A hilltop location provides Foxenhole Farmhouse with stunning panoramic views across rolling Devon countryside to the river Dart and beyond to the heights of Dartmoor in the distance.

This detached former farmhouse provides tasteful, very comfortable accommodation with an extensive garden in a beautiful area. Alongside the road, it is a 20 minute walk down the hill to reach Dittisham, a quintessential attractive and unspoilt South Devon village in a tranquil setting overlooking the widest part of the River Dart. There are delightful stone built and thatched cottages with gorgeous views of bright river craft making a splash of colour against a backdrop of densely wooded slopes. Narrow lanes reach down to the beach where the waters are a popular venue for boating enthusiasts. The village is lively with a village shop and two good pubs, one on the waterside where the quay is a favourite spot for crabbing and a tug on a bell rope calls the ferry boatman to collect you to visit Greenways, Agatha Christie’s original home, now part of the National Trust. Dartmouth and Totnes are easily reached by ferry and there are boats for hire, dinghy moorings and a sailing school.

Steps up to an open porch and front door. Hallway with cloak hooks and sliding door to downstairs cloakroom with basin and WC. Handsome spacious sitting room with two leather sofas, rugs on the tiled floor, huge feature stone hearth with an electric woodburner, 55” wide screen Smart TV and French doors to the conservatory.  This lovely room has views over the garden and beyond is well furnished with wicker chairs and double doors open to the terrace. Kitchen diner with ornamental fireplace and farmhouse table to seat 6. Bright coloured tiled work surfaces and triple aspect windows make this a very light room with splendid views, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, air fryer, electric cooker with halogen hob and double ovens. Door to rear lobby/utility area with dog basket, washing machine and room for coats and boots.

From above-mentioned Hallway, carpeted stairs rise to the first floor. Fine master bedroom with 6ft super-king bed, flat screen TV, views across farmland to the River Dart and Stoke Gabriel and en-suite bathroom with painted floor, bath, shower over, basin and WC. Twin bedroom with 3ft beds (both with double duvets), matching tallboy chests, fitted hanging cupboard and more fine views. Second double bedroom with 6ft super-king bed, flat screen TV and views to the front of the house and countryside. Family shower room with painted floor boards, large shower enclosure, basin and WC.

Please note: This property accepts 6 people only. If exceeded, the owner reserves the right to remove the whole party.

A gravelled driveway leads to a parking area at the front of the house bordered by lawns that extend around the side. At the rear of the house a wide paved terrace is provided with table and chairs. Paths lead to the large enclosed lawns.

A destination for keen sailors, fishermen and artists alike, the tranquil location of Dittisham is hard to beat. This attractive riverside village nestles on the banks of the serene River Dart, and benefits from a couple of pubs and the wonderful waterside Anchor Stone Café

The pontoon is a popular place for kids and families to relax and have a go at crabbing. This favourite holiday activity inevitably results in shrieks of delight as the cranky crustaceans are admired and compared whilst their captors try not to get nipped! Our top tip for crabbing success is to bait your line with little bits of bacon which crabs seem to find irresistible.

Directly opposite Dittisham, and just a short ferry ride across the river is Greenway House, once the holiday home of the famous crime author, Agatha Christie. The house along with its stunning river bank gardens are open to the public, and definitely worth a visit. Dogs are very welcome too, in the gardens on a short lead. This stretch of river has seen plenty of historic vessels pass by over the centuries, with tales from Viking long boats exploring the waters to American landing craft rolling past during the 2nd World War.

A variety of locally grown sweet plum, the 'Ditsum plum' was named after the village. You might spot some in the orchards over the summer months, or if you are lucky you might even get to taste some. They are sweet eating plums particularly good in jam – perfect for a Dittisham twist on a Devon cream tea!

The market town of Totnes and the waterfront town of Dartmouth are close to Dittisham, both with plentiful shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants. The towns also have supermarkets, handy for stocking up on your weekly shop.

There are also numerous beaches close to Dittisham. We recommend driving the breathtaking coast road from Dartmouth towards Torcross and stop off at Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands on your way. You can also hire boats and have sailing lessons from the Dittisham’s pontoon, so whether you’re a complete beginner or an established sea dog you’re sure to be tempted onto the water during your holidays.

