Riverside is set back from the road and water's edge and separated by the court's attractive communal gardens. A private drive leads to the apartment's entrance lobby and the parking area. The balcony is equipped with a table and 4 chairs.
The lively market town of Kingsbridge sits in a picturesque position in the heart of the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and also at the head of the stunning Kingsbridge/Salcombe Estuary. The waterside town is surrounded by green rolling landscape, and is popular amongst walkers and watersports enthusiasts alike, with paddle boarders and kayakers being a common sighting on the town's waters, as well as sailing dinghies and motor boats.
Beach lovers will be spoilt for choice with so many excellent beaches within an easy drive of the town, including Hope Cove, Bantham, Bigbury-on-Sea, Slapton Sands, Blackpool Sands, Beesands, Mill Bay and the beaches at Salcombe's North and South Sands - to name just a few!
With a range of restaurants and pubs as well as a good selection of shops and two supermarkets, Kingsbridge has plenty to offer visitors. For a beautiful day out, take a cruise on the seasonal Rivermaid ferry up the estuary to Salcombe to spend a day on one of Salcombe’s stunning beaches, or pottering around the sailing mecca's shops, cafés and restaurants.
For all-weather family fun, head to Woodlands Theme Park with its massive indoor soft play areas and rides, or check the pool and sports timetables at the Quayside Leisure Centre. Kingsbridge is also home to Kings Cinema, (formerly known as the Reel Cinema) a three-screen cinema, perfect for catching new releases as well as some older classics and indie films.
Throughout the summer months, the town hosts various events and markets that make for a pleasant day out for all the family. The annual fair week provides daily fun activities whilst the popular Food and Music Festival is a wonderful celebration of local talent and produce, with some big names thrown in.

This is a great spot to enjoy a meal or drink of two if you’re in the area, with plenty of outdoor seating taking full advantage of the glorious views over the estuary. Fantastic place to eat with a great menu and very good quality food and a good selection of local drinks etc. The restaurant is in a prime location as it sits quayside so the views are fantastic and its a great place to site and relax and take in the stunning views all whist eating great food or just having a drink. The only downside is the lack of parking and the parking that is available is very tight and not easily accessible.

We visited the Crabshell one lunchtime during our weeks holiday and found the service very good and the food we had was good. Having read about their infamous pizzas we decided to have them as takeaways one night. Unfortunately we were not that impressed and thought they were overpriced.

During Covid-19 this place was initially suitably prepared when we arrived & we felt safe inside the restaurant. The food menu was great but no drinks menu- the waitress did not volunteer what was available to drink when we asked & it took us to ask her before she could advise us what was available. Food was largely excellent although several of the mussel shells were closed. The one in and out policy in the toilets was not monitored which meant it was largely ignored & these were not as clean. I think in a pre Covid 19 world, this place would be a fun experience but there seems to be quite a bit of learning required when the place is busy & some instruction on providing either a drinks or wine menu or ensuring staff know is available rather having to extract this through interrogation!

The staff were very busy but one of the younger, blonde haired waitresses spent quite a lot of time chatting to people at one table, leaving the others running around and customers waiting a long time for service. This is the place we had to collect the keys to our holiday accommodation. The staff were polite, cheerful and welcoming and wished us well during our stay. We ate here only once, not because we didn't like it but because we like to explore a lot and consequently eat at lots of different places. The food here was adequate, not stunning, but cooked properly and presented well (apart from not putting all the items from the menu on your plate ie the £11.95 crispy chilli beef dish my wife had was missing the bok choy and bean sprouts) but tasted delicious none-the-less and the £10.95 mushroom and cashew nut stroganoff was okay - portions were good. The atmosphere was lively, cheerful, a little noisy perhaps but not rowdy, everyone having a good time, not necessarily a good place for a quiet intimate meal for two (might be a quiet corner somewhere at the back)! There is no dedicated parking apart from the Pay and Display car park which is almost adjacent anyway (£1 minimum charge). We would certainly come again if in the area.

