Crinnis is a newly refurbished detached bungalow nestled in an elevated position in the heart of the super village of Chillington, a short distance from Slapton Sands. This 3 bedroom property has a lovely garden with a terrace which wraps around, and a decking to look over the rooftops to the countryside beyond. Theres’ a log burner for the cooler months after enjoying beautiful walks either on the doorstep, or perhaps with the convenient location to explore the South West Coast Path, and a little further afield lies Dartmoor. Crinnis is comfortable, cosy, and just a minute from the shop, a really great base to enjoy this beautiful area of South Devon.

Chillington is a large village positioned on the coastal road between the bustling market town of Kingsbridge, 6 miles away, and historic Dartmouth, 11 miles away, both well served with shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets. The village itself has a shop and post office, park and village hall, along with a bakery, doctors, salon,  and dog groomers.  The popular seaside villages of Torcross and Beesands are 3 miles away, with access to the South West Coast Path and there are pretty walks around the surrounding countryside close by. Salcombe is just 11 miles away, and can also be accessed on the foot ferry from the beaches at East Portlemouth. Dartmoor is 16 miles away and there are nearby attractions such as Woodlands leisure park for all the family to enjoy. Chillington is a ‘proper’ village and a great choice for your South Devon holiday.

Front door leads into hallway with cupboard for shoes and coats.
Door to your right leads into the open plan living area.
Lounge with two seater sofas and large pouffe, log burner, patio doors to decking, Smart TV.
Kitchen area with table and seats for 6, split electric oven and ceramic hob, dishwasher, under counter fridge, microwave.
Door to Utility room. Under counter freezer, washing machine, sink, coat hooks, door to front and rear gardens.
Master Bedroom with 4'6' double bed, patio doors to rear garden and terrace.
Bedroom 2 with twin 3’ beds.
Bedroom 3 with 3’ single bed.
Bathroom with bath with rainfall shower over, WC and basin.

From the lounge area: enclosed deck area with views over the village to the surrounding countryside.

Garden wraps around, sides mainly gravel, front slight terraced area, rear is mainly lawn with patio terrace.

Chillington lies a few miles from Kingsbridge as you head towards the coast. The village has a small shop/Post Office and pub, and benefits from being a short drive away from the popular Stokeley Farm Shop with its café, deli counter, butcher, grocery and garden centre.

Take the coastal road to Dartmouth for a truly spectacular drive, and on your way, you’ll pass a number of beaches, the closest of which is at Torcross, a family-friendly and dog-friendly beach that is just a five minute drive away.

From Torcross you can walk for literally miles along Slapton Sands, which despite its name is actually a pebble beach! Or take a tranquil stroll around Slapton Ley, a freshwater lake and National Nature Reserve which runs parallel to the beach. Alternatively, whether you’re a keen hiker or simply fancy a ramble along the cliffs, you're sure to enjoy the scenic coast path in the opposite direction towards Beesands, the historic village of Hallsands and the lighthouse at Start Point.

With so much to see and do on the doorstep, a holiday cottage in Chillington is a fantastic base for exploring the beautiful South Hams coast and countryside.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great garden with outside bar and very attentive restaurant staff, nothing was too much trouble. The quality and presentation of the food was exceptional. We felt happy to eat inside with tables well distanced and cleaned after previous customers, while staff and customers, when moving around the eating areas, were expected to wear masks. So much so we frequented the outside bar and the restaurant numerous times while on holiday in the village. A great place to eat after a tiring day on the beach.

June 2023

Had a lovely lunch sitting on the verandah overlooking the Let. Food and service top notch

May 2023

Very good fish and chips

June 2022

Although this is a great property in a wonderful place for a holiday, the standard of cleanliness is well below the standards one should expect when paying premium price, the wooden floor needs serious attention as it has ingrained dirt, leaving my crawling grandchild with filthy legs and feet despite my mopping to try and clean it. The vacuum was full of smelly dog hair, the toaster had not been cleaned and neither was the tumble drier which included the previous guests knickers! The internal windows and mirrors all need a thorough clean too! I’m very dissapointed with the standard particularly with the Covid 19 situation and with the response of THC, who seem to think it’s ok!

