September! So if you do plan to go you need to book well in advance. Take away we did get was fine and service friendly.

September 2020

Excellent as before

August 2020

Excellent for coffee and cake although sadly they were fully booked all week for lunch so I would advise booking well in advance at peak season

August 2019

Unless you want to eat lunch at 1230 its virtually impossible to plan to eat here Putting your name on a list with a hope they call you when they have a table free is not ideal when trying to feed yourselves or your family

April 2019

Excellent. Pity it closed after our second day there.

October 2018

Always amazing, wonderful fresh fish and great staff. Definitely recommend.

September 2018

we have been every year for 7 years! we love the food, it never fails to please. staff polite and have the courtesy to tell you if there is a wait. it is always worth booking if you can but they only take bookings for 12.00, they wont guarantee anything after that

July 2018

We were very lucky in that we did not have to wait too long for a table: I would advise you to make a reservation in advance though as it is so popular. The food and service were excellent and one would be hard-pressed to find fault. We had a lovely table on the outside balcony so were able to enjoy the lovely views. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant is you have a liking for freshly-caught fish: the burger apparently is excellent too!

July 2018

Brilliant situation overlooking the water.. Food was a delight. Good coffee. Will certainly re-visit. Need to book. Very popular.

May 2018

Best food. .5 stars. You will always return there, cooking is fantastic.

October 2017

Love love love this place food amazing, hosting and service excellent and very friendly, location is just beautiful. We travel miles out of our way to visit the Anchor stone Cafe. Frequent diners.

What an absolute gem this is. Lovely coffee and cakes and wonderful seafood lunches. Great for kids & you can take dogs in the outside area.

I was hungry. But the FBI pizza was the best I have ever had. Seriously good. And a pint of the FBI was perfect. As for the location, get there before the sun dips behind the hill and you are rewarded. Top pub.

Lovely food and great place to watch world go buy. More restricted menu due to covid, but otherwise great.

April 2019

Went on a Thursday evening for the quiz night and food. Tasty food and friendly staff and fun quiz.

October 2018

A lovely atmosphere here and very friendly staff. We did not eat here although the food did look very good and not over-priced: best to book tables in advance. Fun to sit outside on the tables or the pontoon and just chat to visitors and locals.

July 2018

Simply brilliant! Food is hearty and delicious but booking advisable due to the limited number of tables. The beer and cider on offer go down a treat and Thursday's quiz night is great fun! Alternatively just sit outside with a good pint and watch the world go by! Dog and child friendly too !

A National Trust property and former holiday home of Agatha Christie, Greenway House gives an extraordinary glimpse into the life and sanctuary of one of the UK’s best loved authors. Set in the 1950s when Agatha and her family spent summers there, the house sits with riverside views over the Dart estuary and is surrounded by magical gardens and woodland. The inspiration for much of her writing, the house is also brimming with interesting artefacts, archaeological finds, botanical china and books to give a glimpse through the eyes of a spectacular creative mind, before heading into the café for a spot of lunch and a good cup of tea.

The House and Gardens and their location are outstanding. And the journey by ferry from Dartmouth just adds to the overall experience.

October 2023

Wonderful day out. Went by ferry from Dartmouth, worth doing this rather than driving and having to book a parking space. Quite a trek from the house down to the boathouse, but worth it - a very knowledge guide. In fact, knowledgeable guides in the main house too. We wanted to stay and have lunch but it was very busy, all tables full and on the day we went, the card machine was playing up, resulting in a 40 minutes queue to order food. Hence we took the ferry back to Dartmouth and had a late lunch there. Still worth visiting.

September 2023

Loved this house. Would loved to have been a house guest 'back in the day'.

August 2023

Well worth a visit and then walking to Dartmouth - was a great day out

May 2023

I super property to visit. Travelled by passenger ferry from Dittisham. Lovely walks around the garden as well as a very interesting house.

September 2022

Agatha Christie's holiday home. Easy to access on the boat. Excellent place to visit and very interesting. Nice walk around the property to the boat house.

August 2022

A really interesting place to visit, beautiful gardens. Thoroughly recommend visiting via boat along the river Dart.

August 2022

Would recommend a visit if you’re a big fan of Agatha Christie. Loved walking through the house and listening to the old fashioned music, was waiting for Miss Marple or Poirot to walk in. Recommend booking car space before going. It’s a long walk to entrance so need to think about mobility issues. But we were able to drop passengers off and go back to space. Lovely day out

June 2022

Wonderful NT property. So lovely to be able to touch items too! Beautiful grounds. Great trip on the boat from Dartmouth.

