July 2017
We have returned from a weeks holiday at Nelsons cottage in Looe. A lovely cottage and well equipped and very nicely furnished. I had a small accident whilst there which ended up having a sprained ankle, and Val (owner)was so helpful. She gave me a wheelchair and a stick, and ice packs, she also text me a couple of times to ask how I was. She even came to see me the day before we were to leave. I would would certainly stay again. If I were to have one small criticism it would be to replace the lace curtain that's damaged in the twin room, and a couple of black rubbish sacks for the bin. But that is a small thing compered to the large heart of Val. Thank you.

Looe Museum
(Less than a mile)
(4)
Owned by the East Loose Town Trust, the Looe Museum is managed by a small community of volunteers, and gives a delightful insight into the history and character of the area. It’s an opportunity to develop your knowledge of the town and locality whether you’re a first time visitor or frequent tourist. They frequently house new exhibitions and take part in local events, acting as a supportive part of the community. In 2016 they celebrated the 150th anniversary of the lifeboats in Looe for example, by loaning some of its objects to the RNLI for a dedicated exhibition. Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for children, and £4.50 for families.
Very interesting and a friendly welcome. Lovely historic building
July 2021
Small museum but full of interesting artefacts. Well worth the £2 entry fee!
June 2018
Amazingly well-stocked, charming little museum, with efforts clearly made to interest both young and old. You can return as much as you like (for several months) on one ticket ... and to absorb all the information available, you may need to.
May 2018
The kids loved this compact museum especially the lady in the prison! We kept our tickets as you can return for free and they did, twice!! ????????

