The traditional fishing village of Polperro, set along the dramatic South Cornish coastline between Looe and Fowey, is steeped in maritime history. Wandering its pretty, narrow, winding streets offers a nostalgic taste of times gone by.
For centuries local families here were reliant on “Polperro pilchards” which were sold right across Europe. Nowadays, there is still an active fishing fleet but their catch is more varied. You can sample their wares in a number of local restaurants, pubs and cafes, or simply sit back and watch the fishermen at work in the harbour as you tuck into a fresh crab sandwich.
Polperro has an abundance of small, twisting lanes, most of which are simply not wide enough for modern vehicles. Some are little wider than footpaths, so leave your car in the main car park at Crumplehorn and from here you can walk, catch the bus or even take a horse and cart the half mile down into the village. The traffic-free zones allow you to explore the winding alleys of whitewashed fishermen’s cottages at your leisure.
It’s easy to imagine the hustle and bustle of people with loaded horse & carts rumbling past during Polperro’s smuggling heyday, or the scores of ladies lining the streets nimbly knitting fishermen’s jumpers, known locally as “knit-frocks”. On the harbour-side you can visit the Polperro Heritage Museum of Fishing and Smuggling to immerse yourself more fully in Polperro’s rich history.
The village and harbour are best seen at high tide, but at low tide, a small beach appears so it’s possible to go for a paddle. The picturesque South West Coast Path runs right through the Polperro. If you walk east along the coast you’ll reach the beautiful Talland Bay, or alternatively hop in your car to visit other nearby sandy beaches including Seaton, Downderry, Lansallos and Lantic Bay. Regular boat trips run from the harbour offering fantastic views of the coastline and day trips to nearby Looe, and you might even spot dolphins and seals on your way!
A holiday cottage in Polperro offers a wonderfully traditional seaside escape on the dramatic South East Cornish coast.

Went twice -Good food, however staff could be friendlier, one waitress just plonked the tray on our table without any eye contact , smile or words , - and didn’t seem bothered us having to leave the first time due to us having no cash on us , so make sure you have cash available as cards only excepted if you spend £15 , very annoying , The best bit is the fabulous location overlooking the harbour

June 2022
Ordered a seafood platter as wanted to try the locally sourced fish. I love all fish, but this was Truly awful. Couldn't taste the fish for the garlic over everything. The breadcrumb was so lightly fried, it was soggy. When the waitress came over and noticed the almost untouched meal, she asked if I enjoyed it. I said I didnt and told her why. She said 'I will pass on your feedback and left, no 'sorry about that's , nothing. Tried a seafood platter in another pub and it was amazing. Very disappointed in the Blue Peter.

December 2021
Absolutely fantastic , food was incredible, staff couldn’t do enough for you , it’s such a difficult place to find an evening table as you cannot pre book a table , but staff were happy to take a telephone no and call you as soon as a table became available, and that’s every night , even in October !! Having eaten their I now understand why they are inundated with bookings . Even with food allergies they went above and beyond to help , advise and swap for different ingredients, fabulous.

Lovely quirky pub with harbour wall seating. We didn’t eat here but found drinks ambience and service great.
September 2021
Unfortunately not for us. After our first visit we never went back. When an establishment has other scrumptious eateries/restaurants within a few meters it really needs to up its game in the food department.
September 2021
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service. Lovely pub!
August 2021
Very lazy unhelpful staff. Asked to sit on a vacant table outside for either a drink or food at 8.20pm and was told they needed to close the tables down so we could not. I asked what time they closed outside tables and was told 9pm. They offered no alternative and were not at all interested in us but more interested in talking between themselves and closing early. I felt as though I was interrupting them.

December 2019
We ate here 3 times in the week we were in Polperro. Very pleasant staff, child-friendly and most importantly beautiful food. The crab on ciabatta is the stand out dish, try it with a glass of local scrumpy, but it's all delicious. I've no idea how they achieve what they do in that teeny tiny kitchen!

June 2018
Our favourite pub in the whole of Cornwall, we frequent it most nights on our weeks holiday each year and eat there at least twice a week and have never had a bad meal. The only problem with the Blue Peter it isn't big enough for when there is music on and gets very crowded but apart from that a brilliant pub and the bar staff who have been there a few years are lovely and friendly.