Lovely quirky rustic little place to eat (out-of-season limited opening hours otherwise we would have eaten here more than once)! It is called The Old Bakery because that is literally what it is. The ovens and temp gauge are still in situ and the room is probably pretty much as it always has been but lovingly looked after and decorated. Ambient music plays from Sonos speakers to add to the modest atmosphere. (Probably quite busy in high season) Tapas menu, Persian Mediterranean influence. Really nice if you like that sort of thing! We did, it was lovely. Highly recommend a visit or two. Family friendly. Reasonable prices typically £6 to £7.50 per dish. Parking in main pay and display car park just across the road near the water.

We caught the ferry twice, firstly in the sunshine, and we enjoyed the scenery, we caught the bus back too which was very easy. The second time it was a bit chilly so the lovely lady on the boat gave us a cosy blanket for the journey. It’s good not to have to park in Salcombe too.

My Son & I had a great time taking part in this for the 1st time. Crispin was very caring, patient and a brilliant instructor. It poured of rain but it remained warm despite the early start! This did not dampen our enthusiasm & Crispin did offer to curtail the 1 of the 2 hours and refund us but we were enjoying ourselves far too much! We both ended up in the estuary for a swim anyway! Absolutely brilliant 2 hours & highly recommended.

We have said it before and we will say it again, the reason South Devon attracts so many visitors and captures their hearts is because it really is a phenomenally beautiful part of the world, and as such is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in many areas. So walking is a great pleasure when you’re on holiday here, especially as there are over 40 routes in the AONB itself, ranging in length from two to 12 miles. They are a wonderful opportunity to explore the wildlife, archaeology and history of South Devon, as well as the views and scenery along the way.

Our apartment owners recommended Bolberry Down as somewhere to park ( NT Car Park) and enjoy the super views, even in the rain. It proved to be an excellent suggestion and we found paths from the Car Park that were easy to walk as well as the Oceans Restaurant which was good apart from not offering their sandwich menu during Sunday Lunch.

Sunny Cove

Accessed either by boat, via a 10-minute walk through the woods from parking at Mill Bay, or a stroll from the Salcombe to East Portlemouth Ferry, Sunny Cove is a sandy beach which, as you might expect, catches the sun throughout the day, weather pending. It’s on the East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe Estuary opposite North Sands beach and Fort Charles, the ruined fortification that was originally constructed during the reign of Henry VIII to defend the Kingsbridge Estuary against French and Spanish Pirates. It’s a relatively gentle spot for swimming and ideal for picnics, lazy summer afternoons, and reaching on kayaks and paddle boards from other nearby beaches as well as being the perfect spot for building sandcastles. That said, the tide can come in quite quickly so make sure you don’t get caught out and be careful of the swell when bringing boats into the beach. Head there for the day in the summer or as a stop off en route to the café at Gara Rock or a longer walk along the coast path towards Prawle Point. Dogs are welcome all year round but keep in mind that there aren’t any facilities in the immediate vicinity (it would be a 10-15-minute walk along wooded footpaths) so take your sandwiches with you!

We attempted to drive to Mill Bay car park- not a good idea in August! No parking spaces, no turning points. We tried another day, parking at Gara Rock and asking down the bridle path. North Sands, Salcombe

The first beach as you walk along the Cliff Road out of Salcombe, North Sands sits in a valley and is a sandy horseshoe shaped beach that’s expansive at low tide. Thanks to its shape and location, it’s extremely popular in the summer because there’s plenty of space to set up camp for the day with buckets, spades and fishing nets in tow for avid marine biologists and sand castle connoisseurs. The beach has a fresh water stream running through it from the top of the valley, which, aside from providing hours of entertainment for accompanying dogs and a marvellous place to wash the sand off your feet, also means that the beach is largely wet sand, so don’t forget to take something to sit on if you’re heading there for the day. Popular with swimmers, despite the chilly water, North Sands provides a wonderful view out of the mouth of the Salcombe estuary and into the deep blue yonder so, for keen photographers, it’s ideal. If the weather is right then it’s a favourite amongst body boarders or even surfers on choppier days, and it’s a great place to take the paddle boards and kayaks if you happen to have them. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, unlike many of the beaches in the area, there are toilets over the road and there’s a car park with charges from £1 throughout the year. The cherry on top of this beautiful location is The Winking Prawn café and restaurant that’s right next to the beach. Open all year round they serve everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner to coffee, tea and cake, and in the summer they provide a barbecue in the garden overlooking the sea. It is popular though so leave a little time to queue for that Salcombe Dairy honeycomb ice cream in the height of summer!
A wonderful sheltered bay, the sea is so clean and lovely to swim in. Disabled access and dog friendly with the lovely cafe close by.