A holiday cottage in Dittisham makes a great base for exploring the beautiful River Dart and the stunning stretch of coastline around Dartmouth.

Guests are permitted to park 3 cars only at the property. Should guests wish to bring a boat and trailer then a request can be made for this to be parked nearby at the owners.

Please note: If extra visitors are visiting the property, you are requested to make the owners aware before.

I cannot believe these reviews. We were in Dittisham I believe the 4th of October. We went in the Red Lion after a steep walk and were rather tired .It was a joy just to see an inn and village shop and post office all in one.We ordered a drink and asked about food ,the young lady explained that the kitchen was closed but then the manager came out and offered to cook for us and we had sausage mash carrots and peas.Others then came in and had soup etc .We were very impressed at such kindness and good service, especially as yes they had the builders in.but no complaints from us .

October 2023

Really awful. The two ladies who run it are rude and arrogant. Don't expect a warm welcome. The toilets are filthy, the lounge is passible. Not recommended at all.

October 2023

Used takeaway dinner service ....prompt and efficient preparation of meals at short notice and tasty food

September 2023

A real community pub, post office and shop. Slightly eccentric but well worth a visit

May 2023

Heard some bad reviews about the Red Lion but found it to be a great pub with good food and an excellent well stocked shop. Also is a Post Office. Can collect warm croissants in the morning, have breakfast there, order bread.

August 2022

Not great. Dirty and not an option to eat in as menu so limited

August 2022

Fabulous quirky pub/shop/cafe at the top of the village. Staff really friendly and helpful, fabulous Dartmoor Legend ale. Well stocked shop - a bit of everything, and even hand-dived scallops in the freezer I noticed.

October 2021

Fantastic as a local pub, great food with lovely views on the terrace at the back …… but even better as a local shop …….everything you could need for self catering with fresh produce daily.

July 2021

Could not work our if closed or open? walked past one night and people sat inside, the next night door locked? A sign on the door may have been helpful.

June 2021

Very busy pub, but perfect for families with good play area. Food excellent

June 2021

Welcoming pub run by two ladies. Also the village shop. We strongly recommend that you support them during your stay. The view from their terrace is (almost) as good as the one from the Dower House!

June 2021

The heart of the village - pub/post office/shop all in one. As a result slightly feels like it's lost it's soul but nice to see everyone using the shop and post office side of the business and clearly a friendly local community. Nice enough views from the terrace, dogs welcome.

May 2021

The red lion is a unique place very friendly , and you can almost get anything you need here , and while you wait have a drink at the same time.

September 2019

Great they sell everything including beer bread milk eggs and a lot of other essentials and close when the pub closes. A very good idea as the nearest supermarket is about 3 miles away.

July 2019

lovely pub, lovely people, fantastic views

July 2018

Very good home-cooked food. Pleasant and attentive hosts.

May 2018

Fabulous, quirky, friendly all that a village pub and stores should be!

January 2018

Down to earth hub of the village Service always with a smile Don't expect luxury but it is amazing as not only a decent pub but post office and shop ad well As long as the pub is open it seems the shop is as well and it sells everything from newspapers & fresh croissants to cooked meats and household items

June 2017

Brilliant pub - has everything you could need in the shop, great little cafe and wonderful restaurant. Great for kids too.

June 2017

Very friendly and helpful staff. Has the advantage of an outside eating/drinking area. Reasonably well stocked shop/Post Office. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic seafood and lovely location on the river but if you drive down you can only do this at low tide

July 2023

An absolute must for seafood and fish lovers. Amazing views to go along with the fabulous food and drink. Very dog friendly. Booking essential in season!!

May 2023

Great food at the Anchorstone would recommend - you need to book well in advance

May 2023

April 2023

Fabulous

September 2022

Once we managed to get a table (only one day I’m entire week) it was fabulous! But closed two days of week Tues and Weds

August 2022

Fantastic lunch and great service

July 2022

The Anchorstone Cafe had such good reviews and our visit didn’t disappoint. We had a table directly overlooking the pontoon at Dittisham which was very busy and great fun to watch whilst dining. Prawns and scallops were delicious and that was just the starters, they serve amazing desserts too. Service was excellent. A must visit.

