September 2023

Nice pub in beautiful village. Food and drink good and staff friendly.

July 2022

Overall, enjoyed our visit. Found the food a little overpriced for what it was, though. And staff were not wearing face coverings, nor was there a screen at the bar, which was off-putting for us.

Delicious food and great service - highly recommended.

August 2020

We ate at the Olive Tree one evening last week, and in no way regretted out choice. There was a varied menu and we had no difficulty in choosing our dishes. I had the soup special - smoked haddock chowder - and it was a meal in itself, and followed this with the fish special, a whole Dover Soul. Altogether a very satisfying dinner. Well recommended.

What a great pub, serving 1st class ale. The landlady always had a smile on her face despite the impact of Covid and British summer - its a shame it’s not my local pub !

May 2021

Don't eat anywhere else! Great food and staff.

May 2021

We were planning to stay 4 nights at Marquis of Lorne to celebrate her birthday. What a mistake. We only stayed for one, Beware, the photographs flatter to deceive. We found a run down dirty property which smelled of wet dogs. The carpet in the living room was filthy. dirty blanket and cushions on sofa, the wood burner was full of old ash, the kitchen, including the cooker, crockery and cutlery were dirty and insanitary No Anti Covid precautions. My wife and I spent 2 hours on arrival to try hard to clean the place enough to spend a night there. Toad Hall did offer to send in an emergency cleaner but by that time it was too late. We had wasted enough time already. The next day we had no hesitation in cancelling our booking and returning home. This whole visit was a great disappointment Not a birthday treat! I would definitely NOT recommend this accommodation or Toad Hall Cottages organisation.Terrible

November 2020

We had a fantastic lunch here. Proper traditional home cooked food - probably the best cottage pie I've ever had! All felt very safe and clean too, during the COVID situation.

Eggardon Hill
(3 miles)

(8)

Looked after by the National Trust, Eggardon Hill is a great place for walking, flying kites or simply taking in the extensive views of the surrounding countryside and the English Channel in the distance. The hill fort itself is about 2,500 years old, but originally there were two Bronze Age burial mounds on the summit. It's also an old smuggling spot - in the 18th century, Isaac Gulliver took advantage of the hill's commanding position and created a small plantation of trees to act as a landmark for his ships and help guide them to the coast.

East Cliff Beach
(4 miles)

(2)

A fine shingle beach with sand at the water’s edge, East Cliff Beach is a beautiful place to spend the day with the family on summer holidays in Dorset.  There’s lifeguard cover from July to September in the summer holidays on East Beach itself, but that doesn’t really cover East Cliff Beach, so just be careful when and where you swim and stay away from the cliff base to avoid falling stones.  There’s a long stay car park behind East Beach and a smaller short stay car park just before entering the harbour area in front of the Bridport Arms Hotel.  Toilets are located at the main West Bay Road car park and baby changing facilities are provided as well.  Dogs are permitted on the beach all year round, but it is a clean zone that’s regularly patrolled by wardens imposing fines, so don’t forget to clean up after your pets!

We walked from Lyme Regis to Charmouth across this beach at low tide. MUST be low tide. It was a super walk, a bit challenging in places as we had climb over rocks. The dog absolutely loved it.

October 2018

I really enjoyed this side looking at interesting stone formations. The beach 'shelving' has to be looked out for if you are paddling and it is better to wait until very low tide so that you can see where bits rise and fall.

West Bay Beach, Bridport
(4 miles)

(4)

Under the golden glow of the majestic sandstone cliffs and the Golden Cap, the highest cliff on the south coast, West Bay Beach (made famous by the popular drama series Broadchurch) is in the south of the historic market town of Bridport.  At the western end of Chesil Beach, the area forms part of the Dorset Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site within Lyme Bay and is a wonderful location for family holidays.  Bridport Town is a short bus ride away or a very pleasant 20-minute walk.  The beach itself is shingle, sand and pebbles with steep shelving, a slipway and a harbour.  There’s an auxiliary coastguard and lifeguards at your service, toilets, disabled toilets and a beachside refreshment kiosk.  Nearby activities include kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, swimming surfing and jet skiing.  There are also car parks close by and while dogs are banned from May to September, they are allowed out of the summer season.