South Milton Sands

A long stretch of sand broken only by the South Milton Ley freshwater reed bed, South Milton Sands is a dramatic beach that’s exposed to the elements, making it something of a chameleon throughout the year. Rugged in its beauty, there’s nothing quite like watching the sun set at this beach behind an iconic rock archway in the water; it really is spectacular, particularly if you do so over dinner in the summer months from The Beach Café, a small but perfectly formed restaurant and café that’s perched just above the sand. If you want a table inside then you really do have to book this one, but if the weather is fine then eating outside is a joy. The beach is sandy and popular on windy days with kite surfers and windsurfers, but in calmer weather is perfect for a summer swim. Dogs are welcome at South Milton throughout the year, there’s a National Trust car park by the beach which costs from £5 for the day, £3 after 4pm or is free for National Trust members. There are also toilets nearby. It’s also worth knowing that in the summer months lifeguards are in situ from 6th July until 8th September, keeping everyone safe in the sun, sea and sand. When the weather is less conducive to sitting and admiring the view, South Milton is perfectly placed for a stroll along the coast path either towards Hope Cove and around towards Salcombe if you fancy making a day of it, or in the opposite direction you can walk towards Bantham and Bigbury on Sea. It’s a wonderful place to explore and watch Devon’s wildlife in all its glory.

South Milton sands is a beautiful beach. Arrive early to get a good parking space as it does get quite busy. The beach is sand and shingle. £5 per day for parking, great value. The only shame is that there were too many paddle boards getting in the way of swimmers. Maybe a cordened off area for swimmers would be better.

Safe shallow water for the family with some good waves for body-boarding as the tide came in and friendly life guards in attendance all day! Lovely beach, stunning views and a safe place for children to rock pool, and swim. Spoiled for us by the large numbers of kite surfers dominating the water along with the surf school who took little account of those families enjoying the beach ordering people out of the water when they had a schooling session on. Words were had. They need to understand it isn't their property and if people want to enjoy the beach, they need to move to a spot where they aren't bothering people. Good car parking and a nice little cafe selling cakes/flapjacks and coffee with WC next to it, so beach-goers are well catered for. Could have done without the thump thump music and bar flies in shades but that's typical of many such places these days. On the whole a great beach with decent accessibility via car or foot and preferable in many ways to the larger beach at Thurlestone during peak times, and preferable to the beaches at Hope Cove when busy.

This was our 4th stay at Riverside - which probably speaks for itself. This time we visited Salcombe by bus (I don't think I would want to drive there, especially in summer). We walked part of the coastal path from Bantham beach and found the lovely cafe in the local shop (we were too early for the pub which is also good for lunch) And this year the Mexican restaurant La Ranchera was open (we are usually there during their post-Christmas holiday) and we had an excellent meal. The Cod Father and the Maha Bharat were as good as ever. All in all a great holiday in a comfortable, clean and well-equipped flat.

After a long journey from home, we were delighted to arrive at No.3. It is a lovely apartment - clean, warm, well equipped and great views. Thank you for the goody bag - most welcomed! Beautifully presented apartment. Everything you would need to make your stay comfortable has been thought of. Everything is of a high speck. Information folder comprehensive and the welcome package a bonus. This is one of the best places we have stays. NOW TO THE VIEW! What can you say! it was an absolute joy to wake up, walk into the living room and be greeted by the ever-changing vista. We were lucky as most of the week was fine and when we did need to take shelter we did so in The Crabshell Inn & The Seven Stars pub. Meal at the Mahabharat was excellent and nice selection of cafes for coffee and cake. We visited Dartmouth, Bigbury-On-Sea, Blackpool Sands & took the ferry from Kingsbridge to Salcombe and returned by bus (20-25mins journey). All lovely coastal areas to visit. Some of the country roads can be a bit hairy but we got used to it in time. Thank you for a lovely week & we look forward to returning soon.