July 2022

Didn’t get chance to eat here, they make it difficult to book or look at a menu. Chain across the entrance, very unwelcoming, had to shout up to ask about booking. Didn’t bother in the end

July 2022

To call Anchorstone Cafe a "cafe' is absurd. A wonderful fish restaurant with excellent food and service.

May 2022

Didn’t use as Just way too expensive for a takeaway therefore unfair to rate in stars below as didn’t use premises

April 2022

Amazing lunches as always, wonderful menu, amazing staff and stunning location. Just sad to see Will and Jasmine leave.

September 2021

Almost don’t want to submit a review so we can keep Anchorstone a secret (however anyone who is in the know, is in the know) ………6 visits here during our recent trip to Devon and we’d have gone every day if we could have. I think that says it all. The Anchorstone & the tram there never ever disappoints!

July 2021

Food was lovely. It is difficult to book though, but highly recommended.

June 2021

A fantastic place for lunch during covid. Completely covered and most welcoming. Book to avoid disappointment!

May 2021

Hired the Lugger for a couple of hours. Lee was a star getting us sorted and I cannot recommend the location enough. Glorious. Professional set up. Walk around from the car park if driving to Dittisham and allow lots of time either side to enjoy the location and FBI...

April 2021

Fantastic food

October 2020

We did get take away from here, but we went in August and they didnt have a booking free until September! So if you do plan to go you need to book well in advance. Take away we did get was fine and service friendly.

September 2020

Excellent as before

August 2020

Excellent for coffee and cake although sadly they were fully booked all week for lunch so I would advise booking well in advance at peak season

August 2019

Unless you want to eat lunch at 1230 its virtually impossible to plan to eat here Putting your name on a list with a hope they call you when they have a table free is not ideal when trying to feed yourselves or your family

April 2019

Excellent. Pity it closed after our second day there.

October 2018

Always amazing, wonderful fresh fish and great staff. Definitely recommend.

September 2018

we have been every year for 7 years! we love the food, it never fails to please. staff polite and have the courtesy to tell you if there is a wait. it is always worth booking if you can but they only take bookings for 12.00, they wont guarantee anything after that

July 2018

We were very lucky in that we did not have to wait too long for a table: I would advise you to make a reservation in advance though as it is so popular. The food and service were excellent and one would be hard-pressed to find fault. We had a lovely table on the outside balcony so were able to enjoy the lovely views. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant is you have a liking for freshly-caught fish: the burger apparently is excellent too!

July 2018

Brilliant situation overlooking the water.. Food was a delight. Good coffee. Will certainly re-visit. Need to book. Very popular.

May 2018

Best food. .5 stars. You will always return there, cooking is fantastic.

October 2017

Love love love this place food amazing, hosting and service excellent and very friendly, location is just beautiful. We travel miles out of our way to visit the Anchor stone Cafe. Frequent diners.

I was hungry. But the FBI pizza was the best I have ever had. Seriously good. And a pint of the FBI was perfect. As for the location, get there before the sun dips behind the hill and you are rewarded. Top pub.

Lovely food and great place to watch world go buy. More restricted menu due to covid, but otherwise great.

Great local pub in a stunning location. Always busy, good food at reasonable prices with a friendly, relaxed, buzzing atmosphere. Definitely book if you want food.

August 2019

Great food great views and friendly staff. It is very tidal here and some locals park their cars on the beach but it’s a race when the tide comes in. Good stopping off point after the return ferry trip from Dartmouth but book in advance if you want a table as they are very popular

April 2019

Went on a Thursday evening for the quiz night and food. Tasty food and friendly staff and fun quiz.

October 2018

A lovely atmosphere here and very friendly staff. We did not eat here although the food did look very good and not over-priced: best to book tables in advance. Fun to sit outside on the tables or the pontoon and just chat to visitors and locals.

July 2018

Simply brilliant! Food is hearty and delicious but booking advisable due to the limited number of tables. The beer and cider on offer go down a treat and Thursday's quiz night is great fun! Alternatively just sit outside with a good pint and watch the world go by! Dog and child friendly too !

October 2022

Fabulous, friendly pub - very nice menu and dog friendly

June 2022

Nice friendly pub that allows dogs (always a plus). Prices have increased substantially since pre lockdown visit and whilst the fish and chips where very good the Sunday lunch left a lot to be desired and very poor value at 17.50. Cheaper and better elsewhere.