August 2023
A lovely pub with excellent food. The staff are friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of outside space for busy periods in the summer. The no booking policy is a tad annoying but I can see why they do it that way. We returned for another meal as we loved it so much.
August 2023
Nice location . Meal so so
August 2023
Fabulous little pub restaurant at the heart of the harbour. Food plentiful and delicious. Fantastic tiered garden with amazing views of the harbour and village.
July 2023
Lovely beer garden and the only pub you can sit outside and see the sea and most of Polperro. Was shocked at the prices when we arrived , the most expensive in the village. £13.85 for a pint of real ale and a 175 ml glass of wine are London prices. We did have a Chicken Caesar salad there one night which was good and all the food looked good but putting the new bar upstairs has meant they have put their prices up a lot.
May 2023
Great food with amazing views from the terraces. Staff very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit

We had a great meal here during our stay.

August 2022
Beautiful view for a drink in the beer garden.
August 2022
What a lovely place to stop, refresh and watch the world go by. The bar at the top offers spectacular views and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Food is excellent and they even allow your dogs in. Perfect. We will be back ?

November 2021
Stayed in Polperro Oct.9th-16th.2021,ate in Three Pilchards three times food excellent, steak and ale pie to die for one portion enough for two,but managed to fight my way through it,would have been rude not to,service also first class.
October 2021
Great food, well priced, really lovely staff but tables are allocated on a first come, first served basis so get there early!
October 2021
Probably the gem of polperro due to the quality of the food and its hidden raised beer garden giving fantastic views over the harbour. Limited indoor seating makes it imperative to turn up early for dinner as they dont take bookings, but operate a 'waiting list' call back service which seems to work well enough. But be warned, myself and my wife turned up at 5:20 pm on a Monday evening and there was already a list with 13 names waiting for a table. However, this is testament to the quality of the food!! A must visit.
September 2021
We had lunch today at this delightful pub in Polperro. We decided to go for a light bite which turned out to be a wise choice , only because the size of the meals on the main menu would have defeated us . Food was very good and excellent value for money . Staff were on the ball at all times . Would definitely return
September 2021
We loved the Pilchards. Everything great about the pub. Great staff, great food, garden over looks the harbour. You don’t need to book, just jog up and if no tables you get added to the waiting list and an idea of how long you’ll wait, so go and sit in the garden and enjoy pre drinkies! What’s not to like!
September 2021
Had a lovely meal in this pub. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food very reasonable. Highly recommend

What a bonus to have this pub a stones throw from the cottage. Great welcoming and friendly staff, well run and absolute bonus of a roof top terrace which, as we had wonderful weather, we took great advantage of and the food was superb.

Really good service here. All good that came out looked delicious. Our favourite was the very generous fish pie. Kids fish and chips was huge and very tasty. Scallop and prawn combo a little disappointing, not much flavour and they wouldn't let the kids take the scallop shells with them!

I thought the service very poor in here. i was the only person sitting at the bar with my partner and with three members of staff available, i waited politely for 5 minutes before asking is anybody serving. The young lad turned round to and responded "I could be" the food was ok
August 2018
Another one of Polperro's gems, great seafood, excellent ale and superb service, thanks to all.
June 2018
Superb food!! Best food we had in polperro.
June 2018
Loved this pub on our first visit and definitely weren’t disappointed second time round. Fantastic food, staff and service we went in everyday, would definitely recommend as a must when visiting Polperro
June 2018
We couldn't leave Polperro without eating at 'The Three Pilchards', whose name alone conjures up the impression of a very old, quaint smuggling pub, (which is exactly what it is). The fact they serve a fantastic fish pie and fresh seafood dishes in a comfortable, friendly environment was a bonus ... but don't expect a dessert - (not that you'd be able to manage one).
May 2018
We highly recommend The Three Pilchards as "The place to eat and drink"...beautifully prepared dishes...the seafood was absolutely delicious. Fish Pie was 5*. The outdoor area was great to sit in and very dog friendly. Staff all so welcoming and hardworking. Fabulous!
May 2018
Disappointed in the Pilchards. Food was expensive and staff a bit off hand. Used to be great but seems to have changed hands.
May 2018
Great people, Great food

