The bustling town of Looe is divided by the ever-changing river that separates quieter West Looe from the absorbing waterfront of East Looe, with its diversity of shops, restaurants and pubs, Banjo pier and sandy beach.

The pace and routine of life in Looe follows the ebb and flow of the tide and the movement of boats returning with their catch of fresh fish. Local boatman can ferry visitors to and from either quay, or alternatively, you can enjoy a pleasant cruise along the beautiful and rugged coastline, keeping an eye out for the schools of dolphins that can often be spotted in the bay.

A guided tour will draw you deeper into the labyrinth of ancient buildings, clustered together in the narrow streets and courtyards that make up the old town of East Looe. Visit the 16th century Old Guildhall museum with its interesting exhibits detailing the town's diverse history, or relax and just while away the hours on the wonderful sandy beach, separated from the river mouth by the Banjo Pier.

The South East Cornish coastline is dotted with lovely beaches, hidden coves, and pretty seaside villages to explore. You can also join the magnificent South West Coast Path to enjoy bracing cliff top walks with spectacular views.

For a different kind of day out, the Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary is just outside Looe, providing vital refuge for primates in need, and a fascinating family activity whilst supporting a great cause.

July 2017

We have returned from a weeks holiday at Nelsons cottage in Looe. A lovely cottage and well equipped and very nicely furnished. I had a small accident whilst there which ended up having a sprained ankle, and Val (owner)was so helpful. She gave me a wheelchair and a stick, and ice packs, she also text me a couple of times to ask how I was. She even came to see me the day before we were to leave. I would would certainly stay again. If I were to have one small criticism it would be to replace the lace curtain that's damaged in the twin room, and a couple of black rubbish sacks for the bin. But that is a small thing compered to the large heart of Val. Thank you.

Looe Museum
(Less than a mile)

(4)

Owned by the East Loose Town Trust, the Looe Museum is managed by a small community of volunteers, and gives a delightful insight into the history and character of the area.  It’s an opportunity to develop your knowledge of the town and locality whether you’re a first time visitor or frequent tourist.  They frequently house new exhibitions and take part in local events, acting as a supportive part of the community.  In 2016 they celebrated the 150th anniversary of the lifeboats in Looe for example, by loaning some of its objects to the RNLI for a dedicated exhibition.  Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for children, and £4.50 for families.

beautiful line but service not very frequent

August 2022

Brilliant little railway journey. Lovely oldie Worldie station. Beautiful scenery.

July 2022

Easy to book .The train rise itself is OK but mainly through woodland so not much too see apart from trees. The walk from the train station to the town is abit of a walk about 15 minutes .The town its self is ok but seems to be for older people ie the shops are very old fashioned. Personally we would not visit again .

July 2021

Totally brilliant. Loved it

July 2021

Delightful branch line, frequent + reliable service, lovely views of estuary, woodland, bluebells ?!

June 2021

Enjoyed our train ride, but was disappointed in Liskeard, got the next train back.

September 2020

we got a group saver ticket and was very happy with the price, but unfortunately our train was due to leave at 11:10. we were sitting on the train waiting and at approximately 11:40 the driver came from his cab and apologised that the loud speakers were not working and that the train was cancelled, so we had to wait until 12:22 on a very warm train.

September 2019

Lovely little train ride alive the river, worth while. Recommend travelling to Lisgard and getting a return to Looe, much cheaper to park that way!

June 2018

a lovely short train ride through lovely scenery. Liskeard was an interesting little town to potter in for two or three hours

The Monkey Sanctuary
(2 miles)

(1)

Not perhaps what you might expect to find in Cornwall, The Monkey Sanctuary is a delightful opportunity to learn about its 36 inhabitants, all of whom have distinct characters and personalities.  An active rescue centre dealing with individuals that have often not had a very happy start to life, the priority is always their wellbeing, but it’s also an opportunity for guests to meet them and learn about the organization, explore the gardens and cultivated meadows, shop or relax in the café.  There’s also a play area for children, with views of the Cornish coast.  The sanctuary is closed on Fridays, but otherwise open from March to September (dates vary from year to year, so keep an eye on the website).  Prices start at £8.50 per adult and £5 for children, which entitles you to entry for a whole year.

June 2018

Looe Beach
(Less than a mile)

(20)

In East Looe, the beach sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered by the Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat.  A good family beach that has something for everyone, at low tide the sandy location is safe for swimming although it’s recommended you steer clear of the river mouth beyond the pier.  Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, but Hannafore beach in West Looe is dog friendly.  The beach backs on to a seafront walkway which runs its length all the way to Second Beach to the east, where it tends to be less busy and it’s good for snorkeling.  As it’s in the centre of the town there are lots of facilities and cafes nearby, but in the summer it’s a very popular spot and parking can be tricky, with traffic prohibited during these months, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.

August 2023

Great, despite the early season seaweed, the tractor cleared it very well.

April 2023

LOVE LOVE LOVE

July 2022

All of the beaches around Looe are worth visiting - and the coastal path is a must. Fuel for the hike? Not listed in the reviews is Sarah’s Pasties which has the best pasties (we ate a lot of pasties during the week!). They were also one of the few eateries in the area which could provide something for someone needing a gluten and dairy free diet. We were able to preorder pasties that met her dietary requirements.

February 2022

August 2017

Lovely beach and even when it was busy didn't feel overcrowded

August 2017

Hannafore Beach
(Less than a mile)

(9)

Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island.  At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position.  Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby.  It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay.  There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space.  Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.