A National Trust property and former holiday home of Agatha Christie, Greenway House gives an extraordinary glimpse into the life and sanctuary of one of the UK’s best loved authors. The inspiration for much of her writing, the house is also brimming with interesting artefacts, archaeological finds, botanical china and books to give a glimpse through the eyes of a spectacular creative mind, before heading into the café for a spot of lunch and a good cup of tea.

The House and Gardens and their location are outstanding. And the journey by ferry from Dartmouth just adds to the overall experience.

October 2023

Wonderful day out. Went by ferry from Dartmouth, worth doing this rather than driving and having to book a parking space. Quite a trek from the house down to the boathouse, but worth it - a very knowledge guide. In fact, knowledgeable guides in the main house too. We wanted to stay and have lunch but it was very busy, all tables full and on the day we went, the card machine was playing up, resulting in a 40 minutes queue to order food. Hence we took the ferry back to Dartmouth and had a late lunch there. Still worth visiting.

September 2023

Loved this house. Would loved to have been a house guest 'back in the day'.

August 2023

Well worth a visit and then walking to Dartmouth - was a great day out

May 2023

I super property to visit. Travelled by passenger ferry from Dittisham. Lovely walks around the garden as well as a very interesting house.

September 2022

Agatha Christie's holiday home. Easy to access on the boat. Excellent place to visit and very interesting. Nice walk around the property to the boat house.

August 2022

A really interesting place to visit, beautiful gardens. Thoroughly recommend visiting via boat along the river Dart.

August 2022

Would recommend a visit if you’re a big fan of Agatha Christie. Loved walking through the house and listening to the old fashioned music, was waiting for Miss Marple or Poirot to walk in. Recommend booking car space before going. It’s a long walk to entrance so need to think about mobility issues. But we were able to drop passengers off and go back to space. Lovely day out

June 2022

Wonderful NT property. So lovely to be able to touch items too! Beautiful grounds. Great trip on the boat from Dartmouth.

April 2022

very interesting house and garden. I felt the experience would have been improved with more information boards around the property. I recommend reading a book about the house and Agatha Christie/her family before you visit. Loved getting there on the ferry from Dittisham.

October 2021

lovely house and gardens down to the boat house, nice touch are the deck chairs on the lawn, lovely patio area for refreshments, approached on foot from Kingswear its a lovely walk through Longwood

September 2021

One of our most enjoyable days in South Devon: do take the ferry from Dartmouth, it's a lovely trip . The gardens are wonderful and the house enjoyable but sadly little information about the history of the house is given and there is no detail about the rooms one can visit.

September 2021

A lovely place to visit, enjoyed the house history and the fabulous gardens overlooking the water. Nice addition to access over the water from Dittisham but note that the water taxi stops before the house closes.

July 2021

Visited greenway house via the ferry , a very pleasurable day out

June 2021

Stunning house and fabulous gardens. The most beautiful views to the Dart. We caught the ferry from Dittisham which was amazingly convenient and a lovely way to arrive.

May 2021

Enjoyed arriving by boat and walking round the grounds, and then back on the Dart trail to Kingswear. Excellent coffee, and NT shop staff were very helpful. Didn't find the house as interesting as we imagined.

September 2020

A lovely place giving a real feel of the life of its previous owner. One of my favourite NT places. Can be reached by ferry or train. Makes a peaceful and relaxed day out in any weather.

August 2019

Lovely boat trip to this property, fairly steep climb up but there is a car available to drive you up there should you need it. Cafe very slow to serve and the queues were outside the restaurant .....so go in good weather Property and gardens a little disappointing.

What an amazing place, easy to get to from Dittisham. The nicest National Trust place we have visited! Pop down to the boat house to meet the bank voles!

August 2018

One of the best NT houses we have visited. Absence of roped of areas in the rooms made it possible to immerse oneself in Agatha Christie's world

May 2018

Excellent and dogs welcomed into the garden as well. Beautiful house and gardens and location stunning. Enjoyed by all ages.