Our second visit to Riverside and we have had a wonderful holiday over the past two weeks. Highlights - Seeing seals at Start Point; Visiting National Trusts - Overbecks, Coleton Fishacre and Greenways were all fantastic. Really enjoyed the beaches - Bigbury, Blackpool Sands and North Sands. Went walking on Dartmoor. Lovely walk to see deer at Dartington. Otter Sanctuary was lovely. Salcombe, Plymouth and of course Kingsbridge are a joy to visit - nothing can beat the view from Riverside. Children loved paddle boarding. We plan to return - loved staying here,

What a great week! Started with a foody few days in Totnes (The Bull is amazing!) and then came to Kingsbridge and Riverview again. Got a great suntan from the Balcony, watching the swan family. Loved fair week & the magical lantern parade. I'd recommend The Crabby (so local for a G&T). Mangetout at the top of high street for breakfast and a bloody mary. Not to say that we are keen, but we have just booked again for next July - you'd better book yourselves before it's too late!

Our second stay at No3 although we've been visiting the area for many years. We've done a number of walks including Hope & Bolberry Down, a riverside walk near Loddiswell and coast path around Bolt Head calling in a the beautiful Overbecks Gardens (National Trust) for a couple of hours. Greenway House (National Trust again) is well worth a visit as are the towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, and Salcombe. Consider using the good local bus services, particularly if like us you're old enough to have a concessionary bus pass! The apartment just as good as the first time, we'll be back!

A wonderful week at Riverside. Thank you! Beaches we'd recommend - Bantham for sand dunes and waves, Mill Bay (N.Trust car park fills up early) for paddleboarding & canoeing near Salcombe, Great Mattiscombe Sands to escape the crowds. Walks we'd recommend South Milton Sands (N.Trust carpark) to Hope Cove and Bolt Tail and back along to Thurlestone. Great pizza alfresco at The Cove Inn, Hope Cove. Start Point - Lighthouse (check opening times) to Lannacombe Beach and Great Mattiscombe Sands (stunning views). Places to visit - Dartmouth has lots to explore and museum worth a visit. Kingsbridge, Cookworthy Museum was also worth seeing. We hope to come back again!

We've visted Kingsbridge for many years and always go to Avon Mill Garden Centre for a lovely lunch and a browse around all their outlets. The flat is beautiful and the view amazing. It had everything needed to make our stay perfect and we are looking forward to returning. Despite the chilly wind the balcony was very sheltered and we were able to sit and enjoy the sunshine on a couple of afternoons.

We really enjoyed our week in this lovely apartment. The photos and description are very accurate. This is spacious, warm and comfortable accomodation. Furniture, accessories, kitchen equipment and the bathroom are all of a high standard. We came back early on several days so we could enjoy the view and even managed a couple of drinks on the balcony. We would definitely choose to stay in this apartment again if we want to return to this area.

Had a lovely stay at number 3. We found it to be very clean and well-appointed. Everything we needed for a great stay and more! The weather was fabulous, if I dare say, a little too hot! The only drawback of the apartment during a heatwave is the road noise when door and windows are open, particularly evident on an evening when trying to watch TV. Try the Old Bakery for dinner, lovely food and very welcoming. Woody's also good. If you cant get a reservation at The Crabshell, there's always takeaway pizzas from there which were very good. South Milton beach is lovely and not too busy. Thank you!

Fantastic apartment that has a been a great bolthole for us and our two boys (aged 6 and 4). We have been coming to this part of Devon for years but this is the first time in 3 Riverside. We had excellent burgers at Woody's on rainy days and many trips to Burgh Island. The Cricket Inn at Beesands is worth a visit and book in early at The Crabshell Inn. We also had many trips to the playpark around the corner which the boys loved.

We have enjoyed our third trip to Kingsbridge as much as the first. Weather has been a bit mixed, but it didn't stop us getting out and about. Enjoyed some lovely walks, especially South Milton Sands to Bantham, Ringmore to Ayrmer Cove. Its nice to see that Fore Street is still able to retain its independent shops. Ant then its nice to come back to a very comfortable apartment with so much interest on the Ria.

My husband and I and our two boys have had a fantastic time here! One is 20 and the other is 13. This is a lovely apartment, clean and spacious with a gorgeous balcony with fantastic views which is ever changing. We feel really relaxed and will definitely be back again! We especially loved National Trust Overbecks, Coleton Fishacre and going on the Rivermaid cruise around the harbour. Salcombe and Dartmouth are worth the visit. This is one of the best places we've stayed in - a home from home with attention to detail!

