Callington is a small 15th century market town between the rivers Tamar and Lynher and was once the gateway to one of the richest copper mining districts in the world. Today the town is home to an interesting mural trail featuring large paintings on walls and buildings depicting Callington’s past, present and future.

Home to the famous Ginster Pasties, Callington boasts a few interesting shops, popular restaurants and cosy pubs. Sat between the rugged moors of Bodmin and Dartmoor, the town is just a short drive away from Tavistock, a wonderful town with lots of independent shops, pannier market and weekly farmers market.

There are plenty of wild walking opportunities on nearby Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor, whilst Kit Hill Country Park, the highest point in the Tamar Valley with over 400 acres of natural heathland  to explore and an abundance of birds and wildlife to see, is only a couple of miles away.

For those who enjoy an active holiday, nearby Tavistock is home to Tree Surfers, featuring extensive tree top ropes, zip wires and woodland trails to challenge the whole family, as well as The Barn indoor climbing wall.

As for beaches, Callington is located inland, however, in Cornwall you are never too far from a beach. The traditional fishing town of Looe, with its family-friendly beaches, is less than 30 minutes away by car, whilst the popular fishing village of Polperro and the stunning Talland Bay and Whitsand Bay, both of which are dog-friendly beaches and excellent for rock pooling, are also close by.

A holiday cottage in Callington provides a great base for exploring the nearby moors and market towns, offering everything you need for an active holiday within easy reach.

Seaton Beach - Cornwall
(12 miles)

(9)

A spacious, grey sand beach that’s popular with families, Seaton Beach enjoys views across the green, surrounding countryside and walks in Seaton Valley nearby. At low tide the beach stretches all the way from Seaton Beach to Downderry Beach.  There are facilities close by and there is are two car parks as well as road parking, but it does get busy quickly in the summer.  The beach is great for surfing, but do be wary of undercurrents.  There’s also a café and beach shop close by as well.  Dogs are welcome at the beach all year round.

Whitsand Bay
(13 miles)

A 3 mile stretch of perfect sand located between Rame Head and Portwrinkle, this is possibly one of the best beaches in this part of Cornwall. It is worth noting though that there are dangerous rip currents, and although there is lifeguard cover May-September, swimming here can be dangerous.  Access to the beach is via steep cliff paths, unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushcharis from car parks at either end. The easiest access is from the car park near Tregantle Fort leading to Long Sands beach. The other car park is located near Sharrow Point and leads down to Freathy and Tregonhawke Beach.  Dog allowed all year round.

Millendreath Beach
(13 miles)

(1)

Millendreath Beach is a south facing beach at the foot of a wooded valley, in a sheltered cove with soft sand and lots of rock pools to explore at low tide.  It’s connected to other nearby beaches by the South West Coast Path.  Dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, and there is a reasonably sized car park a few minutes walk away.  The beach is popular with families on holiday in Cornwall, and most of the surrounding area is occupied by a holiday park, so there are lot of facilities open to the public.

Fantastic beach with wonderful water sports facilities available, loved the sea kayaks!

July 2022

Plaidy Beach
(13 miles)

(1)

A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery.  There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot.  There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions.  Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.

Excellent property with friendly hosts. We had a very lovely stay.

August 2020

It was spotless and so well equipped. Lovely garden and view of Kit Hill.

July 2020

Our only problem was accessing the Toad Hall vouchers. The cottage owners knew nothing about them, and the gardens (Pinetum Gardens,St Austell) we visited denied all knowledge too. We contacted Toad Hall and received excellent response from them, and now await our refund.

February 2020

My brother and I had a wonderfull stay at meadow view as visiting family, it was my second visit there and my two spaniels loved running around in the paddock. I will be visiting again very soon. We went for a couple of drinks to the Swindletree pub which is pet friendly. Also the people in there were very chatty. Loverly hosts and dog treats left for dogs and biscuits and milk left for us.

July 2017

Yes. A spacious dog friendly bungalow with helpful hosts. Well situated for exploring the local area.

June 2017

We would recommend Toad Hall cottages for this area to our friends, and we would book with you next time probably a coastal location.