August 2021

Great fish & chips and ice cream

End of July/early August 2021, still only takeaway service. Expensive chips, measly portion and 30 minute wait to takeaway

August 2021

Excellent ice cream

April 2021

Amazing food and customer service.

November 2020

This is a really good cafe that offers all sorts of food & drink. They’ve taken into account all the COVID restrictions so we felt safe. The staff were very helpful.

October 2020

An excellent take away dinner option! Far too good, as we ate from there several times this week!

August 2020

Great for a meal or a snack - the pizzas are Big. Nice inside and outside terrace facing the road, away from the winds off the sea. Very dog friendly.

September 2019

Great venue! Super service and super food.

August 2019

Had lovely fish and chips and ice cream here, we thought the fish and chips were better here than at the Start Bay and the ice cream better than at the other cafe, Sea Breeze.

May 2019

Our favourite place for drinks and food . Very friendly staff Perfect location Highly recommend .

May 2019

We had a lovely lunch here. Service was very good and quick. The restaurant was quiet which probably helped!

May 2019

Nice welcome including our dog. Excellent food, although we did have to wait 40 minutes - lunch time rush, ?. Would recommend.

April 2019

It would be useful to have a menu with prices outside so people could decide if it was expensive as we did.

Lovely food, shame it didn’t stay open later than 5pm in the week.

Great Food and Drink, wish you were open more evenings, the sharing platters are great !!!

May 2018

Excellent breakfast (although a bit dear!).

October 2017

Had great takeaway fish & chips and sausage and chips in late September. Also a fantastic breakfast on the last day of our holiday. Great views of the sea one side and the Ley the other. Would recommend.

October 2017

Lovely place for meals - expensive for family of 5 and very busy but food was good especially the pizzas. Staff very polite and helpful too.

September 2017

Had a very nice meal here with my wife and daughters. The staff went out of their way to fulfil an unusual food order for picky kids. Some nice beers available too - a great way to spend an hour or so after a hard days walking.

August 2017

Good environment but no wifi and a long wait for our orders.

July 2017

Great place to eat and prices are great. Food is exceptional and we went a few times during our stay.

July 2017

Love this place. Reasonably priced food. Great pizzas, nice fresh seafood and takeaway to enjoy on the beach. Really light and spacious interior too. Looks like it was quite recently refurbed.

My son and his girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed their SUP experience, the instructor was friendly and helpful, and delivered boards and equipment directly to the beach in front of apartment.

June 2023

Visited on a sunny morning in May so quite busy. We were greeted at the entrance, seated inside then left. No menu provided, I had to ask for it. A couple who arrived well after us had their order taken first. We waited for ages. Then discovered there is a half hour hour gap between breakfast orders ending and lunch orders beginning when only cakes are availble, not even a sandwich. Staff were rushed and inattentive, disappointing experience.

We really enjoyed this as first timers. The teaching session was excellent and gave us basic paddle boarding skills and the confidence to hire out boards again at South Milton Sands during our stay.

August 2022

First time I had tried paddleboarding.Equipment and instructor were first class.Really enjoyed it so much that I tried my skills out later on in my holiday and am a convert, now planning more.

July 2022

Excellent tuition from Kate and very enjoyable

June 2022

Went here as a family of five and had a great time paddle boarding.Well looked after by Crispin and Steve. Great fun as well once you sort your wobbly legs out.

June 2021

My Son & I had a great time taking part in this for the 1st time. Crispin was very caring, patient and a brilliant instructor. It poured of rain but it remained warm despite the early start! This did not dampen our enthusiasm & Crispin did offer to curtail the 1 of the 2 hours and refund us but we were enjoying ourselves far too much! We both ended up in the estuary for a swim anyway! Absolutely brilliant 2 hours & highly recommended.

August 2020

Our two hour early morning session was absolutely brilliant, thank you Crispin, we'll be back!

August 2019

Fantastic early morning session with Crispin - got us two oldies up on our feet paddling around the Kingsbridge estuary - what a fabulous way to start the day. Five star - would like to do it again.

Very enjoyable - will definitely do it again. Crispin was very helpful.

