Rainbow End, one of three perfectly converted barns, is nestled in the hillside, overlooking Porthallow. This cosy cottage, part of old Pengarrock Farm which dates back to the 1200s is all on one level and accessed up a few stone steps and combines traditional features, such as polished granite and whitewashed walls with all the necessary modern-day requirements. There’s a comfortable lounge, a relaxing double bedroom and modern kitchen and bathroom with a large, communal garden with views of the countryside down to Porthallow Cove midway  point on the South-West Coastal Path with miles of beautiful cliffside walks..

Porthallow, meaning ‘Port at the end of the Moor’,  is a small, tucked-away village on the east coast of the Lizard Peninsula. It was once a busy pilchard fishing port in fact, the old pilchard cellars can still be seen near the pebbly beach. Visit the Five Pilchards Inn, full of nautical memorabilia,  just off the beach.  A mile offshore is the Manacles Reef, a rocky outcrop, and the cause of countless historical shipwrecks. It’s a popular site for diving, accessed from the neighbouring Porthkerris Cove, where you can hire the gear, or book a boat trip to snorkel with the basking sharks. Nearby St Keverne has a handful of shops, two inns and a cluster of whitewashed cottages, all huddled around the village square, and overlooked by the impressive 15th Century church, St Akervnus.

Please Note: Rainbow End can be booked in conjunction with Rainbow Cottage and Cove View, providing accommodation for 10. Please follow this link to view.  Rainbow Cottage  Cove View

Greatfriendly service

Friendly and helpful. We had a beach mooring for the week but sadly couldn’t use the boat every day because of poor weather.

September 2023

The men who ran the Ferry were very friendly and helpful.

Too expensive to use the ferry. Adds £36 for 4 to go for a meal at the Shipwrights or coffee at Holy Mackeral. Sorry for those two businesses

Porthallow Beach
(Less than a mile)

(6)

A small sheltered pebble beach with lovely views where fishermen used to launch their boats in their hundreds. Today there are still a few working fishing boats pulled up on the shore and the unspoilt village has a popular pub, aptly named The Five Pilchards. Car parking literally on the beach so not far to carry all the kit, lots of rockpools exposed at low tide and great snorkeling just offshore.

September 2023

A very quiet beach. Great coastal walks with stunning views over the sea.

May 2023

Gorgeous beach and easy to get to the sea. Shale and rock beach but enough space for kids to enjoy themselves

August 2022

lovely quite pebble beach, pub right on the beach with public toilets

June 2021

A lovely sheltered beach of rocks and pebbles so no good for sandcastles etc. We visited regularly after 7 pm and not during the day and it was almost always deserted (Spring bank holiday week) Great to just watch the waves roll in and soak up the ambience.

June 2021

Beautiful but not much going on.

July 2019

Godrevy Cove & Leggan Cove
(2 miles)

Godrevy Cove is a lovely sandy beach over 300m in length and unlike other beaches in the area, there is still plenty of sand at high water.  Access is via the Coast Path but it’s not a difficult walk, only about 500m from the hamlet of Rosenithon where you can leave the car on the road. There’s good swimming and snorkelling here, as well as rock pools at low tide and the beach is never crowded. You can also access next door Leggan Cove across the foreshore at low water, a similar but smaller and more sheltered beach.

Bosahan Cove
(3 miles)

This is a real gem but quite tricky to access, so it’s not for everyone. Almost hidden on the southern banks of the Helford River, this idyllic sand and shingle cove is surrounded by thick woodland and is a fantastic spot to swim or sunbathe, often without another soul in sight. To get there either cut through the gardens of the Bosahan estate (summer months only, admission charges apply), bring a small boat or walk about a mile along the coast path from Helford Village. No amenities due to its location, dogs allowed all year round.

Love.y beach, steep steps

September 2023

Absolutely beautiful and locals very friendly, only downfall drinks pricey.

July 2019

Grebe Beach
(3 miles)

(1)

A quiet and secluded shingle beach on the Helford River in between the villages of Durgan and Mawnan. Access is via a short woodland walk from Durgan and then a steep path down to the beach, which means it’s rarely crowded and ideal if you prefer peace and quiet to cafes and facilities, of which there are none. The water is safe for swimming here and there are rocky outcrops to explore and jump off. It’s worth bearing in mind though that while there is a large beach at low water, with the highest tides it’s completely covered. Dogs welcome all year round.

August 2022

Excellent stay - cottage very clean and well equipped. Gardens and other facilities superb. Extra £5 for towels seemed unusual. Would highly recommend. Location is a little remote and car access is via some very narrow roads. A steep hill to walk down to the beach and 5 Pilchards pub, but well worth it. Coastal path a great walk.

Wonderful! We agree - Rainbow End is the perfect spot for getting away from it all!

Totally enjoyed our holiday and would return again. Thank you

Enjoyable stay, good location. Plenty of storage space for clothes and food. Good range of kitchen equipment and access to wifi which worked well. Use of garden which was a pleasure to relax in. Area was quiet and peaceful. Directions to the property were the best we have ever had. We both suffer from bad backs so bed and sofa not ideal for us but would be fine for normal people.

We're so pleased you had a great stay at Rainbow End. It's so peaceful there - a perfect place to relax!

May 2021

This place was spotless on arrival. Big thanks to all who look after this cottage. We would like to return perhaps next year we had a really good week despite some rough weather. Not clear where to leave general rubbish so left in green dustbin. Thanks again nice one

Nice place but access to property very steep. Not a problem for us but might put some people off.

Thank you taking the time to leave feedback. The hill to Porthallow Cove is steep - thank goodness there's a car park on the beach! Glad you enjoyed your stay, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Cornwall in the future!

September 2019

A lovely cottage in an ideal location to explore the Lizard Peninsula and area. We met the owner on arriving as we were earlier than planned and he gave us a lot of tips and recommendations for the area. So we visited a lot of places that may have been overlooked without his suggestions. Excellent decor and specification throughout and clear that it was well thought out when being done. There was a family in the cottage below and we never heard them at all so a big plus to the soundproofing as well. Loved the area and the cottage and look forward to returning again in the future and would look at this as our first and preferred choice.

Fantastic! David is friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local area. So please you enjoyed your time ar Rainbow End. We'd love to welcome you back!

February 2019

16th July 2018 - This was our 10th visit to Cornwall over the last 35 years and "Rainbow End" was the best cottage we have ever had! There's no need to repeat the positive reviews that have already been submitted as we fully agree with them all and, of course, give "Rainbow End" 5 stars. Instead we would like to emphasize the warm welcome we were given by the White family, the tasteful decoration of the cottage, with matching colours of curtains, bedclothes and furniture and with prints of pictures from Newlyn School. Furthermore, its position serves as an excellent base for walks on the South West Coast Path.

February 2019

3rd October 2017 - A lovely well maintained cosy cottage with plenty of period features. Quiet location, we rarely saw any cars passing by.
