Those who enjoy walking can follow the South West Coast Path from Branscombe to Beer, and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and countryside along the way. Beer itself has won several accolades including being named Countryfile’s Top Picnic Spot. Slightly further to the west is Sidmouth.

The village has a number of historic buildings, including the Old Bakery and Forge, both National Trust properties. There is no outside space with the cottage but the popular Masons Arms pub opposite, has a sunny beer garden. It has a very good reputation for serving quality food and it is advisable to book early for a table in the restaurant.

Fantastic pub with the nicest staff. Could not fault anything. Spent three evenings out of our weeks holiday eating here and encountered very friendly, dog loving staff who made you feel special. Lovely food and staff. However no meals served to anyone on evening who were not staying at pub. Made to feel very unwelcome when you are told if not resident you cannot have food. A board outside explaining lack of staff means they cannot accommodate passing trade for meals would have saved embarrassment and feeling very unwelcome. People were turning up expecting food only to be turned away when there is nowhere else on a monday in particular in branscome to eat on the evening. Some very irate people which could have been avoided if a board was left outside explaining no meals on evenings so that people could have organised something else if they had known. Stumbled across this gorgeous pub after spending the day on Branscombe Beach. What a find! My husband had Hake as main course and I chose a chicken starter with portions of new potatoes and stem brocoli with almonds for my main. Both meals were delicious. We were very lucky to be served food as about 15 mins after we got there, which was about 6pm they were only allowing walk ins to have drinks so maybe worth booking as we get further into the summer. Well worth a visit

One of a collection of buildings owned by the National Trust, the tearoom at The Old Bakery is a relaxing place to sit and enjoy a delicious home cooked lunch, quick snack or a decadent Devon cream tea. Beer Quarry Caves

Like an underground cathedral, the Beer Stone Caves are awe-inspiring caves with mighty halls of vaulted roofs and pillars. The likely source of the stone for many of the cathedrals, buildings and monuments you have visited throughout the UK, the vast man-made complex of underground caverns was created by centuries of quarrying, and now you can take a guided tour to find out more about their history. The entrance leads directly into the Roman section, which now houses a small museum containing pieces of Beer stone carved centuries ago by skilled masons, the tools used by the Quarrymen and copies of ancient documents and photographs. From there, it’s a journey through the centuries, not to mention the setting for seasonal events as well.

A wonderful place for a family to visit. We loved it all from the playground, crazy golf, beautiful gardens, train rides and model trains. I didn’t expect our visit to last all day, but there was so much to see that it did.

A great little find for gardeners and horticulturalists. It is very well kept and lots of interesting plants and little pocket gardens to look at. There is a lot for young children to clamber over. The facilities were clean and handy. Its not a commercialised franchise but a lovely British tourist attraction.

Seaton Labyrinth

To celebrate Seaton’s 1000th anniversary in 2O05, the Axmouth Spiral Centre constructed a Labyrinth in the cliff field above the West Walk. A 60ft diameter spiral, the walk, which measures 453 yards from start to centre, connects with the way in which the 95-mile coastline reveals 185 million years of evolution. It has an eleven-circuit form based on a combination of designs, the labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France and the one at Saffron Waldron in Suffolk, and as you wander along the artistic installation, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding scenery as well.
The Buzzard Cycle Route

Cycling in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a wonderful way to get outside and explore the area. With miles of National Cycle Network across it, it’s also a comparatively easy way for cyclists to explore safely and really get to see the remarkable landscape that the area has to offer. With plenty of rural pubs, riverside taverns and tea shops along the routes to sit and enjoy, it’s a great day out for the while family. The Buzzard Cycle Route in particular (otherwise known as Sustrans regional route number 52) is a firm favourite amongst cyclists in the area, and is an opportunity to explore glorious East Devon on a regional 80-mile circular route around Sidmouth, Seaton, Axminster, Honiton and Woodbury. Some of the route follows the National Cycle Network Route 2 along the south coast of Devon.
Branscombe Beach

Nestled into a valley that reaches down to the sea, Branscombe Beach is tucked away on the Jurassic Coast, and is linked to a timeless, magical village of the same name. Surrounded by woodland and farmland, the area is peppered with thatched houses, a working forge and a restored windmill. It’s a National Trust location, with a number of charming walks and trails to follow, one of which leads to the Old Bakery tearooms. The beach itself was a long pebble beach until the winter of 2022 when storms rearranged the pebbles and is now a long sandy beach. It has a large car park close by where there are toilets available, as well as a picnic area. The beach is a haven for walking, relaxing and adventurous rock-poolers. If you want to catch your supper it’s a wonderful place to fish for mackerel and pollock, although the Beach Shanty Cafe on Branscombe Beach provides excellent local food.
Lovely place for a dog walk along the beach. Such a pity that the sea is eroding the cliffs around here.

One of the few beaches we found that had some sand on it, although it also had lots of stones too of course, and dogs were welcome. The option to sit on a grass area next to the beach was a bonus too. I had a swim in the sea whilst there which was lovely.