April 2022

very interesting house and garden. I felt the experience would have been improved with more information boards around the property. I recommend reading a book about the house and Agatha Christie/her family before you visit. Loved getting there on the ferry from Dittisham.

October 2021

lovely house and gardens down to the boat house, nice touch are the deck chairs on the lawn, lovely patio area for refreshments, approached on foot from Kingswear its a lovely walk through Longwood

September 2021

One of our most enjoyable days in South Devon: do take the ferry from Dartmouth, it's a lovely trip . The gardens are wonderful and the house enjoyable but sadly little information about the history of the house is given and there is no detail about the rooms one can visit.

September 2021

A lovely place to visit, enjoyed the house history and the fabulous gardens overlooking the water. Nice addition to access over the water from Dittisham but note that the water taxi stops before the house closes.

July 2021

Visited greenway house via the ferry , a very pleasurable day out

June 2021

Stunning house and fabulous gardens. The most beautiful views to the Dart. We caught the ferry from Dittisham which was amazingly convenient and a lovely way to arrive.

May 2021

Enjoyed arriving by boat and walking round the grounds, and then back on the Dart trail to Kingswear. Excellent coffee, and NT shop staff were very helpful. Didn't find the house as interesting as we imagined.

September 2020

A lovely place giving a real feel of the life of its previous owner. One of my favourite NT places. Can be reached by ferry or train. Makes a peaceful and relaxed day out in any weather.

August 2019

Lovely boat trip to this property, fairly steep climb up but there is a car available to drive you up there should you need it. Cafe very slow to serve and the queues were outside the restaurant .....so go in good weather Property and gardens a little disappointing.

June 2019

What an amazing place, easy to get to from Dittisham. The nicest National Trust place we have visited! Pop down to the boat house to meet the bank voles!

August 2018

One of the best NT houses we have visited. Absence of roped of areas in the rooms made it possible to immerse oneself in Agatha Christie's world

May 2018

Excellent and dogs welcomed into the garden as well. Beautiful house and gardens and location stunning. Enjoyed by all ages.

Highly recommend Totnes Kayaks. Equipment was top class and they couldn’t do enough to make sure we were happy with our hire. Great recommendations of where to kayak, what time and day to make the most of the tides

August 2019

Very helpful staff - both friendly and informative. A very pleasant afternoon spent - wish we'd had time to do it again.

Broadsands Beach
(3 miles)

In between Brixham and Paignton, this long, sandy beach is a popular spot with families, thanks to its sheltered waters, year-round facilities and easy parking. The Blue Flag beach is perfect for making sandcastles and searching for wildlife in the rockpools. There are toilets, and two places to get ice creams, coffees and soft drinks. What’s more, the car park is right by the beach, so there’s no need to lug your provisions a long way. Behind the pretty row of colourful beach huts, there’s a large grassy area, so don’t forget to pack a ball or rounders bat to keep the whole family entertained. Broadsands Beach is a popular dog walking spot throughout autumn and winter, but there is a seasonal dog ban during the summer months (1st May - 30th September).

Elberry Cove
(3 miles)

(1)

Far from the bustling crowds of Paignton and Brixham’s bigger beaches, this small pebbly cove is a truly relaxing spot. The calm waters are great for swimming and are said to have been one of Agatha Christie’s favourite bathing spots. Elberry Cove even features in one of her crime thriller novels, The ABC Murders. This picture-perfect cove, surrounded by sloping wooded hillsides and crystal clear water, can only be accessed by the coast path, with the nearest carpark at Broadsands Beach. From here, it is only a 10 - 15 minute walk, but make sure to pack a picnic or grab a bite to eat at Broadsands Beach before you set off, as there aren’t any facilities at here. Dogs are welcome on the beach throughout the year.

Lovely quieter beach, dog and BBQ friendly. We had teens that hired kayaks from nearby Broadsands beach and paddled around the coast to meet us. Very accomodating kayak hire and not too expensive.

Churston Cove
(4 miles)

If you’re willing to venture off the beaten track, you’ll discover one of Brixham’s hidden gems, Churston Cove. Surrounded by sloping wooded hillsides, this beautiful little cove isn’t the easiest to get to, which makes it an idyllic, peaceful place to while away the day. The crystal clear water is safe for kids to paddle and play in, and is a popular swimming spot. Parking is available at Freshwater carpark, a 15-minute walk away. There are no toilet facilities or cafes, and the beach is accessed via a long, steep path, which is uneven in places, but this beautiful little cove is worth the effort. Churston Cove is dog-friendly all year round.