April 2018
Great food and lovely people. Nice pub garden looking out over the village.
April 2018
The Three Pilchards is my favourite Cornish pub. In good weather, the roof terrace has lovely views over Polperro and must be recommended. In winter, the log burning fire is a brilliant comforter. The beer and food are excellent. On my most recent visit to Cornwall I had lunch there on two days. On the first day I had game pie with roasted root vegetables including beetroot, carrot and parsnip. The pie was a proper, free standing, shortcrust pie - not a small dish with a puff pastry crust. It was brilliant. On the second visit, I had crab bisque to warm me up followed by crab salad. Polperro is a clear choice for seafood. The owners, staff and pub dog are friendly and welcoming. The pub itself is dog friendly. I don’t think I’d visit the area without calling in at the Three Pilchards at least once.
March 2018
Great pub with amazing food and a warm welcome from all the staff. Definitely worth a visit if you're in polperro
February 2018

May 2017
Lovely food, brilliant, welcoming people! Thank you
May 2017
Lovely pub. Excellent service and food. Very friendly staff.
May 2017
No desserts? I understand the comment in the menu but I prefer a main and a dessert. I am afraid there was no where on a Sunday night in March for me to go elsewhere and buy even an ice cream. I may have stayed and spent another £10 at least if I could have had a dessert and a coffee. The food I had was fine.

Polperro Museum
(Less than a mile)
(14)
In The Warren overlooking the harbour, the Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing houses a collection of exhibits and 19th century photographs that date back to a time when both smuggling and fishing thrived in Polperro. It brings to life the little village’s beautiful history and the lives of the people who lived there, having depended on fishing for generations and been home to no less than three factories close by at one point. A delightful opportunity for children and adults alike to learn about local history in this little Cornish village, entry is £1.75 for adults and 50p for children.
Very interesting museum. Well worth a visit
August 2023
Very informative hour spent in the museum. Would recommend Cafe is lovely
July 2023
Great museum with interesting local history. Definitely worth a visit whilst in Polperro.

Really informative and interesting journey of smuggling through the ages
May 2023
Great attraction full of great local history and artifacts. Well worth a visit.

September 2021
This is a great little, un-fancy museum with loads of information. It's worth spending time there.
September 2019
Great! And dog friendly!Worth a look and the tea rooms were great.
July 2019
I love a bit of local history and if your like minded, you'll enjoy this place. lots of information on the local boats and fishermen. it would take you a while to read it all.
August 2018
Well worth visiting to get a feel and understanding of how the once thriving community of Polperro used to be in former pilchard fishing (and smuggling) days. The old photos and exhibits transport you back to a very different world (though adults will undoubtedly find the museum more interesting than small children).
May 2018
This museum is packed with interesting facts and some great photos, so even though small we spent a good hour there. Definitely worth a visit to learn more on the local history (including about the more recent floods and storms), fishy facts and smuggling tales!

Polperro Model Village
(Less than a mile)
(8)
An utterly charming day out for the family, Polperro Model Village and Land of Legend is two attractions in one. The village is, quite literally, the coastal town in miniature and has been around for more than 60 years, surviving both fire and floods – so don’t underestimate the strength of these little guys. Meanwhile, Land of Legend is your chance to explore Cornish folklore, derived from tales of pirates and smugglers who thrived in and around Cornwall from the early modern period through to the 19th century. It is a unique show of lights, sound and animation. The site also houses a model railway, and prices are £3 for adults and £2 for children, open daily from Easter to October.
A lovely attraction for Polperro. Very well thought out and created.
July 2022
Very interesting
July 2022
Lovely little attraction. We were keen to support local businesses so popped in here.
May 2022
Brilliant fun and interesting place to visit
June 2021
This attraction is much more than just a model village. We really loved it.
June 2021
Great value for money. Worth a visit.
September 2020
Disappointed not open
July 2020
Good attraction for young children rather than older children and adults. The miniature village and Land of Legend are charming (though perhaps a little 'worn' by modern standards). There is an interesting audio/visual on the Polperro floods of 1976 and 1993 and a separate small model railway.