The weather has not been kind to us however, coming back to a warm and cosy apartment made all the difference. This was our 4th stay at Riverside - which probably speaks for itself. This time we visited Salcombe by bus (I don't think I would want to drive there, especially in summer). We walked part of the coastal path from Bantham beach and found the lovely cafe in the local shop (we were too early for the pub which is also good for lunch) And this year the Mexican restaurant La Ranchera was open (we are usually there during their post-Christmas holiday) and we had an excellent meal. The Cod Father and the Maha Bharat were as good as ever. All in all a great holiday in a comfortable, clean and well-equipped flat.

Beautifully presented apartment. Everything you would need to make your stay comfortable has been thought of. Everything is of a high speck. Information folder comprehensive and the welcome package a bonus. This is one of the best places we have stays. NOW TO THE VIEW! What can you say! it was an absolute joy to wake up, walk into the living room and be greeted by the ever-changing vista. We were lucky as most of the week was fine and when we did need to take shelter we did so in The Crabshell Inn & The Seven Stars pub. Meal at the Mahabharat was excellent and nice selection of cafes for coffee and cake. We visited Dartmouth, Bigbury-On-Sea, Blackpool Sands & took the ferry from Kingsbridge to Salcombe and returned by bus (20-25mins journey). All lovely coastal areas to visit. Some of the country roads can be a bit hairy but we got used to it in time. Thank you for a lovely week & we look forward to returning soon.

Our second visit to Riverside and we have had a wonderful holiday over the past two weeks. Highlights - Seeing seals at Start Point; Visiting National Trusts - Overbecks, Coleton Fishacre and Greenways were all fantastic. Really enjoyed the beaches - Bigbury, Blackpool Sands and North Sands. Went walking on Dartmoor. Lovely walk to see deer at Dartington. Otter Sanctuary was lovely. Salcombe, Plymouth and of course Kingsbridge are a joy to visit - nothing can beat the view from Riverside. Children loved paddle boarding. We plan to return - loved staying here,

What a great week! Started with a foody few days in Totnes (The Bull is amazing!) and then came to Kingsbridge and Riverview again. Got a great suntan from the Balcony, watching the swan family. Loved fair week & the magical lantern parade. I'd recommend The Crabby (so local for a G&T). Mangetout at the top of high street for breakfast and a bloody mary. Not to say that we are keen, but we have just booked again for next July - you'd better book yourselves before it's too late!

Our second stay at No3 although we've been visiting the area for many years. We've done a number of walks including Hope & Bolberry Down, a riverside walk near Loddiswell and coast path around Bolt Head calling in a the beautiful Overbecks Gardens (National Trust) for a couple of hours. Greenway House (National Trust again) is well worth a visit as are the towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, and Salcombe. Consider using the good local bus services, particularly if like us you're old enough to have a concessionary bus pass! The apartment just as good as the first time, we'll be back!

Beaches we'd recommend - Bantham for sand dunes and waves, Mill Bay (N.Trust car park fills up early) for paddleboarding & canoeing near Salcombe, Great Mattiscombe Sands to escape the crowds. Walks we'd recommend South Milton Sands (N.Trust carpark) to Hope Cove and Bolt Tail and back along to Thurlestone. Great pizza alfresco at The Cove Inn, Hope Cove. Start Point - Lighthouse (check opening times) to Lannacombe Beach and Great Mattiscombe Sands (stunning views). Places to visit - Dartmouth has lots to explore and museum worth a visit. Kingsbridge, Cookworthy Museum was also worth seeing. We hope to come back again!

We've visted Kingsbridge for many years and always go to Avon Mill Garden Centre for a lovely lunch and a browse around all their outlets. The flat is beautiful and the view amazing. It had everything needed to make our stay perfect and we are looking forward to returning. Despite the chilly wind the balcony was very sheltered and we were able to sit and enjoy the sunshine on a couple of afternoons.

We really enjoyed our week in this lovely apartment. The photos and description are very accurate. This is spacious, warm and comfortable accomodation. Furniture, accessories, kitchen equipment and the bathroom are all of a high standard. We came back early on several days so we could enjoy the view and even managed a couple of drinks on the balcony. We would definitely choose to stay in this apartment again if we want to return to this area.