Plaidy Beach
(Less than a mile)

(1)

A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery.  There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot.  There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions.  Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.

Great to walk to at low tide on the beach or at high tide via the footpath. Great dog friendly beach.

August 2018

Millendreath Beach
(2 miles)

(1)

Millendreath Beach is a south facing beach at the foot of a wooded valley, in a sheltered cove with soft sand and lots of rock pools to explore at low tide.  It’s connected to other nearby beaches by the South West Coast Path.  Dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, and there is a reasonably sized car park a few minutes walk away.  The beach is popular with families on holiday in Cornwall, and most of the surrounding area is occupied by a holiday park, so there are lot of facilities open to the public.

July 2022

Talland Bay
(3 miles)

(16)

A small, quiet beach between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay actually comprises two beaches, one of which has sand both at low and high tide and is good for swimming all the time, while the other is less sandy and is easiest to swim from at high tide.  There is a ramp for launching boats from the main beach and there are lots of small coves and tidal pools to swim in as well, so it’s a delightful area to explore in the water.  Parking is limited, but there is a small, free car park by the beach and paid parking at The Beach Café, all of which provide easy access to the sand.  Thanks to the nearby café, visitors can also benefit from the accompanying facilities, on-site shop, and tuck into Roskillys Cornish Ice-Cream as well.

Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach made it very smelly and also lots of flies. Beautiful apart from that!

June 2021

Lovely walk from polperro along coast. Cafe in picturesque bay pretty with little huts to shelter. Only downside was the coffee not good at all.

May 2021

Beautiful bay. A little smelly from the seaweed but rock pools galore and quiet

October 2020

Very interesting beach with rock pools at low tide and fascinating multi-coloured rocks, great for photography.

October 2019

A lovely place to walk too on the way to Looe. Hard work back up the hill to polperro, bit it's worth it!

October 2018

The coastal walk from Polperro to Talland Bay is outstanding. As both are scenic, (and Talland Bay benefits from an excellent cafe and free toilets), it makes for an excellent morning or afternoon trip in good weather.

May 2018

Lovely beach, beautiful walk from Polperro. Dogs requested to be kept on leads (which I suppose is preferable to a ban!). Families seem to use this beach alot.

May 2018

An interesting beach at low tide and lovely views.

April 2018

Brilliant. Bit seaweedy. Wear beach shoes incase of weever fish stings.

August 2017

Great beach pet friendly beach with rock pools etc for the dogs to explore

July 2022

We enjoyed our stay and managed the steep walk. The view was lovely from the living room window and the flat had the advantage of having it’s own car parking space and it was quiet

March 2022

Apartment in an excellent location, having parking space was an essential requirement as was wifi and utilities being included Thank you for enabling us to check in an hour early as the property was ready. When we return to Looe, we will look to book 7 Rock Towers again

January 2022

Excellent location and views, an ideal place to stay with a pleasant walk to town. Very comfortable apartment but beginning to look a little tired.

October 2021

wonderful location, beautiful views, and parking! would definitely stay there again - thank you :-)

October 2021

See above. Fantastic. What more can I say!

September 2021

We certainly enjoyed our (2nd) stay in the apartment. It is in an ideal position, overlooking the mouth of the Looe River and a relatively short walk to the town centre. In my opinion it's more suitable for the able-bodied as the walk back from town involves steps and a hill.

September 2021

The accommodation was very clean with an excellent view. Unfortunately the kitchen is very dated and the glasses were quite musky due to the smell from the cupboards. The bathroom floor tiles are cracked. The double bed was also very uncomfortable, we left a day earlier due to not getting a good night sleep. We appreciate though the cost of the apartment is lower than other apartments rented out in Rock Towers and we certainly enjoyed the fabulous position.

August 2021

This apartment is in such a good location, this was our 3rd holiday in 7 Rock Towers. The view is fantastic and we enjoyed walking to East Looe each day. Hannafore Beach is also fantastic for rockpooling. A really wonderful place to visit.

July 2021

I really enjoyed it. The view out of the lounge window was fabulous. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The location was also exceptional

June 2021

Excellent internet

April 2021

Our 7th visit speaks for itself. Also having a connection with the owner gives peace of mind should problems arise. The fact that the staff at Toad Hall are easily accessible is also an advantage in these "online" times.

October 2020

Wonderful view from the lounge window made the stay fabulous. An allocated Parking space is a real added bonus for Looe.

August 2020

Wonderful location. Gorgeous weather.

November 2019

Just spent a few days at 7 rock towers the place was very clean and warm view was fantastic l would recommend this holiday rental to anyone thank you for a very nice and pleasant time Paul & Karen.

October 2019

We had a great stay at this property . The location and parking is perfect. The view from the window is worth it.

August 2019

Another very enjoyable stay in Looe, the location is brilliant and we really enjoyed our week. Highlights included taking the 50p ferry to East Looe, climbing at the Old Sardine Factory, taking the train to Plymouth to visit the Aquarium, exploring Golitha Falls, and Robbies Ice Cream was delicious as ever!

August 2019

Lovely stay and beautiful views from Windows

October 2018

We had a lovely time in beautiful Looe and were blessed with gorgeous weather! We shall return....!

September 2018

A fantastic location, the apartment was basic but good value for money and we really enjoyed our stay in Looe. We definitely recommend Robbie's icecream and the Sardine Factory, and catching the 50p ferry between East and West Looe.

July 2018

Shower was nice and powerful. Hot water was instant which was convinient.

February 2018