Broadsands Beach
(4 miles)

In between Brixham and Paignton, this long, sandy beach is a popular spot with families, thanks to its sheltered waters, year-round facilities and easy parking. The Blue Flag beach is perfect for making sandcastles and searching for wildlife in the rockpools. There are toilets, and two places to get ice creams, coffees and soft drinks. What’s more, the car park is right by the beach, so there’s no need to lug your provisions a long way. Behind the pretty row of colourful beach huts, there’s a large grassy area, so don’t forget to pack a ball or rounders bat to keep the whole family entertained. Broadsands Beach is a popular dog walking spot throughout autumn and winter, but there is a seasonal dog ban during the summer months (1st May - 30th September).

Elberry Cove
(4 miles)

(1)

Far from the bustling crowds of Paignton and Brixham’s bigger beaches, this small pebbly cove is a truly relaxing spot. The calm waters are great for swimming and are said to have been one of Agatha Christie’s favourite bathing spots. Elberry Cove even features in one of her crime thriller novels, The ABC Murders. This picture-perfect cove, surrounded by sloping wooded hillsides and crystal clear water, can only be accessed by the coast path, with the nearest carpark at Broadsands Beach. From here, it is only a 10 - 15 minute walk, but make sure to pack a picnic or grab a bite to eat at Broadsands Beach before you set off, as there aren’t any facilities at here. Dogs are welcome on the beach throughout the year.

Lovely quieter beach, dog and BBQ friendly. We had teens that hired kayaks from nearby Broadsands beach and paddled around the coast to meet us. Very accomodating kayak hire and not too expensive.

Blackpool Sands
Blackpool Sands
(4 miles)

(35)

Between Dartmouth and Slapton, Blackpool Sands is a beautiful shingle bay on the South West Coast Path, surrounded by evergreens and pine trees. It really is a treasure of a beach to visit while you’re in the area. Award-winning, the privately owned, blue flag beach boasts a sense of being in the Mediterranean on a good day in the summer, although a good jumper never goes amiss in this part of the world! You will no doubt not be surprised to hear that it is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, however it also boasts ample facilities and things to do. There are showers, toilets and disabled facilities, as well as paddle board, kayak and wetsuit hire available for those wishing to earn their visit to The Venus Beach Café, where light bites and refreshments are served. The Venus Shop also sells all the bits and pieces you might want for fun and games on the beach if you have forgotten them or are in need of extra buckets and spades. The water at Blackpool Sands is known for being clean and clear and tested by the Environment Agency, and lifeguards are on hand in the summer (July to September) so there’s every reason to pop in for a dip. However, dogs are not allowed on the beach in the high season (12th March to 30th October) so keep the walking for the cooler months. There is parking available at the beach with seasonal charges, and you can find out more information on those from the Blackpool Sands information line on 01803 771800. This beach is easy to get to and quite literally fun and games for the whole family, as well as a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year to take in the view!

Visited Blackpool sands on our honeymoon 27 years ago and have enjoyed it on both occasions. A lovely clean beach with a very nice restaurant/cafe. We walked to the beach and got the local bus back up to Stoke Fleming.

May 2023

we love this beach always clean good parking clean facilities and good cafe.

September 2022

We did go to this beach, couldn’t go in the sea as it was so rough, was beautiful though. No sand, but still very nice.

September 2022

Beautiful beach; very blue water. It’s more a pebbly rather than a sandy beach, love it all the same. It’s clean and there are lifeguards in the summer months which is when we visited. The toilets were clean and not far from the beach; no queues for the toilet either. Parking can be a bit pricey at £9 for the whole day of you come in the morning but didn’t mind it. You pay less though if you come in the afternoon. The is a little sandpit area for a any kids who want to play in sand

September 2022

It is a really beautiful beach although, despite its name, it is not a sandy beach, however our son and grandson were keen on paddle boarding. They made a special visit for this and were told that the paddleboard facilities were closed but to come the following day when the facilities were still closed! Considering that this was during the height of the holiday season, my son was a bit put out having made two wasted trips.

August 2022

A lovely beach, stunning veiw as you drive down towards it. Very clean with clear water.

August 2022

Lovely clean beach although very quiet. There was a small charge for parking.

August 2021

May 2021

Great beach

November 2020

Lovely sandy beach. Parked here (£2) whilst doing a circular walk and then returned for a walk along the beach.

