For those wanting to make the most of the beautiful Sandbanks beaches, they are little more than a mile away; just a few minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot. The wider area is renowned for its leisure facilities and beaches with Poole & Bournemouth also just a few miles away. Cinemas, shopping and boating facilities are easily accessible and there is a championship golf course at Parkstone Golf Club which is located only a short distance away at Lower Parkstone.

When you book a holiday in Lilliput, you won’t end up on the fictional island of Gulliver’s Travels, but instead you’ll find yourself in a stylish, waterside suburb of Poole in Dorset. Also known as the Salterns, Lilliput sits right on the edge of Poole Harbour, bordering Sandbanks, and enjoys stunning views across the harbour to Brownsea Island, and on to the Purbeck Hills beyond.
Life in Lilliput revolves around the water. The shoreline is lined by sailing clubs, with Salterns Marina standing centre stage, while the harbour waters are filled with boats of all shapes and sizes, from luxury yachts to small dinghies. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or are wanting to learn the ropes, you couldn’t be better placed. The sheltered waters of Poole Harbour are not only a mecca for sailors, but are also perfect for water sports, from exhilarating jet ski safaris and wind surf sessions to stand-up paddle boarding and boating.
If balmy beach days are more your thing, Sandbanks’ famous long, golden beach is only around a mile’s walk away, where you can enjoy sandy strolls, sunbathing, swimming and spectacular sunset picnics. From Sandbanks, you can also jump on the chain ferry to the idyllic Shell Bay beach on the Studland Peninsula.
Another must when on holiday in Lilliput is to catch the ferry to Brownsea Island. Owned by the National Trust, Brownsea rests in the middle of Poole Harbour and is a haven for wildlife, including the rare red squirrel. Back on the mainland, keen golfers can enjoy a round at Parkstone Golf Club, only a mile from Lilliput and considered one of finest and best known golf courses on the south coast.
To fuel all these adventures, you’ll find a great selection of places to eat in and around Lilliput. Pick up fresh pastries for breakfast from the patisserie, enjoy a meal out at the local Thai restaurant, or pick up takeaway fish’n’chips to eat while watching the sunset over the bay. While staying in such an impressive coastal setting, it’s only right to indulge in some fresh seafood, so head to Rick Stein’s Sandbanks restaurant, or hop on the ferry to the Shell Bay Seafood Restaurant or stylish Pig on the Beach.
You’ll find a parade of shops in Lilliput for the days you’d like to stay in and self cater, while both Poole and Bournemouth are only a few miles away, offering loads of shops, eateries and attractions, including cinemas, theatres and an aquarium, not to mention miles of beautiful beaches.
To the front of the property is access to the garage with a driveway providing off road parking and a secure outside store located under the external staircase which leads to the front door and the first-floor accommodation. One car can be parked on the driveway and a further car can occupy the garage.
The substantial garage occupies the whole of the ground floor and has a single electric powered garage door to the front with double doors to the rear leading to the wash down area. The garage houses the laundry appliances as well as sofas and a football table.

Never had a bad experience here. Staff always friendly and efficient and the food tastes very fresh and full of flavour. The place has nice vibe to it. The evening closing time is later than some other restaurants too; 10.30pm on a Saturday night. If you have the energy to walk up Evening Hill from Sandbanks, harbourside, to get here, you'll get great views especially at sunset.

Food was good but service was very very slow and not up to standard. We had our meals served the other way round, our main courses arrived first, them followed by the starters and the cocktails turned up last!!!

A seriously good thai restaurant - a good 'modern' vibe, great music, excellent cocktails, made properly, a good menu with a good range of food and excellent staff.