Slapton Sands
Slapton Sands
(2 miles)

(28)

A long stretch of beach with spectacular views of the sea stretching into the distance, Slapton Sands is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and for good reason. Adjacent to Slapton Ley, a freshwater lake that’s home to an abundance of wildlife and one of the many reasons people come to visit the area, the beach has a history of welcoming families in the summer for long days in the sunshine, building sandcastles, surfing, windsurfing and kayaking. It’s amazing to believe that this peaceful corner of South Devon has its place in military history as in 1943 the beach was taken over by allied forces to use as a rehearsal area for the D-Day landings. However, live ammunition and poor visibility ended in the deaths of more than 700 servicemen, so today there is a stone monument in place for Operation Tiger, as it was called, as well as a Sherman Tank at nearby Torcross. On a more current note, there is a beachside café at Slapton Sands for teas, coffees and other light bites, and there are also toilets nearby. The beach has disabled access, and also allows dogs throughout the year, so it really is fun for everyone and very easy to get to. There is parking nearby and in the summer months from May to September there is lifeguard cover. Last, but not least, a small collection of pubs reside in Torcross for those who are feeling peckish after a long day in the fresh air, or if you have been for a nice walk along the sand!

Fab stretch of beach - quite a trek from one end to another, you’ll need a drink from the coffee van at Pilchard Cove or cafes in Torcross! Over the hill from Torcross to bee sands has an amazing view

August 2023

A stunning coastline well worth a visit. If you drive along the coast road from Dartmouth the views are incredible. Slapton Sands is a shingle beach and dog friendly. If the first car park is busy continue further on and the next one is usually quieter, payment required.

July 2023

Visited here out of respect for those who practiced the D-Day landings on this beach. If venturing doen to the sea from the car park please note it was hard getting back up as you sink into the stones, so not so good for those with any mobility issues.

July 2023

Beautiful pebbly beach, water was so clear!

June 2023

Lovely beach with clear blue sea, very small shingle so no good if u have children who want to build a sand castle, also water gets deep very quickly

June 2023

Beautiful quiet unspoilt beach

April 2023

Really interesting history. Great for the children to link back to a Michael Morpurgo story too.

April 2022

loved it

November 2021

Long pebbly beach. Parking right on the front.

September 2021

We visited on a very overcast day with a keen wind blowing, so we did not see the sands at their best. We walked into Slapton and had tea in the church and found a pleasant footpath back to the beach car park, which ran past the nature reserve at Slapton Ley.

September 2021

A beautiful, gentle walk along the side of the nature reserve, if you make it to the turn off to go into Slapton, there is a lovely pub up there, the Queens Arms great gardens, food and friendly staff.

September 2021

Absolutely stunning stretch of beach (non-sandy which we prefer) with miles of space. Beautiful for early morning dog walks with a coffee at the end from the 'cafe on the beach' at Strete Gate picnic area.

May 2021

Walked along the beach and round the Nature reserve whilst staying in Slapton village. Lovely long shingle beach - our dog loved it. Lovely circular walk through the medieval village and back through the Nature reserve and along the beach.

November 2020

Ample parking, nice walk along the beach.

October 2020

Beautiful beach with a stunning sunrise. The sound of the sea on the pebbles is very relaxing. Really clean . No rubbish . Beautiful walks nearby. Nice cafe and restaurants. Dog friendly too.

September 2020

We have had lovely walks along Clapton and the views are stunning

February 2020

If you love the sound of the waves on pebbles this has to be one of the best beaches in the world !

April 2019

A totally unspoilt stretch of beach with wild flowers and wonderfully coloured rocks. We were lucky to be staying on a stones throw away and spent a few happy hours there with our dog watching the locals beach fishing in the evenings - bliss!

August 2018

Lovely walking -

June 2018

Lovely walk for wild flowers, bird watching sea views

May 2018

Clean beach.No plastic.

May 2018

This is certainly a lovely beach and so little rubbish.

April 2018

Really interesting area and good walks along the coast and by the Ley. Generous provision of toilets and parking and a number of places to eat. Would particularly recommend The Start Bay Inn, The Boathouse and Seabreeze Cafe at Torcross. Also very handy that there is a bus should you want to walk one way and get a bus back. Very beautiful and peaceful.

October 2017

Beautiful beach right across from our Cottage

September 2017

Wonderful nature reserve with well signposted walks.