Polperro Beach
(Less than a mile)
(22)
In South East Cornwall, Polperro is widely thought to be one of the area’s most picturesque fishing villages. Brimming with whitewashed cottages all the way down the harbour, the beach sits in a sheltered position under the cliffs, only visible at low tide and close to the harbour. Unsurprisingly, it’s a popular destination and can get busy in the summer months. Dogs are not permitted at the beach during peak season, from Easter to October, and while parking in the village itself is all but impossible, but there’s a large car park about a mile up the valley with a regular shuttle service going up and down the hill.
Just beautiful??
November 2023
We have visited The Blue Peter many times on our holidays to Polperro over the past 20 year or more. There is always a warm and friendly welcome from the staff. The food is excellent. This is a proper pub.
July 2023
beautiful little cove -- just watch the tide times ..........
August 2022
We didn't really use the beach but I did see someone allow their dog to foul on the beach and, although they cleared it up to a certain extent, I don't think this is really acceptable when children are going to be playing in the sand.
June 2022
Lovely small beach
June 2022
Fabulous
September 2021
Lovely small beach very clean with beautiful views
July 2021
Great beach.
June 2021
Polperro a beautiful place , a lovely fishing village
May 2021
The most beautiful little cove featuring caves to explore and the 'net loft' out on the rugged rocks. The sea is a divine colour and I can't wait to come back and swim at a warmer time of year! I enjoyed two mornings in the sun and the peace of being out there first thing exploring this little beach area, it was a great start to those days!
May 2021
This Is a glorious, quaint fishing village with narrow winding alleys and a beautiful little harbour. It is more suited to couples rather than families as there are not many facilities for children, other than a small beach at low tide.
September 2020
Perfect . Love love love
August 2020
The children enjoyed exploring the caves and beachcombing when the tide was out, too many dogs off the lead but it was out of season. Main reason for leaving the review is to strongly recommend you take the two hour fishing trip with either Chris or Olly Puckey on the Smuggler. We had the boat to ourselves and had an excellent value for money trip which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Caught 3 mackerel and a pollock which we took back to the cottage and cooked for tea. A delight! Oh, and we went for brunch afterwards at House on the Props - definitely recommended, I've never had a full English on a baguette before, it was awesome!
October 2019
Our favourite place to visit with wonderful little shops, restaurants and art galleries to browse in on the walk down to the quay. Amazing views as you leave the village and head on the coastal cliff path back towards Looe. We took our dog and he enjoyed exploring the numerous rock pools on the beach. We also explored the right hand coastal path and stumbled across a secluded pool amongst the rocks - steep ascent but well worth the hike! People were bathing in the pool as it was a real sun trap..
August 2019
Small but lovely
May 2019
Beautiful beach if you love beach combing.
April 2019
Easy access, dog ok
October 2018
We visited Polperro harbour/beach with our springer spaniel and although the write-up says no dogs allowed, they are allowed, just on a lead between 10am and 6pm, although beach is small, the sea is safe to swim in and not full of huge rocks, lovely ????
August 2018
Lovely clean small beach.
May 2018
Polperro is a magic place. It is so pretty with its winding streets and old cottages and the harbour with its fishing boats. The residents are so friendly and welcoming and there’s a wide choice of restaurants and cafes. I particularly recommend Michelle’s for fantastic food and a real welcome. As a woman on my own I dined there, as elsewhere, with no feeling of awkwardness. Breakfast at the House on the Props just unbeatable! Spring is one of the best times to visit for the wonderful coastal walks and the masses of wild flowers. When you visit, think about the parking situation before you go as it needs organising, but many rentable cottages have spaces provided in the main car park and PauI who runs a little motorised transport system for luggage is very helpful and reliable. I am one of the thousands of people who just love Polperro and every time I visit feel a great reluctance to leave.
May 2018
Enjoyed the harbour etc and all the shops but had dogs so did not visit the beach but a beautiful setting.
June 2017
really lovely, a must visit desination.
May 2017
Talland Bay
(Less than a mile)
(16)
A small, quiet beach between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay actually comprises two beaches, one of which has sand both at low and high tide and is good for swimming all the time, while the other is less sandy and is easiest to swim from at high tide. There is a ramp for launching boats from the main beach and there are lots of small coves and tidal pools to swim in as well, so it’s a delightful area to explore in the water. Parking is limited, but there is a small, free car park by the beach and paid parking at The Beach Café, all of which provide easy access to the sand. Thanks to the nearby café, visitors can also benefit from the accompanying facilities, on-site shop, and tuck into Roskillys Cornish Ice-Cream as well.