Shore Road is a golden sandy beach with a promenade that stretches for miles along the beautiful Sandbanks peninsula - perfect for a seaside stroll or cycle (except during peak times in July & August from 10am to 6pm when cycles are not permitted).
Famed for its Mediterranean-style cafes and outstanding views across the harbour to the Purbeck hills and Brownsea Island, this beach is very family-friendly thanks to its gentle slope into clean waters and seasonal lifeguard cover.
Dogs are not allowed on the main beach from 1st May - 30th September, however they are permitted on the promenade on a lead all year round.
This Blue Flag standard beach has several watersports hire shops and many other beach facilities, including plenty of parking, cafe/restaurant, beach shop, beach huts and deck chairs for hire, toilets and outdoor showers, and reusable water bottle drinking water refill points.

August 2020
Amazing beach - who needs the med when you have sandbanks
August 2020
Had an excellent stay over New Year. Clean, well equipped and warm. Everything we hoped for. Handy for beach and ferry, with Swanage, Poole and Bournemouth not far away. Would definitely like to return.
January 2020
We rented a hut on Sandbanks which was brilliant as with 5 children, we had a lot of stuff that could be left there all week. The only thing that lets this beach down is the cost of parking for the day and the terrible shortage of ladies loos. People are using the loos to change in and this results on ridiculously long queues on sunny holiday days. The beach is beautiful and very clean and safe for small children..
September 2019
Fantastic beach out of season, very dog friendly
November 2018
Excellent. Clean and child safe
July 2018
A nice property with good location to nearby beach and ferries. (Although ferry traffic gets busy on Panorama Road at times) Layout of property good on 3 levels. Only disappointment was level of cleanliness dirty floors and balcony furniture. Something easily remedied

Branksome Chine Beach
(2 miles)
(2)
Branksome Beach is a wide, golden stretch of sand popular among locals and visitors alike, in part due to its Blue Flag status which highlights high standards of cleanliness on the beach and in the bathing waters.
The beach benefits from a promenade behind and many facilities including beach huts, shop, bar and restaurant. There is also good disabled access and a safe swim zone.
Watersports include swimming and windsurfing and there is lifeguard cover in the summer months.
Dogs are not allowed on the main beach from the 1st May - 30th September, however they are allowed on the promenade on a short lead.
Up to its usual standard
October 2023
Excellent beach with a couple of miles walk possible along the promenade, soft sand and plenty of options for refreshments. Barbeques are also permitted.
June 2023
Shell Bay Beach
(3 miles)
(4)
Shell Bay beach is an unspoilt sandy beach, backed by dunes and heathland which gives it a beautifully wild feel. With spectacular views across the bay to nearby Bournemouth, it also provides a good vantage point for watching the ships passing in and out of Poole Harbour.
Except during the busiest summer months, the beach is usually a haven of tranquillity. Situated on the south side of the mouth of Poole Harbour, at the very tip of the National Trust owned Studland Peninsula, it's harder to reach but well worth the effort. Either drive along the full length of the peninsula from the Swanage end, and you'll find Shell Bay is the last of Studland's beautiful beaches. Alternatively, catch the ferry from Sandbanks which runs regularly and carries vehicles, foot passengers and cyclists across the entrance to the harbour to the opposite shore.
The beach is great for family-friendly bathing, fishing and a variety of watersports including sailing and windsurfing. It also has toilets and plenty of parking. There is a designated naturist area between Shell Bay and Knoll Beach.
Dogs are welcome all year round, during the winter months there are no restrictions but between 1 April and 30 September they are required to be on a short lead (max 2m).
Shell Bay Seafood Restaurant lies opposite the beach - an outstanding, Michelin-listed eatery with fine views out over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island.
Stayed in Sandbanks many times - this was the 1st time we caught the ferry on foot - had a lovely peaceful time walking the dog. Will definitely make a return trip next time down ?
October 2023
Beautiful and quiet
September 2023
Why did the system not accept my review until I upped my review from 2 star to 3 star. Funny that!
January 2020
Disappointed with the beach. It has deteriorated since we were last there, probably due to weather. There are now 2 streams crossing it which means that you have to do a detour to carry on walking on the beach. This in turn is causing additional damage and wear to dunes etc. All it needs is the National Trust to spend a little money to put some stepping stones in
January 2020
September 2023