November 2020

Dogs allowed on beach out of season, a bracing walk with coffee and millionaire shortbread at the cafe to finish.

October 2020

Great beach really beautiful , even in the rain, as the Venus café is right on the beach and is warm, dry and serves great food and drinks at reasonable prices.

October 2019

One of our favourite beaches, in a beautiful setting. Plenty of car parking and plenty of room on the beach, even on a busy day. The sea is clean and clear and the facilities are excellent (nice to have changing rooms). Thoroughly recommend this beach.

October 2019

Beautiful stretch of shingle beach nestled between steep hills at either end. Excellent facilities including one of the best beach cafes we've ever visited.

September 2019

We had a wonderful day at Blackpool sands. A shingle beach within a lovely cove, it was clean and felt safe for the children to swim in the water (which was also sparkling). The beach is privately run, so the carpark fee was a bit stiff (£8 for the day), however the upside of this was a beautifully clean beach with lots of amenities, including rental of SUPs and other water equipment, a great cafe, and really clean loos. On a busy day you would need to arrive before lunchtime, or the carpark will shut, but this also means that the beach didn't feel crowded at all.

September 2019

Parking charge between £3 - £8 depending on time of year, Also food good but e.g. Hawaiian Prawns (£9) consisted of 5 prawns. Not good value for money.

October 2018

Lovely beach, not sandy but the stones are okay. Good food, beverages, coast guards, Nice view and not so cowded

August 2018

Lovely clean beach in super location along coastal road. Great place to visit.

August 2017

Beautiful location but shame it a shingle beach and not sandy. Also very disappointed with the £8 fee to park the car .

August 2017

Perfect venue for a sunny day! Secluded beach which is clean and tidy, with a cafe, snack bar and shop, beach equipment hire too

July 2017

The cost of the parking steep

Churston Cove
(5 miles)

If you’re willing to venture off the beaten track, you’ll discover one of Brixham’s hidden gems, Churston Cove. Surrounded by sloping wooded hillsides, this beautiful little cove isn’t the easiest to get to, which makes it an idyllic, peaceful place to while away the day. The crystal clear water is safe for kids to paddle and play in, and is a popular swimming spot. Parking is available at Freshwater carpark, a 15-minute walk away. There are no toilet facilities or cafes, and the beach is accessed via a long, steep path, which is uneven in places, but this beautiful little cove is worth the effort. Churston Cove is dog-friendly all year round.

Fishcombe Cove
(5 miles)

(1)

Take the coast path from Brixham and escape the crowds at Fishcombe Cove, a peaceful shingle cove, protected on all sides by tall red cliffs. Access to this little cove isn’t easy, via a steep path from Freshwater carpark, but it is definitely worth the effort. The clear, blue sea is sheltered and calm, making it a favourite with swimmers and kayakers. Fishcombe Cove is also a popular place for boats and yachts to moor up and make the most of the beautiful water. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a seal popping its head up to say hello. There is a café and toilets here, but both are only open during the summer months. Fishcombe Cove is dog-friendly all year round.

A lovely little cove perfect to have a dip in the ocean. Be warned though that there is a steep downward hill to get to it and it is a rocky beach so there is plenty of slippery seaweed around. It is nice and sheltered and wasn't too busy either so a great place to get your feet wet or to go for a swim. Would recommend :-)

July 2022

June 2022

We had a great time at the farmhouse. The views from the house are beautiful. The garden is very secure and large. Our dog didn’t know what to do with all that space. We only saw the owners on the first day but it was reassuring to know they were close by if we needed anything. Very spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Recommend Dittisham as it’s a lovely spot to just sit and relax. Dartmouth is a must, but be warned hard to park as so popular, recommend going early in the day. Also stop off at the local pub called Sportsman’s Arms, only a 10minute drive and the food is very good. Would definitely recommend The farmhouse and can’t wait to come back again

March 2022

Marvellous stay. The cottage was spotless and in excellent condition. The owners live in the converted barn next door and left us alone to our stay. We had a problem with the kettle which was replaced straight away without question. Large secure field-like garden at the rear that our pup loved. Fantastic views to the river Dart and beyond. High quality furnishings and warm and cosy in February.