Sit in the graveyard on the bill and look down to Talland bay. Tranquillity so special. I never fail to go there when I am down. The church is beautiful so much history.
October 2023
Having spent many a happy childhood holiday here - 60 years ago, so wonderful to return. It is so beautiful and with addition of 2 Beach cafes - even better now.
June 2023
Beautiful little bay with a great cafe overlooking it. Dogs allowed on the beach Oct to end of May.....
October 2021
Although there was indeed sand in one of the bays it was largely covered with seaweed at the water's edge when we were there. All very natural.
October 2021
Lovely bay, shingle beach
September 2021
Not a great beach and a bit smelly.
August 2021
Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach made it very smelly and also lots of flies. Beautiful apart from that!
June 2021
Lovely walk from polperro along coast. Cafe in picturesque bay pretty with little huts to shelter. Only downside was the coffee not good at all.
May 2021
Beautiful bay. A little smelly from the seaweed but rock pools galore and quiet
October 2020
Very interesting beach with rock pools at low tide and fascinating multi-coloured rocks, great for photography.
October 2019
A lovely place to walk too on the way to Looe. Hard work back up the hill to polperro, bit it's worth it!
October 2018
The coastal walk from Polperro to Talland Bay is outstanding. As both are scenic, (and Talland Bay benefits from an excellent cafe and free toilets), it makes for an excellent morning or afternoon trip in good weather.
May 2018
Lovely beach, beautiful walk from Polperro. Dogs requested to be kept on leads (which I suppose is preferable to a ban!). Families seem to use this beach alot.
May 2018
An interesting beach at low tide and lovely views.
April 2018
Brilliant. Bit seaweedy. Wear beach shoes incase of weever fish stings.
August 2017
Great beach pet friendly beach with rock pools etc for the dogs to explore
June 2017
Looe Beach
(4 miles)
(20)
In East Looe, the beach sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered by the Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat. A good family beach that has something for everyone, at low tide the sandy location is safe for swimming although it’s recommended you steer clear of the river mouth beyond the pier. Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, but Hannafore beach in West Looe is dog friendly. The beach backs on to a seafront walkway which runs its length all the way to Second Beach to the east, where it tends to be less busy and it’s good for snorkeling. As it’s in the centre of the town there are lots of facilities and cafes nearby, but in the summer it’s a very popular spot and parking can be tricky, with traffic prohibited during these months, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.
Some days quite busy but great facilities and loads of activities
August 2023
Great, despite the early season seaweed, the tractor cleared it very well.
April 2023
LOVE LOVE LOVE
July 2022
All of the beaches around Looe are worth visiting - and the coastal path is a must. Fuel for the hike? Not listed in the reviews is Sarah’s Pasties which has the best pasties (we ate a lot of pasties during the week!). They were also one of the few eateries in the area which could provide something for someone needing a gluten and dairy free diet. We were able to preorder pasties that met her dietary requirements.
February 2022
Wonderful beach
December 2021
Safe and sandy beach perfect for kids
August 2021
I enjoyed the beach as it is very flat, which is important at 70, and I even had a paddle. The beach was very clean.
July 2021
One of the best beaches I have visited. It is nice and level and I was even able to have a paddle. It was very clean.
July 2021
Great beach so close all amenities
July 2021
Such a lovely beach. A shame people didn’t socially distance or even attempt to do so.
August 2020
Spent a week at new year in this beautiful apartment. Everything you could possibly need was in there. Lovely comfy bed, spotless clean and the bonus of a sea view. Central for everything. Will definitely return.
January 2020
Wonderful clean beach
October 2019
Perfect for the children but beware of seagulls. We always take a beach tent so children can safely enjoy their food and ice cream!
June 2019
Lovely beach suitable for everyone
June 2019
A wonderful place to sit relax eat an ICECREAM or a pastie, if the seagulls will let you! Perfect beach x
August 2018
You cannot fail to love Looe beach, early morning, during the day or for and evening stroll. A super clean beach.
May 2018
Lovely sandy beach. No dogs allowed but there is a small cove at the far end which allows dogs to enjoy their holiday too with a dip in The English Channel.
May 2018
Looe beach and seafront is cleaned every day (in season?) and looks good. A joy to sit and watch the sea and people passing by.
April 2018
Really good! Good sand and sea. Activities for the kids too. Difficult to get to cos no parking nearby.
August 2017
Lovely beach and even when it was busy didn't feel overcrowded
August 2017
Hannafore Beach
(4 miles)
(9)
Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island. At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position. Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby. It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay. There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space. Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.
Splendid views and dog accessible
July 2022
The best place to unwind