Fishcombe Cove
(4 miles)

(1)

Take the coast path from Brixham and escape the crowds at Fishcombe Cove, a peaceful shingle cove, protected on all sides by tall red cliffs. Access to this little cove isn’t easy, via a steep path from Freshwater carpark, but it is definitely worth the effort. The clear, blue sea is sheltered and calm, making it a favourite with swimmers and kayakers. Fishcombe Cove is also a popular place for boats and yachts to moor up and make the most of the beautiful water. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a seal popping its head up to say hello. There is a café and toilets here, but both are only open during the summer months. Fishcombe Cove is dog-friendly all year round.

A lovely little cove perfect to have a dip in the ocean. Be warned though that there is a steep downward hill to get to it and it is a rocky beach so there is plenty of slippery seaweed around. It is nice and sheltered and wasn't too busy either so a great place to get your feet wet or to go for a swim. Would recommend :-)

St Mary's Bay
(5 miles)

The decent to St Mary’s Bay is one of the best views in Brixham, with panoramic views of the English Riviera. This beautiful, unspoilt beach has a carpark nearby, but we recommend walking there to make the most of the stunning surroundings. The sandy and shingle beach is sheltered by steep cliffs on either side, which means the decent to the beach isn’t easy, especially for those with mobility disabilities. There are no facilities at the beach, but visitors can take the coast path north to Berry Head Nature Reserve, where there is a great café and toilets, as well as stunning coastal views. Dogs are welcome all year, making St Mary’s Bay a great place to take a well-earned rest on your dog walk.

August 2023

Two families stayed at Dower House, great accommodation, very clean and comfortable with plenty of space. Definitely will return to Dower House for another visit. We would recommend the Anchorstone Cafe, lovely seafood and the pizzas at the Ferry Boat were a hit with the kids, staff so friendly and helpful. We took the ferry from Dittisham to Dartmouth which was great and visited Greenways, Agatha Christies holiday home. Dower house is in a great location

All fine. Friday changeover is not good. Saturday or Monday would be better

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we are very happy to hear everything was fine and you have rated your stay 5*. We often find the changeover day can be more flexible outside of the peak season so please always feel free to contact us and enquire about an alternative day. Best wishes, The Toad Hall Team.

July 2023

Great accommodation for 2 families . Plenty of space and lovely furnishings .

June 2023

Yes, very much. Nothing obvious. Lovely clean & comfortable cottage in good location. Welcome bottle of wine and biscuits much appreciated!

April 2023

Best house we have rented so far in Dittisham during last 10 years. We go every year at least 3 times on average)

April 2023

Very well appointed and cosy home. Very homely and comfortable. Great views and lovely location. Enjoyed it very much

October 2022

Lovely cottage and great facilities but just let down slightly by the cleanliness

Owner response: Many thanks for your feedback that the cleanliness was not up to our usual very high standards. This was an isolated incident as evidenced by our other reviews over the year – and we will be bringing this matter to the attention of our cleaning team.

October 2022

Fabulous return trip to the Dower House. Staying towards the end of the season, it was lovely and warm on chilly evenings and extremely comfortable with everything, anyone could possibly need in a home from home. The views over the Dart estuary from the patio are wonderful.

August 2022

Fantastic place for a family holiday, excellent location and views. Lots of room in the house for everyone (6 adults and one toddler), couldn't have wanted anything else. Will definitely be back again

August 2022

Made some lovely memories, lots of space in and around the house for both children and adults. All very clean. Breathtaking views of the river Dart, come rain or shine. Would definitely stay again. Floor level double shower was great for showering children after a long beach day.

August 2022

Truly wonderful. The only problem for us was the garden as in the brochure pics it looked a lot bigger but unfortunately was no good for teenagers! The other issue was that on the same site you rented the other part of the house to other guests. This was not stated in our holiday details and it was therefore not very private..Thankyou though for letting us stay there. The house and views were breathtaking.

Dear Guest, Thank you for this review and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time at the house. As indicated in the house advertisement, we make occasional use of the annexe for family or close friends. We do not rent this out. As you know, the terrace and parking for the annexe is tucked away on the other side from the main house to ensure privacy and the annexe does not overlook any part of the terrace or garden of the Dower House- only the car parking area. While previous guests have never raised any concerns about privacy, we are nevertheless sorry that you felt this way on this occasion. Best wishes

July 2022

Great stay, great location, great cottage. We had a wonderful week again with amazing weather. The cottage was perfect for two families.