September 2017

Beautiful stretch of shingle beach - dogs allowed all year. Not many facilities - we went to the Strete end of the beach as there is a great little coffee hut there - great coffee and friendly staff.

September 2017

Clapton Sands is beautiful. The rocks are the most beautiful colours, wild flowers abound on the beach, the views in either direction are stunning and it is rarely over crowded. One of the most wonderful areas in the U.K.

May 2017

Great place for a walk along the beach and had some great events for children at Easter. Great fish and chips in the pub at the end on Torcross

Beesands
Beesands
(3 miles)

(45)

Close to Kingsbridge and a favourite amongst residents and holiday makers in the South West, Beesands is a wonderful mile-long shingle beach surrounded by fields and a freshwater lake. You get a real flavour of the West Country here with fresh crab sandwiches for sale nearby and lots of Devon holiday cottages within walking distance to make it really convenient. The beach has won awards from the Marine Conservation Society as well as having The Blue Flag marker to attest to its excellence and high standards, so families and swimmers can be reassured. The beach is popular for surfing and body boarding amongst other water sports including fishing, so tackle is on sale close by. You can pick up light bites at nearby cafes as and when you’re ready, making it easy to spend the whole day running around on the sand and enjoying your seaside holiday to the max. Beesands is very much a beach for everyone thanks to its convenient location, easy and free road parking along most of the beach, level access, and the toilets, cafes and pubs close by. Dogs are also welcome on the beach throughout the year so the whole family can enjoy it!

September 2023

Stunning beach, fantastic sunset.

August 2023

Great place for an evening drink - beach not very suitable for children .

August 2023

We stayed for a week in a house opposite the beach in Beesands. The beach is a pebble beach and is very quiet. There is no lifeguard but there are locals there everyday with their boats so I am sure they would let you know if the conditions were unsafe. There is a fish and chip shop/restaurant and 1 pub restaurant - both serving lovely food and offer very friendly service. There is very little nearby so you do need a car to get around. Nearest supermarket was around 20-30 minute car ride away. The kids went in the sea almost every day and had the best time! They wore full wetsuits and water shoes which I thoroughly recommend as it is a pebble beach, and the kids got stung by a jelly fish when they paddled without wetsuits. When the tide was in, or coming in, the kids felt safer as they were in their depth. When the tide is out, there is a ledge which drops quite sharply. I am not a fan of sand so sitting on my camping chair on the pebble beach was bliss for me. We even spotted seals on most days! The locals with their boats didn't seem too friendly but we loved watching them take their boats out and bring them back in again. It was fascinating. I would have loved to ask them more about the beach, tides and coastal erosion but they didn't seem very approachable. However, I do appreciate that they must find tourists a little irritating. I would absolutely go back to Beesands for a holiday. It is my idea of blissful relaxation.

August 2023

Friendly, quiet location and shingle beach. Nice beach walk to Torcross at low tide. Pub/restaurant and Britannia restaurant and takeaway were very good. Very narrow roads to Beesands from turning off main road, but enjoyable holiday

June 2023

Just lovely. Excellent food at Britannia on the beach and they also have an excellent takeaway

August 2022

July 2022

Absolute delight to stay in this quiet little seaside village! Mostly holiday let properties nowadays but still some locals around to talk to about the history of the area. The village is extremely clean including the beach considering it is all dog friendly! Popular with local & travelling anglers mainly at weekends I also fished to some degree every day of our stay. We will be going back soon!

July 2022

Had a lovely walk. Beautiful setting.

June 2022

lovely location, enjoyed many morning walks along the beach, and caught 14 mackerel. The road access is not the best, drive slowly, you cannot do anything else, and hey who's in a rush on holiday

May 2022

Loved Beesands, we stayed in one of the cottages for a week and enjoyed the peace and quiet and strolling along the beach, very dog friendly to!

May 2022

loved it here

Gorgeous stretch of beach - we loved finding pebbles to take home! The walks to Torcross and Hallsands and an absolute must for stunning views

October 2021

Lovely clean dog-friendly beach and an easy walk from Clover Cottage and over to Torcross too

September 2021

Lovely quiet and dog friendly beach with good facilities. Good place to walk from to nearby beaches.