Looe Valley Railway Line
(Less than a mile)
(9)
Linking the bustling market town of Liskeard and the picturesque fishing port of Looe, the Looe Valley Railway Line takes you on a journey through an abundance of landscapes from heavily wooded valleys teaming with wildlife to glorious estuary views as the river meets the sea. See the river full of wading birds such as Litte egrets, Grey herons, Oystercatchers and Curlews, before stopping in Looe to explore the beaches, restaurants, shops and pubs. Take a peek at their online journey planner for prices and timetables. Dogs go free (up to two dogs per person).
beautiful line but service not very frequent
August 2022
Brilliant little railway journey. Lovely oldie Worldie station. Beautiful scenery.
July 2022
Easy to book .The train rise itself is OK but mainly through woodland so not much too see apart from trees. The walk from the train station to the town is abit of a walk about 15 minutes .The town its self is ok but seems to be for older people ie the shops are very old fashioned. Personally we would not visit again .
July 2021
Totally brilliant. Loved it
July 2021
Delightful branch line, frequent + reliable service, lovely views of estuary, woodland, bluebells ?!
June 2021
Enjoyed our train ride, but was disappointed in Liskeard, got the next train back.
September 2020
we got a group saver ticket and was very happy with the price, but unfortunately our train was due to leave at 11:10. we were sitting on the train waiting and at approximately 11:40 the driver came from his cab and apologised that the loud speakers were not working and that the train was cancelled, so we had to wait until 12:22 on a very warm train.
September 2019
Lovely little train ride alive the river, worth while. Recommend travelling to Lisgard and getting a return to Looe, much cheaper to park that way!
June 2018
a lovely short train ride through lovely scenery. Liskeard was an interesting little town to potter in for two or three hours
May 2018
The Monkey Sanctuary
(2 miles)
(1)
Not perhaps what you might expect to find in Cornwall, The Monkey Sanctuary is a delightful opportunity to learn about its 36 inhabitants, all of whom have distinct characters and personalities. An active rescue centre dealing with individuals that have often not had a very happy start to life, the priority is always their wellbeing, but it’s also an opportunity for guests to meet them and learn about the organization, explore the gardens and cultivated meadows, shop or relax in the café. There’s also a play area for children, with views of the Cornish coast. The sanctuary is closed on Fridays, but otherwise open from March to September (dates vary from year to year, so keep an eye on the website). Prices start at £8.50 per adult and £5 for children, which entitles you to entry for a whole year.
Great place they do a lot of good work for the monkeys! It’s just sad to hear some of the stories of how they were kept!
June 2018
Looe Beach
(Less than a mile)
(20)
In East Looe, the beach sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered by the Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat. A good family beach that has something for everyone, at low tide the sandy location is safe for swimming although it’s recommended you steer clear of the river mouth beyond the pier. Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, but Hannafore beach in West Looe is dog friendly. The beach backs on to a seafront walkway which runs its length all the way to Second Beach to the east, where it tends to be less busy and it’s good for snorkeling. As it’s in the centre of the town there are lots of facilities and cafes nearby, but in the summer it’s a very popular spot and parking can be tricky, with traffic prohibited during these months, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.
Some days quite busy but great facilities and loads of activities
August 2023
Great, despite the early season seaweed, the tractor cleared it very well.
April 2023
LOVE LOVE LOVE
July 2022
All of the beaches around Looe are worth visiting - and the coastal path is a must. Fuel for the hike? Not listed in the reviews is Sarah’s Pasties which has the best pasties (we ate a lot of pasties during the week!). They were also one of the few eateries in the area which could provide something for someone needing a gluten and dairy free diet. We were able to preorder pasties that met her dietary requirements.
February 2022
Wonderful beach
December 2021
Safe and sandy beach perfect for kids
August 2021
I enjoyed the beach as it is very flat, which is important at 70, and I even had a paddle. The beach was very clean.
July 2021
One of the best beaches I have visited. It is nice and level and I was even able to have a paddle. It was very clean.
July 2021
Great beach so close all amenities
July 2021
Such a lovely beach. A shame people didn’t socially distance or even attempt to do so.
August 2020
Spent a week at new year in this beautiful apartment. Everything you could possibly need was in there. Lovely comfy bed, spotless clean and the bonus of a sea view. Central for everything. Will definitely return.
January 2020
Wonderful clean beach
October 2019
Perfect for the children but beware of seagulls. We always take a beach tent so children can safely enjoy their food and ice cream!
June 2019
Lovely beach suitable for everyone
June 2019
A wonderful place to sit relax eat an ICECREAM or a pastie, if the seagulls will let you! Perfect beach x
August 2018
You cannot fail to love Looe beach, early morning, during the day or for and evening stroll. A super clean beach.
May 2018
Lovely sandy beach. No dogs allowed but there is a small cove at the far end which allows dogs to enjoy their holiday too with a dip in The English Channel.
May 2018
Looe beach and seafront is cleaned every day (in season?) and looks good. A joy to sit and watch the sea and people passing by.
April 2018
Really good! Good sand and sea. Activities for the kids too. Difficult to get to cos no parking nearby.
August 2017
Lovely beach and even when it was busy didn't feel overcrowded
August 2017
Hannafore Beach
(Less than a mile)
(9)
Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island. At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position. Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby. It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay. There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space. Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.
Splendid views and dog accessible
July 2022
The best place to unwind
August 2020
Great for rock pooling
August 2020

