June 2019
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Rick Stein's in a lovely setting with sea views. I am coeliac so requested a gluten free menu which was provided with no fuss. When the freshly baked bread arrived before the meal I was surprised and pleased to receive some GF bread and butter and the 3 course meal was very good for me and my companions. We've been to Rick Stein's restaurants in Padstow and the food in Sandbanks was equally as good.
May 2019
Had a wonderful evening with good service and of course excellent food - would we return - you bet. The views from the restaurant were idyllic and added to our enjoyment - thank you.

Swanky venue! Live singer (Thurs pm) was very good
September 2023
Lovely decor, great food and staff, excellent location if staying at sandbanks, but still worth a visit of you are staying a bit further away.
August 2023
we had a lovely meal at this resetaurant whilst staying in Sandbank, we was a little confused when trying to find the restaurant we had looked at the website, which was out of date and still registers it as being called 'Oriel', but on asking a staff member we were told it had changed its name back in April. Food was lovely, service and staff very good. Highly recommend

With a huge al-fresco terrace overlooking Studland Bay and a bright, sunny interior this is the place to go for a laid back yet delicious meal with family or friends. As the name suggests fish and seafood play a leading role on the menu although there are equally appetising meat and vegetarian options on offer here too, all cooked to perfection and served by the friendly front of house team. Open high season only, booking essential.

Loved this restaurant. Definitely worth a visit as food was great and lovely views too. A perfect place to watch the sunset! The short ferry ride was good fun but do bring a torch as the short walk from the ferry to the restaurant has no street lights at night!

wonderful day trip to the Island, beautiful place to visit, highly recommended
April 2024
Brownsea Island ferry was great, however we would have liked the choice to stay a little longer on the island our 3 hours went very quickly.
November 2023
Great way to see around the area and learn more about the islands.
August 2023
Unfortunately the ferry from Sanbanks to Brownsea Island has closed and we had to drive round to Poole
April 2022
to visit Brownsea Island you need a ferry trip - this ferry provider is best used from Poole Quay. Here you can find a multi-storey carpark close by. The ferries were running regularly on our recent visit and we went on the first one - 9:30 - booking via the National Trust website - a requirement during Covid times. We found the ferry trip well run and were lucky to be able to sit on the upper desk in the open air.
September 2021
Great attraction, beautiful location plus the added bonus of the red squirrels
July 2019
Very convenient little boat service across to a Brownsea Island. The children loved exploring, the nature park was a great idea and we spotted a red squirrel! Great location for a picnic in a very “green” space.

Sandbanks Beach
(Less than a mile)
(29)
Set on a small peninsula, just a stone's throw from some of the most expensive and exclusive homes in the country, the world-renowned Sandbanks beach is one of the most beautiful and clean beaches on the South Coast of England.
This spacious, family-friendly beach is blessed with soft golden sand, crystal clear waters and breathtaking views of across the English Channel; and has earned the coveted Blue Flag status for 30 consecutive years.
Beach facilities include a crazy golf course, children's play area, barbecue area, toilets and a cafe.
There is a designated area for dogs at the western end of Sandbanks beach (near the chain ferry). Dog owners are requested to always keep dogs on a lead on the promenade.
Best place in the world for dog walking - Our dog Alfie had just the best weekend ??