July 2021

The actual usable beach is a fair walk from the village ( parking not allowed as the beach fronting the village no longer exists due to flood defences

June 2021

much less busy than most local beaches (because it is shingle) but great for kids above toddler age. lovely walks in both directions, eg to Torcross for chips or to Start Point for views. Easy parking and a good beach shack cafe and take away

June 2021

Nice village on the coast

May 2021

December 2020

14 Beesands is a great property. About 10 feet away from the beach/ sea wall. Pub 20 paces away. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Fabulous sunsets and seals swimming past. Who could ask for more. Well equipped cottage, very comfy beds cosy and warm

October 2020

The most wonderful little fishing village- narrow lanes on approach so drive carefully- but it's worth it. Lovely shingle beach and stunning views across Start Bay. Two great eateries- Britannia and The Cricket Inn are worth a visit. Beesands is just beautiful, I love it there.

September 2020

Amazing location right on the beach. We spent a week in Beesands and found the property to be perfect for our big group - plenty of space for everyone to relax and a very well appointed kitchen. Would highly recommend.

September 2020

Beautiful setting and lovely property decorated to a high standard, well equipped and perfect place for a getaway to peace and quiet. Short distance to the beach. Would definitely return. We had a super weekend at this property celebrating a family birthday

January 2020

Beautiful relaxing place to spend time.

November 2019

Lovely little beach, nice quiet location and free parking a bonus

August 2019

Worth the uphill/downhill walk along the coast path. Lovely spot.

August 2019

Easy to park, good food options. plenty of room for everyone.

August 2019

I love Beesands . The only sad thing is even more people have found out about it, 10 years since my last visit. Sadly the sea has removed the road handy for parking and is gradually eroding the cliff edges. Not as quiet as it used to be but the attractions of two nice eating places have probably increased the footfall.

June 2019

It’s a new look on the outside but the food very much of the same high quality at the Britannia in Beesands. The new ‘shack’ doesn’t really do it justice with a completely renovated contemporary dining room in keeping with the seaside location and beach hut vibe with excellent views of the bay. There seems to be loads more space too and the higher ceiling gives light to the treats being served from the kitchen. Dave and the team in the kitchen maintain their high standards of food preparation and making dishes that look and taste fantastic, the front of house team are equally as attentive making a great relaxed dining experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Britannia so come back if you have been before and see the changes or give it a go if you never have been. ????????

June 2019

I've been coming to Beesands since I was 2 years old (61 now!). Not every year since adulthood but still can't stay away. Its an ideal location for those who want to get away from it all. Its close enough to Kingsbridge and within easy reach of Dartmouth , Salcombe and Brixham. The locals are very friendly and will always be up for a chat. Its almost tempting to keep this little coastal secret to myself!

October 2018

Bit scary driving down to the beach due to the narrow road but worth it when you got there. Had fish and chips and ate them on the tables that were provided while looking out to sea.

September 2018

Had a wonderful meal in the beach cafe .

July 2018

We've been coming to this general area for over 20 years now and have stayed in many of the surrounding villages . This was the first time we'd stayed in Beesands - but we had walked through it on our coastal walks on many, many occasions. We both loved the peaceful charm of the place - secluded , tranquil and away from it all . But unlike Hallsands (next village along) , it does have two places where you can eat ( The cricket Inn and the Britannia0)and they are both very good . The beach is great - shingle - but really uncrowded in June . ( We were lucky with the weather) and on a clear, sunny day - it is quite magical. ( What a shame the water is so freezing cold !!) This stretch of coastline is stunning - and even if you do no other walks - walk over to Hallsands and read about the old village that was washed away in January 1917 - or just drink in the stunning views . I love this part of Devon and it never fails to take my breath away when you stand on the coast path near the lighthouse and look back across Start Bay to Hallsands , Beesands , Torr Cross , and over towards Dartmouth. Wonderful.

June 2018

Beautiful stoney beach with views of Start Point Lighthouse. Tasty fish and chips available, popular pub and public toilets.

June 2018

Lovely place, good food and very dog friendly :-)

March 2018

Britannia Fish - Great fish - always fresh and lovely family run business. A must for anyone who likes eating good fish!