Great for rock pooling

October 2023
I think this our fifth stay at Westhaven, it really is a home from home for us and most definitely our happy place. It is always spotlessly clean with views to die for, and from the moment we arrive we slip straight into the magical bubble that is Polperro. We will return again soon as Westhaven and Polperro have a special place in our hearts.
September 2023
We really enjoyed the views from the cottage and the location was perfect, just a little disappointed with the dirty carpets and stained bedding.
July 2023
We stay in your cottages several times a year. We always enjoy our visits to beautiful Polperro and have been visiting annually, as a couple, for 55 years. Thank you.
July 2023
We have been coming to Polperro for over 20 years. It's beautiful.
June 2023

April 2023
I think you need to mention this property is only suitable for mobile people .Very steep stairs.
February 2023
Not our first time here & as lovely as ever.
November 2022
Yes, we had a fantastic stay and we would love to return to the same cottage. Marvellous location , I just wish we had stayed for 2 weeks rather than 1! When there were some minor snags these were quickly dealt with by the staff at Toad Hall Cottages Office thanks to them. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
September 2022
Wonderful stay, as usual, in Westhaven cottage. We have spent many happy holidays, with family, in this cosy little cottage. Also, the Toad Hall staff are wonderful, if we should need help or advice during our stay.
That's very kind - thank you!

March 2022
We had a lovely stay in Polperro. The views from Westhaven are gorgeous and you can hear the sea from the living room. A shame the WiFi was so slow it might as well have not been provided, but there are plenty of lovely walks from the village and lots of great places to eat. A peaceful, cosy, seaside holiday!

Gave 4 for cleanliness as cobwebs were on lights and beams plus only anti-bacterial cleaners being used, not anti-viral such as Zoflora. Luckily I bought my own and cleaned both shower room and kitchen surfaces myself.
November 2021
We had the best holiday at Westhaven. A gorgeous location with an easy and pretty walk into town. Well equipped house, warm and very comfortable. Great for an exploring base and a home to enjoy during our stay. Highly recommended.
October 2021
We has a wonderful time and thought that the cottage was very comfortable and very clean with lovely furnishings. The information received prior to arrival was very helpful especially directions and parking details. Also on a good location with amazing views. Would highly recommend and look forward to staying there again in the future.
October 2021
Really enjoyed our stay. Have stayed in this cottage numerous times and the view never fails.
September 2021
Wonderful cottage in a perfect location with swimming access literally on the doorstep. Gorgeous views of the inner and outer harbour from the windows. Nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.
September 2021
We had a fantastic stay at Westhaven, the location was perfect, right on the estuary and an easy walk into Kingsbridge. My boys loved the kayak. The property was super clean with even a bouquet of flowers. Lots of little extras to make our holiday simple - tea, coffee, milk, salt, pepper, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc. A great holiday thank you
June 2021
We loved the position and the amazing view!
May 2021
Very please fully equipped.
May 2021
Really good time. Lovely little cottage. It was refreshingly nice to not have to make any extra payments, and the caretaker/cleaner was extremely helpful when I rang her for info before we arrived.

December 2020
Love the location, views and cottage. We spent a lovely week in gorgeous Polperro, locals were friendly. Visited Truro,Looe and Fowie,no problem with the car a walk away. We were warm, comfortable and happy, thank you.
October 2020
We did and will be back next year but don't know dates yet.Keep Safe.
September 2020
We have stayed at Westhaven several times and love it there. This time we had a car parked to the right of the car space at Fish na Bridge which has never been the case before. There is simply not space for another vehicle and made parking in our space almost impossible. We always assumed it was a motorbike space. I have photos of the car as we feared damage may have occurred at any time, either from this extra car or the one to our left whom we had no choice but to squeeze up tight to, so much so that all had major trouble getting in and out of the cars. If this space on the end is permanent we would not be able to choose Westhaven again due to the inappropriateness of allocating the adjacent space when there simply isn’t enough room for one. I can supply photos of the vehicle that parked there all week upon request. Thank you, Mike and Debbie Caple
August 2020
Great location, we have already booked again for next summer
July 2020
We loved our stay in such a beautiful house in a such a tranquil location! We will hopefully return to West Haven. Thank you very much!
February 2020
We had a fabulous time despite the weather and will definitely return The only thing that I would like to suggest is re the car parking I think it should be pointed out in your description that the spot is only suitable for small to medium cars,we have a Ford Focus and we just about managed to get in and out of the car, those with larger cars or 4x4s I think would find it impossible
January 2020
We enjoyed our stay in Westhaven but thought Polperro itself had so much dog mess everywhere we took our two grandchildren and she had a dolly pushchairs which she managed to get dog mess on the wheels every time we went out . We have not got a problem with dogs it's the owners who do not bother to clean up the mess
November 2019
Great location. Having a car park is a big plus.
October 2019
The stay was very enjoyable in a lovely part of Cornwall
October 2019
lovely stay and super little cottage.
September 2019
Lovely cottage and location. Partially blocked shower drain caused water to spill over edge of shower tray. Lack of bath mat very annoying! Mop left in bathroom gave impression that problem with drain known about by owner/ Toad Hall. Didn’t report it as didn’t want to have to wait in for a plumber/ caretaker to visit or have someone there when out, due to our belongings being there.
Thank you for letting us know of the shower problem. Now that we are aware, we will ask the caretaker to investigate the shower drain. We will also mention the sensible idea of a bath mat to the owner.