Had a lovely stay at number 3. We found it to be very clean and well-appointed. Everything we needed for a great stay and more! The weather was fabulous, if I dare say, a little too hot! The only drawback of the apartment during a heatwave is the road noise when door and windows are open, particularly evident on an evening when trying to watch TV. Try the Old Bakery for dinner, lovely food and very welcoming. Woody's also good. If you cant get a reservation at The Crabshell, there's always takeaway pizzas from there which were very good. South Milton beach is lovely and not too busy. Thank you!

Fantastic apartment that has a been a great bolthole for us and our two boys (aged 6 and 4). We have been coming to this part of Devon for years but this is the first time in 3 Riverside. We had excellent burgers at Woody's on rainy days and many trips to Burgh Island. The Cricket Inn at Beesands is worth a visit and book in early at The Crabshell Inn. We also had many trips to the playpark around the corner which the boys loved.

Ant then its nice to come back to a very comfortable apartment with so much interest on the Ria.

Lovely apartment and wonderful views all day long. Very well equipped and comfortable bed! Christmas tree was a very nice touch. Christmas Fair/Farmers market on Saturday in Kingsbridge added a bonus to the weekend! Nice meal at Creeks End pub on Friday night. On Sunday we went to Burgh Island - 4 seasons in 1 day but lovely to visit! Many many thanks!

My husband and I and our two boys have had a fantastic time here! One is 20 and the other is 13. This is a lovely apartment, clean and spacious with a gorgeous balcony with fantastic views which is ever changing. We feel really relaxed and will definitely be back again! We especially loved National Trust Overbecks, Coleton Fishacre and going on the Rivermaid cruise around the harbour. Salcombe and Dartmouth are worth the visit. This is one of the best places we've stayed in - a home from home with attention to detail!

We have had a lovely relaxing week in this beautiful apartment. We have ventured around the local area - Salcombe, Blackpool Sands, Exeter, but our favourite day was spent at Wembury on the beach, rock-pooling and then a walk along the coastal path. We are fully de-stressed and ready to go again!

Fantastic place to eat with a great menu and very good quality food and a good selection of local drinks etc. The restaurant is in a prime location as it sits quayside so the views are fantastic and its a great place to site and relax and take in the stunning views all whist eating great food or just having a drink. The only downside is the lack of parking and the parking that is available is very tight and not easily accessible.

We visited the Crabshell one lunchtime during our weeks holiday and found the service very good and the food we had was good. Having read about their infamous pizzas we decided to have them as takeaways one night. Unfortunately we were not that impressed and thought they were overpriced.

During Covid-19 this place was initially suitably prepared when we arrived & we felt safe inside the restaurant. The food menu was great but no drinks menu- the waitress did not volunteer what was available to drink when we asked & it took us to ask her before she could advise us what was available. Food was largely excellent although several of the mussel shells were closed. The one in and out policy in the toilets was not monitored which meant it was largely ignored & these were not as clean. I think in a pre Covid 19 world, this place would be a fun experience but there seems to be quite a bit of learning required when the place is busy & some instruction on providing either a drinks or wine menu or ensuring staff know is available rather having to extract this through interrogation!

The staff were very busy but one of the younger, blonde haired waitresses spent quite a lot of time chatting to people at one table, leaving the others running around and customers waiting a long time for service. This is the place we had to collect the keys to our holiday accommodation. The staff were polite, cheerful and welcoming and wished us well during our stay. We ate here only once, not because we didn't like it but because we like to explore a lot and consequently eat at lots of different places. The food here was adequate, not stunning, but cooked properly and presented well (apart from not putting all the items from the menu on your plate ie the £11.95 crispy chilli beef dish my wife had was missing the bok choy and bean sprouts) but tasted delicious none-the-less and the £10.95 mushroom and cashew nut stroganoff was okay - portions were good. The atmosphere was lively, cheerful, a little noisy perhaps but not rowdy, everyone having a good time, not necessarily a good place for a quiet intimate meal for two (might be a quiet corner somewhere at the back)! There is no dedicated parking apart from the Pay and Display car park which is almost adjacent anyway (£1 minimum charge). We would certainly come again if in the area.