Lovely area but the only place you could get a coffee etc was the Sea Shanty and it was closed half term week!!!!! As the Sea Shanty and the Old Bakery were closed all week for me it let Branscombe down.

We loved walking to beach fro Branscombe. If you follow the signs and walk on the road to the beach its quite hilly so take the footpath from behind the cottages opposite the Masons Arms, its a nice flat walk to the beach, easy to follow.

Beer Beach

A small pebble beach in East Devon, Beer Beach is in a picturesque fishing village that hugs the shoreline. Parking is a little distance away from the beach itself, which is accessed via a sloping road and steps at the east end. There’s one large car park that’s around five minutes away on foot, and another smaller one in the centre of the town. As the beach is such an integral part of the town itself, there are cafes and shops close by, simply by dint of its location. There are toilets above the beach, so it’s got all the makings of a charming day out for the family in the summer, or somewhere to stroll and have a cup of tea if it’s a bit cooler. There aren’t any organized activities on the beach, so if you’re bringing the kids then keep that in mind. Dogs are not allowed on the West part of the beach from 1st May to 30th September.

Seaton Beach is a mile long shingle beach overlooking Lyme Bay in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of East Devon. The gently sloping pebbles make this an ideal place to take a dip or try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking or stand up paddle boarding with equipment easily hired on site.
An esplanade links Seaton town at one end of the beach and the popular Seaton Beach Café at the other. The South West Coast Path runs alongside the beach and a walk to the nearby picturesque village of Beer is a real treat. Dogs are welcome all year.

In our view one of the most picturesque sea sides in Britain. Not too much commercialism. A good walk up Jacobs Ladder, the gardens are great for the horticulturalists. The beach is a mix of shingle and sand. There is plenty of beach to wander up and down, and you can get away from crowded areas which are more to the town.

By the seaside town of the same name, Sidmouth Beach is a long stretch of pebbles that stretches from the River Sid at the east of the town, West to Chit Rocks and Jacobs Ladder Beach and beyond. From the town you go over a footbridge and a number of steps down to the beach, however there are also access points along the sea front esplanade. There are a number of car parks close by, most of which are a few minutes’ walk from the beach itself, and it benefits from nearby facilities, cafes, restaurants and shops. Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1st May to the 30th September, however there is a small area at the East end of the beach where dogs are allowed all year round. It’s a delightful spot for swimming sailing and surfing if the weather permits it, but you do have to take your own equipment.

Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis

Named after the Duke of Monmouth who landed here in 1685 in an attempt to take the crown from King James II, Monmouth Beach is a large pebble and sand beach that stretches over a kilometer southwest from the Cobb wall. There are beach huts, a bowling green, the Lyme Regis Power Boat Club and paid car parks close by. Meanwhile, for those wishing to have their own exploratory adventures, you can find a layer of limestone called the ammonite graveyard at Monmouth Beach, containing a large number of (you guessed it) ammonites. There are numerous walks close by and dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. There is lifeguard cover in the summer, and all the town’s cafés, restaurants and amenities are within easy reach.
A very lovely beach if you like stones! But great when the tide is right out and you can fossil hunting.

We had a lovely holiday staying in the little sea house. Perfect location on the beach. Was very warm & cosy inside. Was generally clean on arrival but think it could do a intensive deep clean occasionally to clean racks /hard to reach places ( plug holes) but this did not effect our stay ( I’m just bit OCD with cleaning) I would recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing tranquil break. Also the out hours staff from toadhall cottages were very helpful. Would book again

Lovely food and staff. However no meals served to anyone on evening who were not staying at pub. Made to feel very unwelcome when you are told if not resident you cannot have food. A board outside explaining lack of staff means they cannot accommodate passing trade for meals would have saved embarrassment and feeling very unwelcome. People were turning up expecting food only to be turned away when there is nowhere else on a monday in particular in branscome to eat on the evening. Some very irate people which could have been avoided if a board was left outside explaining no meals on evenings so that people could have organised something else if they had known. Stumbled across this gorgeous pub after spending the day on Branscombe Beach. What a find! My husband had Hake as main course and I chose a chicken starter with portions of new potatoes and stem brocoli with almonds for my main. Both meals were delicious. We were very lucky to be served food as about 15 mins after we got there, which was about 6pm they were only allowing walk ins to have drinks so maybe worth booking as we get further into the summer. Well worth a visit

Like an underground cathedral, the Beer Stone Caves are awe-inspiring caves with mighty halls of vaulted roofs and pillars. The likely source of the stone for many of the cathedrals, buildings and monuments you have visited throughout the UK, the vast man-made complex of underground caverns was created by centuries of quarrying, and now you can take a guided tour to find out more about their history. The entrance leads directly into the Roman section, which now houses a small museum containing pieces of Beer stone carved centuries ago by skilled masons, the tools used by the Quarrymen and copies of ancient documents and photographs. A wonderful place for a family to visit. We loved it all from the playground, crazy golf, beautiful gardens, train rides and model trains. I didn’t expect our visit to last all day, but there was so much to see that it did.