North Hallsands
North Hallsands
(3 miles)

(7)

A quiet beach of fine shingle with a reed bed providing the backdrop, North Hallsands is a picturesque place to visit for anyone staying in one of our holiday cottages in Devon. The beach is divided into north and south, and it’s about nine miles from Kingsbridge facing towards Start Bay. There is level access to the sand from North Hallsands car park, although it is small so keep that in mind in busier months, although there’s also another small car park five minutes away for South Hallsands. You might want to note that there aren’t any facilities or toilets close to the beach, which does mean that it’s fantastically peaceful and an experience that’s all about the natural environment, which ultimately is what we all love about a Devon break! For those bringing their four legged friends with them, the beach is completely dog friendly, welcoming them all year round, so just don’t get carried away with all that fun in the sand and get cut off by the tide in all the excitement. The sand stretches a fair distance at low tide and we wouldn’t want you to get wet!

Lannacombe Beach
Lannacombe Beach
(4 miles)

(13)

Rugged and unspoiled, Lannacombe is the beach for those looking for total escapism on their South West holiday. Small and perfect for escaping from the summer crowds, it’s one of the best places to visit to simply enjoy the Devon scenery in all its natural glory. There’s a small car park just behind the beach so do get there early in order to guarantee a space, although there is further parking a short walk away if need be. Dogs are welcome at the beach throughout the year and as it offers access to the Coast Path it’s a good idea to combine your visit with a walk to take in the views of sea and countryside, perhaps towards Start Point where there is further parking around 30-40 minutes away on foot. At low tide the beach offers gentle rock pooling so it’s a lovely spot to head to for a quiet afternoon with the family, building sandcastles and eating sandwiches if you remember to bring them. There aren’t any cafes and restaurants immediately on site, so do remember to take anything you need with you, and there aren’t any toilets in the near vicinity either, so that’s worth keeping in mind when you plan your day. If you have been on holidays in Devon and Cornwall before you will also know that you need to watch our for the tide at many of the beaches, including this one in order to avoid disappointment or getting wet, you can pick up a tide timetable at local post offices!

Lovely walk along the coast from Horizons. Beautiful sandy beach

April 2024

Lannacombe is a lovely beach! The beach is gentle and slopes nicely into the sea. We swam in October and it was beautiful. If you haven’t been there are no facilities and only parking for about 8-9 cars so get there early in peak season. It’s on the SW Coast path and we have walked from East Prawle though takes a while. Fabulous beach. Keep it to yourself!

October 2023

Best beach in the area, spent a lovely sunny day here.

September 2023

A favourite beach of us, we spent another lovely afternoon there, superb view and great for rock pooling.

April 2022

Fantastic beach! Secluded and beautiful. Windy narrow lanes to reach it but worth it. We were able to get a car space in the small car park which was great. Our dog loved it and so did we!

October 2021

Best beach in the world! Dont tell anyone or else we will never get one of the 8 parking spaces!

September 2021

Unspoilt and away from the crowds. Perfect secret

August 2021

Beautiful unspoilt beach.

July 2021

We walked here from East Prawle, it was a delightful find and we explored the beach whilst en route along the coastal path. I imagine it would be extremely busy in high season but we were the only ones there so felt very lucky to have found it.

June 2021

Lovely but inaccessible down rough extremely narrow lane with very tiny parking & limited turning , best to walk from Start Point car park

October 2020

Very limited parking (but we got lucky!). Wide, spacious but covered in dense seaweed - what's happened? It never used to be so weedy.

August 2019

Excellent secluded beach once you find it. Signs would be helpful but this would be detrimental as visitors would "flood" the small car park. Well worth visiting and walking along the stunning cliff walks

September 2018

A lovely beach where we enjoy sitting and eating our sandwiches after walking from Start Point.