Lovely quirky rustic little place to eat (out-of-season limited opening hours otherwise we would have eaten here more than once)! It is called The Old Bakery because that is literally what it is. The ovens and temp gauge are still in situ and the room is probably pretty much as it always has been but lovingly looked after and decorated. Ambient music plays from Sonos speakers to add to the modest atmosphere. (Probably quite busy in high season) Tapas menu, Persian Mediterranean influence. Really nice if you like that sort of thing! We did, it was lovely. Highly recommend a visit or two. Family friendly. Reasonable prices typically £6 to £7.50 per dish. Parking in main pay and display car park just across the road near the water.

We caught the ferry twice, firstly in the sunshine, and we enjoyed the scenery, we caught the bus back too which was very easy. The second time it was a bit chilly so the lovely lady on the boat gave us a cosy blanket for the journey. It’s good not to have to park in Salcombe too.

My Son & I had a great time taking part in this for the 1st time. Crispin was very caring, patient and a brilliant instructor. It poured of rain but it remained warm despite the early start! This did not dampen our enthusiasm & Crispin did offer to curtail the 1 of the 2 hours and refund us but we were enjoying ourselves far too much! We both ended up in the estuary for a swim anyway! Absolutely brilliant 2 hours & highly recommended.

A decent enough café, with reasonable coffee and a pleasant ambience, alongside a local art gallery with (when we visited) an eclectic mix of art and artifacts. And if you're into yoga, my guess is that any type of yoga you can imagine is available here. If the weather's nice, the rear courtyard garden is quite pleasant, too.

We have said it before and we will say it again, the reason South Devon attracts so many visitors and captures their hearts is because it really is a phenomenally beautiful part of the world, and as such is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in many areas. So walking is a great pleasure when you’re on holiday here, especially as there are over 40 routes in the AONB itself, ranging in length from two to 12 miles. They are a wonderful opportunity to explore the wildlife, archaeology and history of South Devon, as well as the views and scenery along the way.

Fantastic circular walk from East Portlemouth (catch the water taxi first from Salcombe) then follow the coastal path through woods and out on to stunning cliff top views for two miles until you reach Gara Rock Hotel which is something special then take the shorter return walk downhill through the woods.

Our apartment owners recommended Bolberry Down as somewhere to park ( NT Car Park) and enjoy the super views, even in the rain. It proved to be an excellent suggestion and we found paths from the Car Park that were easy to walk as well as the Oceans Restaurant which was good apart from not offering their sandwich menu during Sunday Lunch.

Sunny Cove

Accessed either by boat, via a 10-minute walk through the woods from parking at Mill Bay, or a stroll from the Salcombe to East Portlemouth Ferry, Sunny Cove is a sandy beach which, as you might expect, catches the sun throughout the day, weather pending. It’s on the East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe Estuary opposite North Sands beach and Fort Charles, the ruined fortification that was originally constructed during the reign of Henry VIII to defend the Kingsbridge Estuary against French and Spanish Pirates. It’s a relatively gentle spot for swimming and ideal for picnics, lazy summer afternoons, and reaching on kayaks and paddle boards from other nearby beaches as well as being the perfect spot for building sandcastles. That said, the tide can come in quite quickly so make sure you don’t get caught out and be careful of the swell when bringing boats into the beach. Head there for the day in the summer or as a stop off en route to the café at Gara Rock or a longer walk along the coast path towards Prawle Point. Dogs are welcome all year round but keep in mind that there aren’t any facilities in the immediate vicinity (it would be a 10-15-minute walk along wooded footpaths) so take your sandwiches with you!

We attempted to drive to Mill Bay car park- not a good idea in August! No parking spaces, no turning points. We tried another day, parking at Gara Rock and asking down the bridle path. We have a disabled granddaughter, the walk down was manageable but the return walk was much more difficult. Beautiful beach and worth the walk.