Great beach. Good view of looe island. Loads of shells to collect. Lots of dog walkers tho!
August 2017
One of the many dog friendly beaches we visited lovely coastal walks to Talland Bay the nature reserve island is very interesting great refreshments available and not forgetting the free parking available all day which is very useful.
June 2017
Plaidy Beach
(Less than a mile)
(1)
A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery. There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot. There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions. Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.
Great to walk to at low tide on the beach or at high tide via the footpath. Great dog friendly beach.
August 2018
Millendreath Beach
(Less than a mile)
(1)
Millendreath Beach is a south facing beach at the foot of a wooded valley, in a sheltered cove with soft sand and lots of rock pools to explore at low tide. It’s connected to other nearby beaches by the South West Coast Path. Dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, and there is a reasonably sized car park a few minutes walk away. The beach is popular with families on holiday in Cornwall, and most of the surrounding area is occupied by a holiday park, so there are lot of facilities open to the public.
Fantastic beach with wonderful water sports facilities available, loved the sea kayaks!
July 2022
Talland Bay
(3 miles)
(16)
A small, quiet beach between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay actually comprises two beaches, one of which has sand both at low and high tide and is good for swimming all the time, while the other is less sandy and is easiest to swim from at high tide. There is a ramp for launching boats from the main beach and there are lots of small coves and tidal pools to swim in as well, so it’s a delightful area to explore in the water. Parking is limited, but there is a small, free car park by the beach and paid parking at The Beach Café, all of which provide easy access to the sand. Thanks to the nearby café, visitors can also benefit from the accompanying facilities, on-site shop, and tuck into Roskillys Cornish Ice-Cream as well.
Sit in the graveyard on the bill and look down to Talland bay. Tranquillity so special. I never fail to go there when I am down. The church is beautiful so much history.
October 2023
Having spent many a happy childhood holiday here - 60 years ago, so wonderful to return. It is so beautiful and with addition of 2 Beach cafes - even better now.
June 2023
Beautiful little bay with a great cafe overlooking it. Dogs allowed on the beach Oct to end of May.....
October 2021
Although there was indeed sand in one of the bays it was largely covered with seaweed at the water's edge when we were there. All very natural.
October 2021
Lovely bay, shingle beach
September 2021
Not a great beach and a bit smelly.
August 2021
Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach made it very smelly and also lots of flies. Beautiful apart from that!
June 2021
Lovely walk from polperro along coast. Cafe in picturesque bay pretty with little huts to shelter. Only downside was the coffee not good at all.
May 2021
Beautiful bay. A little smelly from the seaweed but rock pools galore and quiet
October 2020
Very interesting beach with rock pools at low tide and fascinating multi-coloured rocks, great for photography.
October 2019
A lovely place to walk too on the way to Looe. Hard work back up the hill to polperro, bit it's worth it!
October 2018
The coastal walk from Polperro to Talland Bay is outstanding. As both are scenic, (and Talland Bay benefits from an excellent cafe and free toilets), it makes for an excellent morning or afternoon trip in good weather.
May 2018
Lovely beach, beautiful walk from Polperro. Dogs requested to be kept on leads (which I suppose is preferable to a ban!). Families seem to use this beach alot.
May 2018
An interesting beach at low tide and lovely views.
April 2018
Brilliant. Bit seaweedy. Wear beach shoes incase of weever fish stings.
August 2017
Great beach pet friendly beach with rock pools etc for the dogs to explore
June 2017
July 2023
loved my stay.Exellent as near the quay, beach and for walks. The communal area was being decorated and the disruption was kept to a minimum and the gentleman was polite and courteous.
Great to here you enjoyed your stay and found the location to be ideal. Hopefully welcome you back soon.
- The Toad Hall Team
June 2023
We found the apartment was lovely to stay in , very homely, well equipped and so close to the beach, harbour, shops and pubs/restaurants. We enjoyed the local walks too. We had a great week and will definitely be returning to Looe and would stay at the apartment again.
August 2022
Excellent location Lots of bird poo on all the outside window sills did let it down slightly Couldn’t work the DVD player to connect with tv maybe more instructions would help
Thank you for your feedback; there is a regular window cleaner for the building but due to its riverside location, seagulls can cause a mess unfortunately. We will look at at adding DVD instructions here.