July 2022

Our 2nd year at Dower House Stunning property, really feels like a home Down marked purely as no flutes for fizz …….there were last year so guess got broken & not replaced Plenty wine glasses but no quite the same Actually bought 4 & left them so hopefully next guests have some

July 2022

We had a fabulous week. Dittisham is a lovely village, an ideal base for exploring this part of south Devon. And the house is perfect! It's all beautifully decorated, comfortable, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. We are keen on birdwatching, and the view from the kitchen allowed us to see greenfinches and a great spotted woodpecker with minutes of our arrival!

June 2022

Our second visit to this beautiful house with an amazing view. Our grandchildren loved crabbing and paddle boarding, which were available just down the hill as well as the ferry across to Greenway. The house was immaculately presented and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a relaxing holiday.

May 2022

The accommodation and furnishings were excellent. The kitchen was well equipped and beds extremely comfortable. The views from the property were stunning and we were very sad to leave at the end of our stay.

April 2022

Dower House is a lovely, comfortable, well furnished cottage an excellent location.

November 2021

Lovely cottage, so spacious for us all. We had a great stay and would come back again - thank you.

November 2021

What a lovely place! Dower House was the perfect house for our multi-generational vacation. The location on the edge of Dittisham is ideal for boating, and for sightseeing in Dartmouth, Dartmoor and Torquay. The house itself is very nicely laid out for a large family, with plenty of space for socializing and also for family members to have room for themselves. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped, especially for a vacation rental, with all the cooking equipment we could have asked for along with high-quality appliances. And the view from the deck over the Dart is just lovely.

October 2021

Lovely spacious well equipped cottage in a good location with excellent views of the Dart estuary from the terrace and windows. Parking was also very good as our party had 3 cars. Unfortunately weather was not kind to us and the recent fuel shortage hindered us from exploring further afield. The ferries to Greenways and Dartmouth were excellent and the local shop located in the Red Lion Pub was well stocked. Unfortunately the Anchorstone Cafe was closed due to the owner/chef breaking their foot and The Ferry Boat Inn was only serving pizzas.

September 2021

beautiful house in a beautiful location. Amazing week

September 2021

Location and views from Dower House were fabulous. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful village. Cottage is in heart of village with a ten minute walk down the hill to the estuary and the Ferry Boat Inn. Closer pub on a level walk is The Red Lion/village store which is also ten min walk away. Dower is a spacious, comfortable well furnished home from home. Large well stocked kitchen with a large dining room and a cosy living room with TV. Beautiful views from every room. Torch is useful if you are venturing out on dark evenings for a walk to pub as there is no street lighting (helpful hint.. not criticism) but that added to the charm of this village. We loved our stay at this lovely large cottage. Would definitely return.

September 2021

Dittisham is an ideal location for exploring the Dart Valley. The kitchen was very well equipped and the dining room and sitting room were spacious and nicely furnished.

September 2021

Dower house is a beautiful property in the peaceful and very pretty village of Dittisham. The house was extremely well equipped. Lots to do in the surrounding area. The terrace is a lovely spot on a sunny morning or evening.

August 2021

Wonderful river views and close to the water but away from the main tourist hubbub. Terrace is a magical sunny place.

August 2021

A lovely cottage in Dittisham with fantastic views. The cottage was extremely well equipped and furnished to a very good standard. The property exceeded our expectations and I would thoroughly recommend this property.

July 2021

Beautiful cottage, idyllic location, the quality of the furnishings & furniture were absolutely superb, it was everything we hoped for and more besides, whilst there were only 2 of us, it would easily accommodate comfortably a large family or even 2 families. We can’t wait to go back again.

July 2021

Very enjoyable stay and would have no hesitation in recommending this superb property

June 2021

Yes we had a lovely time. The property is well maintained and has just been recarpeted throughout. It’s one of those cottages where you can spend time and be happy whatever the weather. The terrace is large with good views and the gardens are pretty . The rooms are all generously sized and the bathrooms were also a good size with modern fittings. . It is a lovely cottage

June 2021

An excellent property, well located for the ferry ( steep climb back up!) very comfortable and well equipped - we really enjoyed our stay

June 2021

Thank you for preparing the property so well. Another great week at Dower House.

June 2021

Again we really enjoyed staying here. It is a shame that the doors onto the terrace from the TV room and Dining room won't open. Also a shame that the terrace has a step down to the seating area (and broken flagstones make it rather hazardous). But this is by way of constructive criticism! I don't think the radiator in the second double bedroom works.