September 2018

Lovely place to wonder around. Great relaxing beach to stroll along brilliant view of the cliffs. Easy parking. Fish and chips from the Seasider chippie went there twice in the week. really tasty.

Hive Beach
(4 miles)

(3)

A National Trust beach in Burton Bradstock, Hive Beach is part of an estate that forms one of the main gateways to the Jurassic Coast and the South West Coast Path.  Around it are beautiful cliff top walks, and surrounded by the sandstone cliffs, Hive Beach perfect for visiting families.  Made of shingle, it forms part of the larger Chesil Beach and is on a World Heritage Site that has the largest shingle ridge in the world.  The nearby Burton Cliff is an example of extraordinary geology in the area, which appears to glow bright gold in the sunlight.  Perfect for picnics, the beach has a car park and toilets nearby, linked to the Hove Beach Café which specializes in serving fish.  From 1st June to the end of September there are restrictions for dogs on the beach, but they are welcome on at least part of it all year round.

Eype Beach
(4 miles)

(2)

A small pebble beach close to the historic market town of Bridport, Eype Beach is a steep shelved beach (Eype means ‘steep place’) with beautiful views of the West Dorset coast.  Dogs are permitted all year round and refreshments are available at Lower Eype.  The beach is part of one of the most beautiful little villages in the area, where buildings can be traced back to the late 18th century.  Consisting of Lower Eype and Higher Eype, it’s the lower part of the village that has access to the beach, which also boasts the magnificent Golden Cap, the highest cliff on the south coast at 191-metres above sea level.  The beach is favoured by swimmers and fishing fans as well as avid fossil hunters, and there is parking nearby for a few cars as well as toilets and a pub.

Cogden Beach
(5 miles)

(2)

A National Trust beach, Cogden is a little known, secluded sand and shingle beach that comes complete with a members’ car park.  It has a wonderful sense of feeling remote but being surprisingly easy to access – the bus even stops there!  There aren’t any facilities, but it’s a beautiful setting, and in truth, the lack of goings on is part of its charm.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round and it’s a haven for walkers looking to explore the area with the National Trust’s two mile/one-hour circular walk passing through it from flower-filled farmland, past ground nesting birds and along this striking section of the Jurassic Coast, known for having the largest shingle ridge in the world.

September 2023

We had a wonderful stay in Holly cottage thankyou! We found the cottage furnished to a very high standard. The bath was very comfy & huge! The views were delightful! The local pub served a super Sunday lunch. And we enjoyed exploring the many footpaths around the village with our dog.

August 2023

Lovely cottage in a beautiful village

December 2022

What a lovely cosy cottage, so beautifully decorated and looking so Christmassy. A very cold and icy few days in Dorset so we really appreciated the log burner and efficient central heating. We had some lovely walks locally and would really recommended Soulshine in Bridport, the food was delicious. Thank you for an unforgettable stay.

December 2022

We came back again, not sure if it’s the 3rd or 4th time, delightful as before! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home. The cottage has real quality in everything in it. Wonderful village and views from the kitchen are stunning. Our favourite beach is Burton Bradstock which is beautiful, lovely blue sky and very calm sea. The Hive beach café is as good as ever, good food, value and service. Thank you again for sharing your home.

November 2022

Super time in your lovely cottage. Thanks so much!

November 2022

Our family of four (plus 1 dog!) had a lovely 3 night stay at the end of October half-term in Holly Cottage. It’s tastefully furnished with super comfy beds and our children loved the swings in the garden. Scenic walks from the front door and a short drive to Bridport and West Bay and the beautiful Jurassic coast. A couple of cleanliness points which I have raised with Toad Hall. Could also do with another lamp in the living room, it was a bit gloomy! But overall a very pretty cottage.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your short break at Holly Cottage. Thank you for getting in touch regarding a few minor cleanliness issues at the cottage. This has been passed onto our Property Support team who were able to rectify this after your stay. Following your comments, the owner of the cottage has now provided an additional lamp in the living room. We thank you for your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Dorset in the future.