Seaton Labyrinth

To celebrate Seaton’s 1000th anniversary in 2O05, the Axmouth Spiral Centre constructed a Labyrinth in the cliff field above the West Walk. A 60ft diameter spiral, the walk, which measures 453 yards from start to centre, connects with the way in which the 95-mile coastline reveals 185 million years of evolution. It has an eleven-circuit form based on a combination of designs, the labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France and the one at Saffron Waldron in Suffolk, and as you wander along the artistic installation, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding scenery as well.
The Buzzard Cycle Route

Cycling in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a wonderful way to get outside and explore the area. With miles of National Cycle Network across it, it’s also a comparatively easy way for cyclists to explore safely and really get to see the remarkable landscape that the area has to offer. With plenty of rural pubs, riverside taverns and tea shops along the routes to sit and enjoy, it’s a great day out for the while family. The Buzzard Cycle Route in particular (otherwise known as Sustrans regional route number 52) is a firm favourite amongst cyclists in the area, and is an opportunity to explore glorious East Devon on a regional 80-mile circular route around Sidmouth, Seaton, Axminster, Honiton and Woodbury. Some of the route follows the National Cycle Network Route 2 along the south coast of Devon.
Branscombe Beach

Nestled into a valley that reaches down to the sea, Branscombe Beach is tucked away on the Jurassic Coast, and is linked to a timeless, magical village of the same name. Surrounded by woodland and farmland, the area is peppered with thatched houses, a working forge and a restored windmill. It’s a National Trust location, with a number of charming walks and trails to follow, one of which leads to the Old Bakery tearooms. The beach itself was a long pebble beach until the winter of 2022 when storms rearranged the pebbles and is now a long sandy beach. It has a large car park close by where there are toilets available, as well as a picnic area. The beach is a haven for walking, relaxing and adventurous rock-poolers. If you want to catch your supper it’s a wonderful place to fish for mackerel and pollock, although the Beach Shanty Cafe on Branscombe Beach provides excellent local food.
Lovely place for a dog walk along the beach. Such a pity that the sea is eroding the cliffs around here.

A small pebble beach in East Devon, Beer Beach is in a picturesque fishing village that hugs the shoreline. Parking is a little distance away from the beach itself, which is accessed via a sloping road and steps at the east end. There’s one large car park that’s around five minutes away on foot, and another smaller one in the centre of the town. As the beach is such an integral part of the town itself, there are cafes and shops close by, simply by dint of its location. There are toilets above the beach, so it’s got all the makings of a charming day out for the family in the summer, or somewhere to stroll and have a cup of tea if it’s a bit cooler. There aren’t any organized activities on the beach, so if you’re bringing the kids then keep that in mind. Dogs are not allowed on the West part of the beach from 1st May to 30th September.

Seaton Beach is a mile long shingle beach overlooking Lyme Bay in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of East Devon. The gently sloping pebbles make this an ideal place to take a dip or try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking or stand up paddle boarding with equipment easily hired on site.
An esplanade links Seaton town at one end of the beach and the popular Seaton Beach Café at the other. The South West Coast Path runs alongside the beach and a walk to the nearby picturesque village of Beer is a real treat. Dogs are welcome all year.

In our view one of the most picturesque sea sides in Britain. Not too much commercialism. A good walk up Jacobs Ladder, the gardens are great for the horticulturalists. The beach is a mix of shingle and sand. There is plenty of beach to wander up and down, and you can get away from crowded areas which are more to the town.

Named after the Duke of Monmouth who landed here in 1685 in an attempt to take the crown from King James II, Monmouth Beach is a large pebble and sand beach that stretches over a kilometer southwest from the Cobb wall. There are beach huts, a bowling green, the Lyme Regis Power Boat Club and paid car parks close by. Meanwhile, for those wishing to have their own exploratory adventures, you can find a layer of limestone called the ammonite graveyard at Monmouth Beach, containing a large number of (you guessed it) ammonites. There are numerous walks close by and dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. There is lifeguard cover in the summer, and all the town’s cafés, restaurants and amenities are within easy reach.
A very lovely beach if you like stones! But great when the tide is right out and you can fossil hunting.

My dog Luna and I really enjoy walking and playing ball along the beach keeping eyes down to see if we can find a fossil!!! very clean and looked after Love it!!!

Stayed here in The Little Sea House right on the beach. Amazing sunrises. Beautiful and peaceful but tricky to walk on in places.

We had a lovely holiday staying in the little sea house. Perfect location on the beach. Was very warm & cosy inside. Was generally clean on arrival but think it could do a intensive deep clean occasionally to clean racks /hard to reach places ( plug holes) but this did not effect our stay ( I’m just bit OCD with cleaning) I would recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing tranquil break. Also the out hours staff from toadhall cottages were very helpful. Would book again