Dear Guest, We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The owner would like to say thank you for your comments and has the following to say as a result of your feedback. • We are having both doors to the terrace adjusted Friday 25 June. • We have checked the radiator in the end bedroom and it is coming on OK now. The system has been working fine since the new boiler was installed last year. • Noted your comment on the step down on the terrace. We will take this into account when we redesign this area, which is likely to be one of our next projects. Many thanks THC Team

May 2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Despite so-so weather, there was plenty to see and do. The house was perfect for two families including two babies.

May 2021

Beautiful house with stunning views from every room, well equipped. Dittisham is the perfect spot for a relaxing break. So much too see and do in the surrounding area. Would highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely stay. Annie & Neil

September 2020

This was our second stay at Dower House with the family and it was as perfect as we had remmebered it from our first visit. A really lovely and relaxing place to stay.

September 2020

A well presented cottage, with a good size outside terrace that catches the late afternoon sun.

September 2020

A beautiful house equipped with everything that you could possibly need. Felt like a home rather than a house.

September 2020

Beautiful home in a magical setting. Stunning walks. Great pizzas from the Ferry Boat Inn!

September 2020

Stayed in July 2020 - So exciting to be the first people here after the lockdown of March - July 2020! We've enjoyed drinks and meals out at The Red Lion which also sells many essentials including newspapers and milk. Went over to Greenway on the ferry, visited the grounds, then walked towards Kingswear on the other side and then the Dartmouth - Dittisham ferry back - A lovely day out!

August 2020

Lovely views from the house, having two reception rooms was good as it meant children could play without having to always tidy up. Lovely village and ferry service particularly useful

January 2020

What a fabulous place! The setting is gorgeous + the house is so cosy + nice. We have had the most brilliant family Christmas together! Thank you so much!

Thank you - a lovely house!

August 2019

We wanted a relaxing holiday and we certainly found it in this lovely house. It is beautifully furnished, and what great views! On our first night we used all 3 tills at the Red Lion, one for groceries, one for the Post Office, one to buy drinks which we enjoyed outside. We had drinks at The Ferry Boat Inn and an excellent meal at the Anchorstone Café. We used the ferry to Greenway (well worth a visit) and another ferry to go to Dartmouth!

May 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, Standard of accommodation excellent, very comfortable and well equipped cottage.

February 2017

A superb property, beautifully appointed and very cosy.

May 2016

my wife and i thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dower House, which we both feel is the best UK property we have rented to date especially for the quality of the property, the fixtures and fittings and the value for money for just two people to stay there. Will hope to book and stay there again. It really felt like a home from home to us.

February 2016

Really lovely cozy cottage, with great views! Loved the kitchen which was very well equipped. The heating and wood burning stoves kept us warm through a cold February stay. Dittisham is also a great little village with a lot to do in the area. Also like the layout of the cottage - the small steps were fine for our 20 month old daughter and we could close the doors in the various rooms, instead of using stair gates. Can't wait to come and stay again. Good off road parking for our two cars as we were two families staying. Having 3 bathrooms was also very handy!

December 2015

Our 4th visit, and Dower House never fails to impress from its views to the housekeeping.

August 2015

Great holiday and would use the property again.

July 2015

The Dower House was a lovely comfortable and well appointed house for our family group. A great location with beautiful views and easy access to the ferry so we didn't have to get the car out to go to Dartmouth and Greenway House. A couple of things we thought would make The Dower House even more comfortable: Nests of tables in the lounges to use for drinks when sitting on the sofas Cushions for the outdoor chairs A washing basket for taking washing out of the washing machine A bit more cutlery so we didn't run short before setting the dishwasher off.

May 2015

Lovely house with new sofas and carpets, fabulous kitchen with top quality fittings, perhaps another tv in the sitting room for when fully occupied but no matter, the view from the terrace and quite village are just a lovely, hope to return next year.

May 2014

This is a superb house in a fabulous location. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the river is a special treat for us. The house is beautifully furnished and equipped and there was nothing we needed that wasn't there. The bedrooms are large and the bathrooms are lovely with great showers and baths. The village is peaceful and the Ferry Boat Inn serves great food. Our stay has been blessed by the best of weather (24 degrees) and we can only give this house, the location and the area our highest recommendation.

March 2014

A very fabulous stay, lovely house and area. This is the second stay we stayed. I hope there is a third!

March 2014

Accommodation was very well equipped. Lovely setting. Nice sitting on the terrace watching the sails.

March 2014

Fantastic house, fantastic spot. Hope to be back soon.