May 2018

Mill Bay
(5 miles)

(29)

A sandy beach on the East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe Estuary, at low tide Mill Bay stretches all the way up the coastline to East Portlemouth beach. It has the most wonderful view of Salcombe itself and is popular with everyone, especially families, because of the large swathes of sand on which you can set up camp for the day and enjoy safe, clean swimming conditions. Parking is limited, so the best way to get to it is either by boat or by catching the East Portlemouth Ferry from Salcombe and strolling along. That way you can also nip past The Venus Café by the slipway to pick ice creams, sandwiches and refreshments before settling in for the day. There are rock pools to explore, sandcastles to build and swimming to be done, just make sure you’re careful of any boats coming in and out of the beach. Dogs are welcome at Mill Bay all year round, and it makes an excellent spot to run around with them whatever time of the year. Like the other beaches along this stretch of coast, Mill Bay makes for an ideal place to spend the day right into the evening, although it is a little stroll to the nearest facilities. It’s also a lovely beach to meander across en route towards Gara Rock or on a longer walk along the coast path.

Brilliant beach 3 miles from the cottage

June 2022

Gorgeous little Bay close to where we were staying our dog. Loved fetching his ball in and out the water. Very pretty spot.

April 2022

Lovely beach and you can walk to Gara rock from here and along beach to the ferry crossing to salcombe

March 2022

Great beach. Bumpy access road as sand has blown across it. Slightly marred by 1-2 selfish dog owners who have left their calling cards

November 2021

We were lucky enough to spend 3 days on this beautiful beach. Fabulous place ??

September 2021

Fantastic beach one of the best in the area. Have to get to car park (National Trust) very early if you don't want to carry all your stuff to the beach.

September 2021

We attempted to drive to Mill Bay car park- not a good idea in August! No parking spaces, no turning points. We tried another day, parking at Gara Rock and asking down the bridle path. We have a disabled granddaughter, the walk down was manageable but the return walk was much more difficult. Beautiful beach and worth the walk.

September 2021

Lovely, clean, sandy beach in wonderful location with beautiful views and easy access from Salcombe via the East Portlemouth ferry.

August 2021

Lovely beach, clear water

July 2021

Lovely beach for children to play on.

June 2021

Favourite beach going back to my childhood. The road to it was closed due to a land slip in January. Talked to the workmen who said it was due to reopen November 2020.

October 2020

Lovely beach but this year overrun with people arriving by motor boat- so it felt a little worrying for kids to swim out among them,(and frankly it spoilt the view) and engine noise/fumes at the end of the day as everyone left!

September 2020

Wonderful

September 2019

I endorse all of the other favourable comments and emphasise the urgent need to make the lavatories hygienic. In fact all of the public conveniences are anything but convenient.

September 2019

Lovely beach, handy to have little food caravan selling crepes, drinks and ice cream, good quality too. The toilets were disgusting though and should have been cleaned more regularly, also waste bins overflowing.

August 2019

Great place for a day on the beach. Safe and dog friendly

August 2019

Lovely large sandy beach, perfect for young children who want to play in the strem and build dams, or play in the sea without large waves!

July 2019

Great beach

October 2018

A fabulous beach. Especially great fun at low tide for a water loving Labrador. We enjoyed our visits here. We also loved the passenger ferry from here to Salcombe. Beautiful beach.

October 2018

Beautiful beach lovely and clean. Small car park free to N.T. members. Highly recommended. Drawback no immediate café available. Venus café nearest but a trek if not mobile.

September 2018

Lovely beach well worth a visit. Dog friendly as well. Well worth the £7-50 national trust car parking fee.

July 2018

amazing beach, dog friendly, only downside is the toilets near the National Trust hut are very poor

February 2024

Good contact from Christine the owner, appreciated her text saying the cottage was ready before 4pm

February 2024

We enjoyed our stay very much. Normally we only stay in rural properties, but crinnis was very quiet and great for the bus stop, the village shop was useful as well. It's on our list of properties now for return visits.

January 2024

We love this place, it’s perfect for our needs as we have 2 very old dogs who can’t do stairs. The place is easy to clean before departure with wood floors etc. the owner is exceptionally nice, both times we have stayed, she had the place ready well before 4pm. Very dog friendly, safe enclosed and beautiful garden. Thank you

September 2023

Everything was spotlessly clean and well thought out. It’s a shame that the local pub The Bear and Blacksmith is closed as we would have liked to have used it as we have on previous holidays

Thank you for your feedback and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Crinnis again. We are also disappointed The Bear and Blacksmith is not currently open and hope someone can take it on soon-we hope you enjoyed one of the other great pubs in the neighbouring villages instead.