Enjoyed are stay just need a few more basic things in the kitchen. also black out curtains needed in the twin room as cream curtains no food for children. also a new tv! only a few channels and no dvd player it free view etc. it is tiny.
May 2019
Yes as always except for having to keep buying tea & coffee.
April 2019
Yes we loved our stay and will be back!
October 2018
We had a great stay and would definitely consider coming back
September 2018
We had another fantastic stay in Polperro and experienced great entertainment in the Ship and Blue Peter and excellent food in the many cafes. We were however very shocked at the amount of dog mess that now litter the streets daily. We cannot believe the problem is not being resolved in such a beautiful village. We have visited Polperro for the last 25 years and have noticed a huge decline in the street cleanliness in this matter. Why are people not required to carry poo bags and why are theses ridiculous long leads allowed, the owners are 5 yards in front of there dogs with not a care about what is happening behind them ! ! HUGE NOTICES should be erected on entering at the top car park, demanding cleaning up after your dog and a 'dog warden' would maybe frighten a few people into complying with the rules. Such a beautiful village deserves more respect from these ignorant dog owners.
September 2018
We had a fantastic holiday, cottage was brilliant, sorry I couldn’t clean it like I usually would, but was ill on the Friday night as were a couple of the other guests.
August 2018
yes lovely location very enjoyable
June 2018
Stayed here a number of times. Good value for the price. excellent views.
June 2018
Location perfect! Cottage lacks homely cosy touches. Lounge furniture not particularly comfortable, no small lamps, no DVD, small TV.
June 2018
Wow, where do i start. 1. Amazing location, beautiful cottage couldnt have asked for better. The only problem we found was that the car parking space was very small. We cant wait to book the same cottage in 2020 hopefully.
June 2018
Loved it as usual. We are back in September.
April 2018
Car parking space is really on suitable for a very small car When you park you can not get out of drivers side as no room to open door You have to climb over and exit from passenger side and get in from passenger side and climb over into drivers seat to exit space you need to be fit and nimble I think you need to make this clear to anyone that books this cottage
April 2018
Polperro is a great car free village and most properties are perched around the harbour. Westhaven is situated along the Warren, perfect view and just outside the village (few minutes walk). We couldn't have improved on the location and spent hours sitting on the window seats on all three levels, enjoying the views of the town harbour and sea. The pubs are great, fab food , and everyone was really welcoming. Walks along either side of the South West Coastal Path are up and down cliffs but so worth it! There is a private car park space further up the village which was invaluable. All in all a fab stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.
February 2018
Beautiful, very comfortable cottage in absolutely stunning surroundings. We were delighted with how warm and cosy the cottage was in the middle of February. Loved every minute of staying here. Thank you.

May 2017
I always enjoy my stay in this delightful cottage. Weather wasn't brilliant but even when in you have the most spectacular views so doesn't seem so bad when raining. Polperro is just beautiful whatever the weather. The only difficulty I had was I couldn't connect to the internet with the passwords given, got wi fi ok.but no internet.
May 2017
The above comments are minor niggles,we had a very good stay.A nice touch from the owners was the luggage trolley supplied.
April 2017
Lovely cottage, lovely location! (We stayed last year too and have fallen in love with Westhaven and Polperro!). Fire alarm battery needs replacing, as was beeping on last day (note left in cottage also). Thank you to the owners & Toad Hall!
September 2016
Only problem we had was with the blind above the front door which is not secured properly and when the blind fell down for the 2nd time, the rod inside the blind managed to make a direct hit on my foot which was rather painful! Apart from that, the cottage was fabulously clean, comfortable and immediately felt like home. The views and position in the village are stunning. Thank you for a lovely place to stay again this year Toad Hall - there are never any nasty surprises and we will book again with you next year. We have recommended our friends to you and know they have booked and been very happy with their holiday cottages also.
May 2016