North Sands, Salcombe

The first beach as you walk along the Cliff Road out of Salcombe, North Sands sits in a valley and is a sandy horseshoe shaped beach that’s expansive at low tide. Thanks to its shape and location, it’s extremely popular in the summer because there’s plenty of space to set up camp for the day with buckets, spades and fishing nets in tow for avid marine biologists and sand castle connoisseurs. The beach has a fresh water stream running through it from the top of the valley, which, aside from providing hours of entertainment for accompanying dogs and a marvellous place to wash the sand off your feet, also means that the beach is largely wet sand, so don’t forget to take something to sit on if you’re heading there for the day. Popular with swimmers, despite the chilly water, North Sands provides a wonderful view out of the mouth of the Salcombe estuary and into the deep blue yonder so, for keen photographers, it’s ideal. If the weather is right then it’s a favourite amongst body boarders or even surfers on choppier days, and it’s a great place to take the paddle boards and kayaks if you happen to have them. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, unlike many of the beaches in the area, there are toilets over the road and there’s a car park with charges from £1 throughout the year. The cherry on top of this beautiful location is The Winking Prawn café and restaurant that’s right next to the beach. Open all year round they serve everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner to coffee, tea and cake, and in the summer they provide a barbecue in the garden overlooking the sea. It is popular though so leave a little time to queue for that Salcombe Dairy honeycomb ice cream in the height of summer!
A wonderful sheltered bay, the sea is so clean and lovely to swim in. Disabled access and dog friendly with the lovely cafe close by.

What a beautiful place to walk to along Coast Road from Salcombe town. The view through the trees to the amazing colour of the water is breathtaking and North Sands is spectacular. We could have sat just people watching all day. The winking prawn is a lovely place for a drink or bite to eat.

South Milton Sands

A long stretch of sand broken only by the South Milton Ley freshwater reed bed, South Milton Sands is a dramatic beach that’s exposed to the elements, making it something of a chameleon throughout the year. Rugged in its beauty, there’s nothing quite like watching the sun set at this beach behind an iconic rock archway in the water; it really is spectacular, particularly if you do so over dinner in the summer months from The Beach Café, a small but perfectly formed restaurant and café that’s perched just above the sand. If you want a table inside then you really do have to book this one, but if the weather is fine then eating outside is a joy. The beach is sandy and popular on windy days with kite surfers and windsurfers, but in calmer weather is perfect for a summer swim. Dogs are welcome at South Milton throughout the year, there’s a National Trust car park by the beach which costs from £5 for the day, £3 after 4pm or is free for National Trust members. There are also toilets nearby. It’s also worth knowing that in the summer months lifeguards are in situ from 6th July until 8th September, keeping everyone safe in the sun, sea and sand. When the weather is less conducive to sitting and admiring the view, South Milton is perfectly placed for a stroll along the coast path either towards Hope Cove and around towards Salcombe if you fancy making a day of it, or in the opposite direction you can walk towards Bantham and Bigbury on Sea. It’s a wonderful place to explore and watch Devon’s wildlife in all its glory.
We love this all year round very dog friendly beach. Great even when the tide in. Plenty of parking and a great cafe to boot.

South Milton sands is a beautiful beach. Arrive early to get a good parking space as it does get quite busy. The beach is sand and shingle. £5 per day for parking, great value. The only shame is that there were too many paddle boards getting in the way of swimmers. Maybe a cordened off area for swimmers would be better.

We walked over from Hope Cove and found it a pretty unattractive beach with a massive pipe leading out to sea and a horrible sewage smell. Happy we hadn't bothered to go there for a day out!

We loved this beach and returned a number of times during our stay. Safe shallow water for the family with some good waves for body-boarding as the tide came in and friendly life guards in attendance all day! Easy access from the car park - facilities nearby and dog friendly - everything we needed! We also enjoyed the cliff top walk to nearby hope cove on one afternoon.

Lovely beach, stunning views and a safe place for children to rock pool, and swim. Spoiled for us by the large numbers of kite surfers dominating the water along with the surf school who took little account of those families enjoying the beach ordering people out of the water when they had a schooling session on. Words were had. They need to understand it isn't their property and if people want to enjoy the beach, they need to move to a spot where they aren't bothering people. Good car parking and a nice little cafe selling cakes/flapjacks and coffee with WC next to it, so beach-goers are well catered for. Could have done without the thump thump music and bar flies in shades but that's typical of many such places these days. On the whole a great beach with decent accessibility via car or foot and preferable in many ways to the larger beach at Thurlestone during peak times, and preferable to the beaches at Hope Cove when busy.