September 2023

Fabulous bungalow with all mod cons, dogs were welcome and we loved the dirty paws and boots shower outside the back door. Fantastic views, beautiful garden and a very friendly jack daw who called a couple of times for food and a chat! Thank you to Christine who left us some lovely little gifts with her welcome card on our arrival. Will definitely want to come again.

July 2023

We enjoyed our stay very much. The bungalow is very comfortable with a homely atmosphere. Looking forward to our next stay.

July 2023

Lovely bungalow in the heart of the village, but just set back enough to provide privacy and a fabulous view. Overall a great location, perfect for the bus stop which we used to get to Dartmouth and back - scenery on this route is stunning. Great base to walk to Torcross & from there the south west coast path. Property had everything we needed & we really enjoyed chilling in the garden & on the decking area. Weather was very kind to us. Would love to return

June 2023

Would stay again.

May 2023

We had a very enjoyable stay in this bungalow. It was lovely and comfortable. The garden is large and safe for dogs which was just what we needed. The position is ideal for visiting many places in south Devon. The local public house in Chillingford is now closed but there are many places to eat within a short drive.Welcome goodies left for our arrival were appreciated.Would love to return to this property in the future.

September 2022

Really enjoyed our stay. Very clean and well equipped.

September 2022

Second visit, great place to stay

August 2022

Standard of property was exceptional. No clear info of when bin days though was only problem but not a big one. Maybe a pedestal fan additionally would have been good due to hot weather.

August 2022

Very much enjoyed our stay. Crinnis was superbly appointed, spotlessly clean and felt like a home!

July 2022

Crinnis is a really lovely property which is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We were welcomed with some wine, chocolates and fresh flowers which was a lovely surprise. It is very well equipped, the wifi was excellent and has a super range of TV channels. The garden is really lovely but we didn't get warm enough weather to enjoy it to the full. The view from the living room over the countryside is very relaxing and the deck is a wonderful place to have meals weather permitting. Within 30-60 mins you can visit lots of wonderful places like Dartmouth, Greenway House, Coleton Fisher, Salcombe, Totnes and Buckfast Abbey. There are also several beautiful beaches a short drive away. We had delicious meals at The Globe in Frogmore where the staff are very friendly and have entertainment on some nights, and sampled fresh fish at the Start Bay Inn down at Slapton Sands. The Cott Inn outside Totnes is another lovely place to eat and while driving in Dartmoor National Park we had a lovely lunch at the Cafe on the Green in Widecombe in the Moor. We visited both of the farm shops Stokeley and Springfield which are only 5 mins away and have a mouthwatering selection of foods. We would have no hesitation in recommending this holiday home and Toad Hall Cottages are a very professional company and a pleasure to deal with.

June 2022

Crinnis was spotlessly clean when we arrived, very well equipped all round, especially the kitchen. Communication with proprietor before and during our stay was excellent. Location really great for exploring the nearby coastline and some lovely country walks.

June 2022

We were delighted with Crinnis. It is the first time we have booked this property and certainly won't be our last. Beautifully presented, the owners kindly contacted us prior to our arrival to let us know about roadworks in the area and were very accommodating of our particular requirements.

May 2022

Great place to stay, clean , well equipped , lovely garden , would happily stay again.

April 2022

Lovely place, look forward to staying again soon.

January 2022

Lovely property, maybe swap the flowers and wine for tea bags, sugar and a small milk for a cuppa on arrival?

November 2021

Nice quiet location but not isolated

November 2021

Lovely house, lovely gardens, really almost perfect except for the feathers - the owners went above and beyond for us and the dogs with the most welcoming pack on arrival, even providing towels and bowls for the dogs - thank you, wouldn't hesitate to come again

October 2021

very comfy place to stay - great gardens for dogs and what better way to sit outside and have a drink

October 2021

Beautiful cottage , everything you may need for a Devon break

September 2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Crinnis and would stay again in the future.

September 2021

We were very happy with the property, very clean, well furnished, everything in good working order. Obviously a lot of thought has been given to the needs and comfort of guests...including their dogs!

August 2021

Property had excellent facilities and was spotlessly clean. Super stay

August 2021

Fantastically well equipped house, really appreciated the welcome pack and dog towels/bowls, we all had a lovely holiday and hope to return