Just had an amazing holiday, we didn't want to leave! Lovely, cosy cottage in an amazing location, we couldn't believe our luck with the cottage and the weather - thank you!
July 2013
After a week's stay at Westhaven, I didn't want to come home! The location is absolutely fantastic, being able to hear and see the sea from every room. It may not be the most luxurious property in Polperro, but it can't be beaten on the views it has to offer. Thanks for the privilege!
May 2013
3rd time booking through toad hall, great service as always, girls in the office always helpfull if i ever need to ring in. Cant wait to come back next year :)

June 2023
This was our second visit to Westhaven and it won't be the last hopefully as it's a lovely cottage.

June 2022
Great pub for atmosphere
June 2022
There is always a lovely welcome at The Blue Peter
June 2022
As always a warm welcome and great atmosphere. It has all its old charm

February 2022
Very friendly staff and delicious hake meal?
December 2021
Absolutely fantastic , food was incredible, staff couldn’t do enough for you , it’s such a difficult place to find an evening table as you cannot pre book a table , but staff were happy to take a telephone no and call you as soon as a table became available, and that’s every night , even in October !! Having eaten their I now understand why they are inundated with bookings . Even with food allergies they went above and beyond to help , advise and swap for different ingredients, fabulous.
November 2021
Food was excellent, tried different dishes. Service was just right Staff were very friendly, and were always quick to respond to any request Very enjoyable visit and the pug has a good atmosphere

September 2021
July 2021
Always on our list places to eat. Fish & chip wrap is a must to try
July 2021
Only popped in for a drink, very typical quaint old fishing village pub, made to feel very welcome by lovely staff and would definitely visit again.

February 2020
Great food, super friendly, good selection of gin, poor selection of wine.

June 2018
Call for a drink after walking from Looe, had to make a return another day and we had a fabulous lunch. Lovely people. Lovely place. Lovely food.

The Three Pilchards
(Less than a mile)
(119)
The oldest pub in Polperro, full of historic charm with a hillside garden overlooking the village. Here you will be served hearty homemade meals including fresh seafood, along with a range of well-kept wines, beers and lagers.
The Three Pilchards, The Quay, Looe PL13 2QZ (Tel: 01503 272233)
Back for a second year and once again The Three Pilchards didn’t disappoint. Fabulous food, both quality, selection and portion size, and a good choice of drinks (although it’s difficult to beat a freshly drawn local pint of Doom.

Lovely pub, great staff Fab Fish & Chips, the view from the upper outdoor terrace is amazing , went twice .
September 2023
I fell in love with this place not only because of its history of fishermen and knitters but because of the fantastic food (the Fish Pie was my favourite) wide selection of Rum and very friendly, hard-working and efficient staff. We've booked a holiday in Polperro already for 2024 and will definitely be eating and drinking at The Three Pilchards.

Best food in the village, the Fish Pie is wonderful. Staff are extremely pleasant and attentive. Cosy and authentic.
May 2023
We had a great meal here during our stay.
May 2023
Great Pub, great staff, good food. Only criticism would be the price hikes since our last stay 14 months ago!
May 2023
Not the best atmosphere but food is good and worth a visit
May 2023
The fish pie is to die for. Lovely friendly pub and staff and totally different g friendly

September 2022
Food tasted like it had come out of the microwave, staff were arguing in front of customers, long wait for food, not a great experience

December 2021
Could perhaps do with a cheaper glass of wine 175 Sauvignon blanc £9 never been charged that. We didn’t ear but food looked lovely staff great.

December 2019
Really good service here. All good that came out looked delicious. Our favourite was the very generous fish pie. Kids fish and chips was huge and very tasty. Scallop and prawn combo a little disappointing, not much flavour and they wouldn't let the kids take the scallop shells with them!

I thought the service very poor in here. i was the only person sitting at the bar with my partner and with three members of staff available, i waited politely for 5 minutes before asking is anybody serving. The young lad turned round to and responded "I could be" the food was ok
August 2018

Fabulous!

August 2022
This is a cracking little museum! It may be small but it is packed with very informative stories and exhibits of the local area and history. Thoroughly recommended!

Interesting , good displays , well worth a visit

What a lovely setting, small but perfectly formed. We had a lovely cream tea.
September 2021
Really interesting.