October 2022

Holly Cottage is everything one wishes for in a rental – spotlessly clean, chic décor to the highest spec, cosy fire, sunny garden with a vista and superb service from toad hall cottages. Practically perfect in every way… Do try: The anchor Inn in Seatown, The Masons Arms in Branscombe and the coastal path from there to Beer (and the quarry caving), Symondsbury Estate Kitchen and the walk up Colmers hill. Montacute house and Mapperton House. The many walks out from the village. Thank you for sharing your jewel of a Cottage.

September 2022

Wonderful holiday again. Everything just as we remembered from our last visit. We went to River Cottage for lunch in East Devon which was really worth the wait. The Station Kitchen at West Bay was great for lunch too! Sad we are going, one week is not enough. Already missing the beautiful countryside.

September 2022

Wonderful few days relaxing in this cottage and Loders.

September 2022

A nice relaxing week in this lovely cottage so much to do, we will have to come back again… The Jurassic coast is an amazing place, we can recommend one of the guided fossil walks from the museum in Lyme Regis. Very interesting and yes we did find several good examples of Fossils! Loders and surrounding countryside is great for walking and has good local pubs!

August 2022

We had a lovely stay at holly cottage. Such a fantastic location and house. We fell in love with Loders and this part of Dorset. We enjoyed lovely country walks and delicious meals in local pubs. We went to The Crown, The Pymore Inn and The Three Horse Shoes inn – all were amazing!

July 2022

This is the nicest house and garden we have stayed in over 25 years of holidaying with our dog/s. The house was immaculately presented and had so many thoughtful touches such as providing cling film, foil, various cooking oils, dishwasher and washing tablets. Even a Dyson fan - which was useful during our stay as the weather was warm. Bed linen all top quality and the King Size bed (only one we used) was very comfortable. The garden merits a special mention. Pretty and tidy, the lawn had been mowed, it is properly fully enclosed with no doggy 'hazards'! Also there are a couple of comfortable chairs for sitting outside as well as the garden table and chairs. The owners have thought of everything and we had a lovely, relaxing week. Highly recommended.

June 2022

Lovely location, comfortable accommodation, gorgeous garden. A couple of garden chairs would be a bonus

May 2022

We absolutely loved staying here - so cosy and comfortable. Convenient for pub walks, trips to the sea and really friendly neighbours too. Recommend; Brunch at The Hive Cafe, Burton Bradstock. Lunch at Pymore Inn, easy to walk to, just 35 mins away. Lunch at The Anchor, Seatown. We look forward to returning again, Sylvia and Steve

April 2022

A lovely, relaxing stay in this beautiful cottage. So peaceful sitting in the garden - we were very lucky with the weather. Fantastic walks both from the cottage and around Bridport, Eype and West Bay. Staff at The Loders Arms are very friendly. Would definately visit again. Taken from the Guest Book

April 2022

What a lovely cottage and location. Holly cottage is immaculate and well stocked with everything you need. The garden is a wonderful treat with fabulous views. Loders is quiet village ideally located to explore the Jurassic Coast. On our week we did a lot of walking and exploring, the furthest west was a drive to Seaton and then a lovely walk through the quaint fishing village of Beer,. The beach walk from Burton Bradstock to West Bay is well worth it and Cogden to West Bexington the same, with a stop off at the Hive cafe for well earned drinks and food. There are also beautiful walks from the doorstep of the cottage A thoroughly, lovely and relaxing week

February 2022

September 2020 - Guest Book What a beautifully appointed cosy cottage. A real home from home in just the right way during these very difficult times. We were nervous about travelling as we came from a Covid FREE area, but the cottage was spotless. We really enjoyed walking through the lane to Uploader, Seatown & West Bay. The views from the back of Holly Cottage are stunning and worth staying her fore! Lovely surprise on arrival as was how well equipped the place is. Thank you M&J

September 2020 - Guest Book A beautiful cottage with everything you need. So spoilt with the weather! Would recommend the following: The Crown, Uploaders Tropical Gardens at Abbotsbury View for the top of Eggerdon Hill. We will definitely be recommending Holly Cottage to our friends. Thank you

September 2020

Really enjoyed our stay . However felt it was expensive for a 4 night stay . We could have stayed longer if the cottage had been available for a longer period.

July 2020