We actually enjoyed our stay (obviously we had major issues on the 2nd week what with the works, but I would never hold that against you as you reacted instantly and gave us options (thanks once again) However, we wouldn't stay in that particular property again for a couple of reasons. The lack of bedroom space (trust me, we've redesigned it in our heads and it could work :-) ) The need for a extractor But more importantly - as it was in a residential block (which we didn't realise). Whilst we are well behaved adults, I was aware that there were people around me probably going to work, who I didn't want to disturb. And quite a bit of noise from above - can't complain, it was people just get on with their lives - and something you would no doubt get used to if you lived there. I would however have no problem using you again, and recommending you to friends and family. No point in us recommending one pub/eatery area - as everything is lovely.
September 2021
We enjoyed it very much!
July 2021
Very nice stay thanks.
January 2021
Really was a great stay at good apartment in a place we love
November 2020
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hope to return shortly.
October 2020
Clearer directions needed to find apartment and the key safe which is in fact to the left and round the corner of the other ones and by the bottom of the drain pipe. Also I do think you should make clear that parking for the apt is a good 15 minute walk away which is a big deal if you can't unload nearby.
September 2020
Really enjoyed our stay and the service from Toadhall Cottages was excellent. Will happily book through you again and recommend to others
September 2020
My wife and I had a great week, the weather was excellent, the accommodation was on the whole very good. Looe is probably our favourite holiday destination in the UK so we were very disappointed to witness, despite the town council’s efforts with “keep left” and “social distance” signs painted on the floor and mounted on lamp posts and other street furniture, people totally ignoring directions and advice, this made us very wary when we were out and about.
September 2020
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Buller House. The location is perfect to explore Looe. The apartment itself is modern and comfortable. Was very clean when we arrived and well equipped.
January 2020
We have always enjoyed our stay in this apartment and will hopefully book again for the summer, if there is availability
January 2020
Superb week saw in the new year. Excellent location with the benefit of a sea view. Thanks again Toad Hall.
November 2019
Fantastic location and ideal for a couples getaway
July 2019
Yes its a nice apartment in a great location
September 2018
Loved this property and the central location was perfect
September 2018
Loved this property will definitely book it again
May 2018
We really did enjoy our stay, the location of the apartment was perfect. We would like to thank the owner for letting his property and to say how homely it felt. Everything about it was perfect and we didn't want to leave. We are hoping to be able to return again later in the year.
January 2018
Lovely apartment in a great location. Furnishings to a very high standard Will definitely be using again.
August 2017
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will definitely book with toadhall again! The apartment was very modernised and was a very comforting place to live in.
July 2017
Ideal location & a lovely apartment. Would definitely re book.
June 2017
The apartment itself was lovely and clean and very well equipped. Nice and close to the harbour, restaurants and shops. We enjoyed our stay very much but as this is our second visit to Looe we don't intend returning, however we would be interested in any apartments you may have in Lyme Regis. Our daughter lives in Chard Somerset so we regularly holiday in Lyme.
August 2015
Great property. Great holiday. Would definitely use Toad Hall Cottages again!
July 2015
We did have a small problem with the information received by post regarding the key pick up. In the written documentation it stated that the keys would be sent by post five days before our arrival however, when I chased this up via phone I was told that the keys were actually available in a small lock box at the accommodation location. This was not a problem but when I called I was asked 'Did you not read your letter?' which was sent in not the kindest tone. Just a small thing really.
September 2014
we were very impressed with the details and little touches.
July 2014
The accommodation was everything we wanted, clean, cosy, and as it said on the brochure. If I was being ultra picky, the entrance hall/shared stairs light would not work when the switch was pressed whilst leaving the apartment which was not a problem for ourselves, but it was very dark, and it was quite noisy on occasions throughout the week (not that Toad Hall were responsible for that). Overall we had a lovely holiday. Thank you.
July 2023
loved my stay.Exellent as near the quay, beach and for walks. The communal area was being decorated and the disruption was kept to a minimum and the gentleman was polite and courteous.
Great to here you enjoyed your stay and found the location to be ideal. Hopefully welcome you back soon.

February 2018
We visited a couple of times. Once for drinks on the quay - perfect view and great service. We also had tapas, which were amazing. Very tasty & reasonably priced. The owners were very friendly & welcoming.
Thank you.

The Sardine Factory is a great spot to make the most of local cuisine, whether you’re visiting for breakfast, a light lunch, a family dinner or a romantic night out. This was the first time we'd eaten at the Sardine Factory - Four of us for an evening meal. There was ample room between tables, food was delicious - we had starters, mains and yes some of the group had puddings too. The staff were very friendly and had a great sense of humour. We would return.
October 2020
Best restaurant we visited during our stay in Looe, staff were so friendly, you can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen and the fish was better than excellent. Location may put you off but it would be to your loss, most definitely worth the walk over to the west side.
July 2020
We made a booking and have to say, the food and service was excellent. Price was pretty good in comparison, but the location is what added to the occasion. First class.

Talland Bay
(3 miles)