June 2017

Property was absolutely excellent, one of the best we have ever stayed in. Everything was pristinely clean and the beds were really comfortable. Both my Mum and I have bad backs and need a softer bed and usually find most beds much too hard and end up not sleeping due to pain, in fact we usually bring our own blankets so that we can fold the duvets up and use them for extra padding! however, the beds in Meadow View Cottage were extremely comfortable and both Mum and I managed to sleep really well throughout the holiday, which was so wonderful! David and Yvonne really thought of everything when they fitted out this beautiful cottage and there was nothing we could think of that would need improvement. Just perfect!

May 2017

We had a very enjoyable stay. We were made to feel very welcome and the property was outstanding. Very well equipped with all the finishing touches you wouldn't expect from a holiday home. I would definitely recommend Meadow View.

May 2017

The accommodation was extremely good, and apart from the access road being unmade and a bit bumpy, the location was lovely. The owners Roger and Yvonne were extremely helpful. Although the weather was mixed there is so much to do in the area it did not matter. Would definitely recommend, it often difficult to find such excellent accommodation were you can take your pet. 10/10

May 2017

lovely week, despite not the kindest weather, in nicely appointed property. Two single beds joined to make a king size, both bedrooms have en-suite with shower cubicle (no bath if that's important to you) with good water pressure, lots of storage, nice large lounge down three steps with dvd library, good space for all the bits that come with two dogs in two utility areas adjoining the kitchen with dining table for 4, dishwasher, fridge, wm, tumble and freezer in decent kitted out kitchen, plus lockable door to rear outside space secure for all but most bouncy or escape artist dogs and a decent patio with table and chairs. Rear door means there are two different ways in and therefore keys for two parties to leave/return at diff times. Hall and kitchen are tiled, so we left the dogs to roam that space at night. There was even a disposable bbq if only the weather had co-operated. Hosts pleasant in greeting but left us to it and had even left out dog towels and treat! Recommended

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay! The owners of Meadow View care for it very well indeed, and will be pleased to receive your comments. We will mention the noisy pump to them when we pass on your review.

- The Toad Hall Team

September 2016

A delightful bungalow, very clean and with all of the necessities of modern life including TV, Blu-Ray/DVD player, dishwasher, washing machine

May 2016

Meadow View is a superb cottage - cannot speak highly enough of it - one of the best, if not, the best we have been to. We would gladly recommend it to anybody and would be very happy to go there again. It was indeed a bargain at the price.

October 2015

Meadow Views location was very good for us, because all the places we wanted to visit, we were able to access them from Callington.

August 2015

We had a lovely stay in cornwall. The owners of the property were very helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend anyone to stay there. Well worth the visit.

July 2015

Beautiful bungalow, with all mod cons. The owners have provided you with anything and everything you might need, a proper 'home from home'. We almost wished for a rainy day so we could stay in! Our party consisted of two adults and two children, the bungalow provides more than adequate space, with lovely eating areas in the kitchen and outside (with stunning views). The bungalow is situated in an ideal location for exploring both the north and south coasts of Cornwall, and is surrounded with lovely places to visit. We all felt sad to leave and will definitely visit again in the future.

July 2015

After travelling across the country from Suffolk we were delighted to find such a beautiful accommodation. Decorated and furnished throughout to a very high standard, the bungalow is comfortable and equipped with everything you can think of, including all kitchen essentials, flatscreen smart TV and great WiFi. The owners are charming and helpful without being in any way obtrusive. A great base from which to explore this part of Cornwall, with truly stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and fishing villages. A fantastic holiday - we would definitely visit again and highly recommend the property.

May 2015

We were lucky enough to stay at Meadow View last week after having an unfortunate start at another cottage and transferring here after just a day. The setting is truly idyllic... well away from any main roads, and with beautiful views over to nearby "Kit Hill". Upon arrival we received an extremely warm welcome from the owners and were then shown around the property, which is decorated and furnished to an outstanding level. Everything from fresh towels and toilet rolls, to all the kitchen mod cons we could possibly have required were all provided. A particularly nice touch was the little dog food mats and the treats that were also left out for our arrival. There was also a fab big screen smart TV on the wall, as well as games and dvd's, so plenty to do on a rainy day indoors. After an initial hiccup with the wifi connection, we generally had good coverage for the rest of the week, and I know that the owners are looking to improve on this further. We had some unfortunate personal circumstances befall us earlier in the week and were so grateful for the help and support we received from the owners that day. It made it all the more bearable that we had such a wonderful place to stay. It is obvious that the owners are serious about making this place one of the best available in the area. It is certainly a place that we will be returning to and would recommend to anyone without hesitation. Many thanks, from Edan and Laura