April 2022

April 2022

October 2021
Beautiful, clean beach
June 2021
Excellent beach
June 2021
Great beach for little ones
September 2020
The cleanest beach we have been to in Britain and in these strange times, grest social distancing from everyone there
August 2020
Amazing beach - who needs the med when you have sandbanks
August 2020
Had an excellent stay over New Year. Clean, well equipped and warm. Everything we hoped for. Handy for beach and ferry, with Swanage, Poole and Bournemouth not far away. Would definitely like to return.
January 2020
We rented a hut on Sandbanks which was brilliant as with 5 children, we had a lot of stuff that could be left there all week. The only thing that lets this beach down is the cost of parking for the day and the terrible shortage of ladies loos. People are using the loos to change in and this results on ridiculously long queues on sunny holiday days. The beach is beautiful and very clean and safe for small children..
September 2019
Fantastic beach out of season, very dog friendly
November 2018
Excellent. Clean and child safe
July 2018
A nice property with good location to nearby beach and ferries. (Although ferry traffic gets busy on Panorama Road at times) Layout of property good on 3 levels. Only disappointment was level of cleanliness dirty floors and balcony furniture. Something easily remedied
July 2018
Shell Bay Beach
(Less than a mile)
(4)
Shell Bay beach is an unspoilt sandy beach, backed by dunes and heathland which gives it a beautifully wild feel. With spectacular views across the bay to nearby Bournemouth, it also provides a good vantage point for watching the ships passing in and out of Poole Harbour.
Except during the busiest summer months, the beach is usually a haven of tranquillity. Situated on the south side of the mouth of Poole Harbour, at the very tip of the National Trust owned Studland Peninsula, it's harder to reach but well worth the effort. Either drive along the full length of the peninsula from the Swanage end, and you'll find Shell Bay is the last of Studland's beautiful beaches. Alternatively, catch the ferry from Sandbanks which runs regularly and carries vehicles, foot passengers and cyclists across the entrance to the harbour to the opposite shore.
The beach is great for family-friendly bathing, fishing and a variety of watersports including sailing and windsurfing. It also has toilets and plenty of parking. There is a designated naturist area between Shell Bay and Knoll Beach.
Dogs are welcome all year round, during the winter months there are no restrictions but between 1 April and 30 September they are required to be on a short lead (max 2m).
Shell Bay Seafood Restaurant lies opposite the beach - an outstanding, Michelin-listed eatery with fine views out over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island.
Stayed in Sandbanks many times - this was the 1st time we caught the ferry on foot - had a lovely peaceful time walking the dog. Will definitely make a return trip next time down ?
October 2023
Beautiful and quiet
September 2023
Why did the system not accept my review until I upped my review from 2 star to 3 star. Funny that!
January 2020
Disappointed with the beach. It has deteriorated since we were last there, probably due to weather. There are now 2 streams crossing it which means that you have to do a detour to carry on walking on the beach. This in turn is causing additional damage and wear to dunes etc. All it needs is the National Trust to spend a little money to put some stepping stones in
January 2020
Shore Road Beach, Sandbanks
(2 miles)
(1)
Shore Road is a golden sandy beach with a promenade that stretches for miles along the beautiful Sandbanks peninsula - perfect for a seaside stroll or cycle (except during peak times in July & August from 10am to 6pm when cycles are not permitted).
Famed for its Mediterranean-style cafes and outstanding views across the harbour to the Purbeck hills and Brownsea Island, this beach is very family-friendly thanks to its gentle slope into clean waters and seasonal lifeguard cover.
Dogs are not allowed on the main beach from 1st May - 30th September, however they are permitted on the promenade on a lead all year round.
This Blue Flag standard beach has several watersports hire shops and many other beach facilities, including plenty of parking, cafe/restaurant, beach shop, beach huts and deck chairs for hire, toilets and outdoor showers, and reusable water bottle drinking water refill points.
House very near to the clean, sandy beach….excellent
July 2023
Studland Beach
(2 miles)
A stunning piece of natural coastline featuring a four-mile stretch of sandy beach and views of Old Harry Rocks and the Isle of Wight. Ideal for water sports, sandcastles and wildlife safari. Designated trails through the sand dunes and woodlands, allow for spotting of deer, insects, birds and a vast array of wild flowers. There’s a local café/bistro and a mobile refreshment van, but this is also the most picturesque place for a picnic.
Canford Cliffs Beach
(2 miles)
A beautifully quiet and tranquil stretch of golden sandy beach where you can enjoy a swim in crystal clear waters or relax in the sunshine on the soft sand with a picnic and a book. Apart from toilets on the promenade, there are no facilities at the beach itself but the shops, bars and restaurants of Canford Cliffs are within easy walking distance.

April 2023
Yes, it’s in a fantastic location, the sunny kitchen dinner was perfect for spending family time together after a day exploring. Brownsea Island was a real highlight.
September 2022
Despite the niggles mentioned above, we loved our stay and would recommend to anyone. We enjoyed Lazy Jacks for breakfast, lunch and just drinks. Oriels was fab for coffee or dinner. Rick Stein’s was fabulous. We’d suggest ordering groceries as not many amenities around and it’s quite a hike to Tesco without a car. Toad Hall Cottages were fantastic, we would book with them again. I even got a call a couple of days before we arrived to let me know we could get in to the property earlier than 4pm. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
August 2022
We had a wonderful stay at Outspan. Hope to re-visit sometime. Many thanks.

May 2022
We had a great stay - Sandbanks & the surrounding area makes a great holiday destination
March 2022
We were able to get into the accommodation slightly earlier which was a real bonus. It was spotlessly clean in a superb quiet location. The house was very well presented with all the necessary equipment and furnishings. The open plan kitchen / conservatory was lovey to have breakfast in and then to come home after a busy day exploring and be able to light a roaring log burner was another special treat. We can highly recommend staying at this house and will hopefully be returning as there is so much still to do in the area. Toad Hall Cottages dealt with all our booking and queries and can also recommend and thank them for all their assistance in making our holiday extra special.
Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Outspan. We will look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

We enjoyed it very much. It was a shame that the ferry was out of action but it did not stop us from having a great holiday.
July 2019
We had a wonderfull stay at Outspan. Very close to the beach and nice interior. In the descriptions for sightseeing we missed the personal touch of the owners and at arrival we missed some basic kitchen needs like salt, pepper and for instance a knife to cut bread.

Guest Book - Sep19 - A fabulous holiday in a fantastic house. We have had a lovely week and we will be back. Left some takeaway menu's for other guests, recommended the Thai & Chinese in Parkstone.
August 2019
We enjoyed it very much. It was a shame that the ferry was out of action but it did not stop us from having a great holiday.
July 2019
We had a wonderfull stay at Outspan. Very close to the beach and nice interior. In the descriptions for sightseeing we missed the personal touch of the owners and at arrival we missed some basic kitchen needs like salt, pepper and for instance a knife to cut bread.

We booked a birthday meal during our stay in Sandbanks but sadly they cancelled 24 hours beforehand due to a special event which was very disappointing. We did however manage to get into Rockfish on Poole Quay which was lovely.