July 2021

The owners who greeted us on arrival where very friendly and helpful and gave us tips about the area. The views from the property are stunning. A range of supermarkets for provisions are a couple of miles away so overall it makes for a great holiday

Brilliant location, lovely house and perfect for the part of Devon we wanted to visit.

May 2021

We had a lovely stay with a great welcome. Rooms spacious, furnishings comfortable, no problems with the wifi when we used it and we loved the provision of DVD's as still restricted by Covid rules. Owners friendly and chatty without being intrusive.

March 2019

It was our 5th stay and we had a great time. Our favourite holiday destination.

March 2019

Wifi would be a good improvement.

January 2019

We were met with a warm welcome and shown around the farmhouse. It was really warm and cozy and we were supplied with enough wood and coal to have a fire every evening when we returned from exploring the area. We have stayed in many cottages and this had everything we required and more. The farmhouse is in a lovely spot with great views across the countryside. It is in a very quite position and we really enjoyed our stay over the New Year. Our dog loved being able to be outside in the large fully enclosed garden - not having to worry about the dog was a real bonus.

December 2018

We had a wonderful time on our 4th visit to this property and have booked again for next year.

November 2018

Love staying at Foxenhole, 6th visit now and throughly enjou returning every year. Thanks

September 2018

A most relaxing stay at Foxenhole Farmhouse, we have no complaints regarding the accomodation at all. However, one general criticism is that we were most disappointed to find that Dittisham village is set on an extremely steep hill with no parking near to the quay area - As we had travelled with my 86 year old mother who has limited mobility it meant visits to the quay area were extremely difficult, perhaps a statement on your website advising of the very steep hill would be a good idea. Regards, Steve Wiseman.

August 2018

We really loved our stay at Foxenhole Farmhouse, The owners Elaine and Doug were very welcoming, helpful and not at all intrusive. The location is amazing, sitting high on a hill with views which were breathtaking. Our grandchildren particularly loved the chess set which kept them amused. We found an excellent crabbing spot off the pontoon at Dittisham, which is a delightful villAge. The Anchorstone cafe sell bait at £2 a bag which is very handy. We tried our hand at horse riding at Babeny Riding Centre on Dartmoor, this was an amazing experience and we really recommend it. Overall Foxenhole Farmhouse had everything we wanted, comfort, cleanliness, in a perfect location. Thanks again Elaine and Doug.

August 2018

We really enjoyed the location and fabulous views. Owners were very welcoming and not intrusive, cottage has everything you need. It is a perfect base for the local area, we would definitely choose Foxenhole again when we visit the area in the future.

July 2018

we had a fabulous stay. we will be back! for the 7th time!!

July 2018

Fantastic place to stay, beautiful part of the country. Such welcoming owners and i would recommend to everyone that toad hall and especially Foxenhole is perfect for your dog friendly places to stay..

June 2018

Your website should make it clear that the owners live right next door and that the house is not therefore as isolated as we were led to believe. A little misleading. Also we chose this house as it was "dog friendly" but wereven informed on arrival that dogs must not be left on their own in the property, even though there was a utility room with dog beds in it. That really restricted our movements as we would not normally take the dogs absolutely everywhere with us. In fact my son drove all the way back to the Midlands after two days in the house to bring his dog back home to stay with friends, and then drove all the way back to Devon!! That kind of restriction should be made clear upon booking.

We're sorry that you felt we should have pointed out the owners proximity. In fairness they are very experienced in hosting guests and always respect their privacy. Most guests appreciate that there's someone on hand to advise and help if required. Also, we can't see any reference in our description to it being 'isolated', so sorry if you got that impression. With regards to leaving dogs alone in the house, that restriction is in our booking terms and conditions and we find kindest for dogs that can be unhappy about being left alone in unknown surroundings and as a result either bark all day or cause internal damage. We hope that despite these concerns you still enjoyed your holiday.

- The Toad Hall Team

May 2018

The owners were very welcoming and obliging.

April 2018

We were welcomed by our friendly hosts, who gave us a guided tour. Everything was clean, and we felt at home straight away. We will definitely consider returning.

April 2018

We had a lovely time despite the changeable weather. Would definitely like to visit again.

March 2018

The Owners, Elaine and Doug, checked that we were okay during our stay. This was particularly relevant as we were Snowed In between our arrival on the Saturday and the Tuesday morning !!!! Good Luck with the new premises in Wadebridge - which happens to be our home town.

October 2017

Highly recommended. A very warm welcome from Elaine and Doug.

September 2017

lovely and clean, plenty of kitchen equipment. beautiful views and spacious accommodation. the owners were very friendly but not intrusive, there were flowers in the house and to our surprise another two vases were left in the porch for the following week which we thought was lovely. would definitely like to come back and stay in this delightful place again.

July 2017

Lovely farmhouse & garden with fabulous views. Owners very helpful charming couple. Thoroughly recommend it.

June 2017

We did enjoy our stay at Foxenhole farmhouse and would consider returning in the future. We loved the location and the views and sunsets were wonderful. The owners,Doug and Elaine were very nice and friendly, also the scaffolding did'nt really bother us. I thanked them for our stay there; they even brought us wine and chocolates as compensation for putting up with the scaffolding!

May 2017

The accommodation was perfect for our needs. Location handy for shopping, plenty of local facilities. Highly recommended.

May 2017

We had a lovely time at Foxenhole and can not wait to go again.

May 2017

all fine - a perfect break

April 2017

Foxenhole is an excellent base for either a couple or a family holiday. Should you require to eat out there are two pubs in Dittsham, the Red Lion and the FBI, also the Sportsman at the top of the lane. There are also more than a few restaurants in Dartmouth. Owners were helpful but not intrusive, also the locals in Dittsham! where all very friendly (some better for the knowing!) Beautiful area of the country, as are all the areas both in and on the periphery of the South Hams. Most places we visited in the fortnight were 'dog friendly' the one notable exception being Buckfast Abbey, NO dogs allowed.

April 2017

We had a great week at Foxenhole. The cottage and location are wonderful.

March 2017

It was our fourth stay at Foxenhole. We enjoyed lots of beautiful walks in the viscinity. The accommodation is very comfortable and an ideal place to bring a dog.

October 2016

The property is in a perfect location, is lovely and spacious and exceptionally clean with stunning views from every window. Extremely pleasant, helpful owners. Would definitely recommend and we look forward to returning.

February 2016

Extremely pleasant cottage owners, who are nearby. Some work was needed on the boiler whilst we there, but they very respectful and didn't want to disturb our break (which they didn't). The fish and chip van stops in the lay-by on the road on Wednesdays. I've never tasted fish so fresh (but I am from the Midlands).

October 2015

We loved our stay at Foxenhall. It is wonderful for humans and dogs alike, and we will certainly go back there again one day. Lovely view, lovely PEACEFUL friendly house, incredible well situated. Very nice owners. We rattled around in it a bit, being justy the two of us. It is a sociable house. Great for a party of four or five, or even six.

August 2015

Have just returned from Foxenhole. Wonderful spacious farmhouse and spotlessly clean. Views from house and garden spectacular. Location excellent. Have re-booked for next year.

The farmhouse was everything and more that we wanted. Very clean on arrival and plenty of space for our family of four. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the location was fantastic. I honestly could not say one bad comment about this place.

November 2014

A lovely cottage, spacious especially as there was only 2 of us staying with our dogs. Lovely large gardens, back and front and in an ideal situation for Dartmouth and the surrounding area. Owners were there to greet us and to say goodbye the evening before we left and were very friendly. The cottage was really warm with a huge fire in the lounge awaiting our arrival, a lovely touch and very welcoming.

September 2014

Very happy with our stay in the cottage which was immaculately clean and in a wonderful location for all the local beauty spots. The garden was wonderful and our dog thoroughly enjoyed it. The owners were helpful and friendly and the vases of flowers in the cottage were lovely. Also the views from the garden across the countryside to the coast were utterly amazing.

May 2014

We had a great holiday staying at Foxenhole Farmhouse. The accommodation is very spacious; modern and clean in an excellent location overlooking the Dart estuary. Foxenhole Farmhouse is a great place to stay to explore the Dart estuary and surrounding area.

April 2014

we had a wonderful holiday at Foxenholes,by far the best accommodation we have stayed in. The owners greeted us with an open log fire, and checked everything was ok during the stay. They made us feel very welcome, and we will certainly try to fit in another visit during the winter or spring offers. We took some amazing photos, and will post them to you.

December 2013