April 2023
We have enjoyed our stay in your lovely stylish house. Every room beautifully furnished and a well equipped kitchen. We love coming to Poole and this is the best house we have stayed in. Thanks for a great holiday.
September 2022
We had a lovely time. Although no pets are allowed it might be worth highlighting that the owners have pets as it was evident that was dog hair on the carpets and flooring which may be an issue for some people with allergies.
Thank you for your feedback, and we are glad you had a lovely time at the property. We have looked into your comments and found that the rug and carpets are pure wool and do shed slightly. It has been noted that whilst the owners do have a dog they have not been at the property for some while. We make a note on our system that occasionally the owner may stay at the property with a dog specifically to notify any guest with allergies. The property is fully cleaned after owners visit to ensure no evidence of dog has been at the property, once again than you for your feedback.

It’s a beautiful house in a beautiful location, great for water sports, bring your own equipment. Local Thai and fish ‘n chip restaurants serve delicious food and are very friendly. Mark Bennett’s bakery has a wide range of amazing breads, pastries, sandwiches. Perfect for breakfast also. Little Tesco also around the corner, perfect for a little stock up. Easy walking distance to either Sandbanks or Poole where there are also lots of amenities. Sandbanks beach is beautiful.
June 2022
It is a fabulous property and we can't wait to come again. Fiona is an excellent caretaker and was very available and helpful and communicative.
June 2022
Fiona and her team ensured the house was immaculate and it really was spotless. Best beds ever! Bed and bedding was superb and we felt like we were sleeping on clouds. The views from the house were beautiful. Fish and chip shop had the widest range of fish options we have ever seen and it was delicious. Bakery was fabulous and they will take pre-orders which is worth knowing. Thai restaurant very good and they also offer take-away. Walk to Evening Hill and then along to Sandbanks beach is lovely. Compton Acres worth a visit. Monkey World towards Wareham is a special place where they rescue primates from all over the world. Poole Town has a wonderful Deli by Tesco Express on the marina. Brownsea Island is really special but best to go in reasonable weather and take a picnic. Lilliput is a brilliant location. Moors Valley Country Park just beyond Ringwood offers something for everyone. We had a harbour boat trip for £10 for the hour and it was great value plus the commentary was really interesting. We had a brilliant holiday. Thank you to the admin team at Toad Hall Cottages for providing plenty of information and responding promptly to booking queries.

Perfect place for a family girls trip. Lovely place with lovely sunset views
September 2023
We have had a truly lovely stay at your beautiful home. So much wildlife to see and enjoy on the doorstep. We've spent several hours just at the little private beach as the weather thas been perfect! We absalutely love the views that change everytime you look at them - the bird watching is great here too. We've visited all along Sandbanks all of Studland Bay, Swanage, been on a boat trip of the Harbour and seen the Monkeys at Monkey World, plus friends and family have come on some trips too. All in all a fabulous few days and have a location we won;t hesitate to recommend.Thank you.

Fiona the caretaker was very helpful and professional
July 2022

Wonderful food and atmosphere.
September 2023
Never had a bad experience here. Staff always friendly and efficient and the food tastes very fresh and full of flavour. The place has nice vibe to it. The evening closing time is later than some other restaurants too; 10.30pm on a Saturday night. If you have the energy to walk up Evening Hill from Sandbanks, harbourside, to get here, you'll get great views especially at sunset.

Great friendly restaurant, delicious food, good value
July 2022
What an excellent restaurant. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. Well worth a visit.
June 2022
Food was good but service was very very slow and not up to standard. We had our meals served the other way round, our main courses arrived first, them followed by the starters and the cocktails turned up last!!!
October 2021
A seriously good thai restaurant - a good 'modern' vibe, great music, excellent cocktails, made properly, a good menu with a good range of food and excellent staff.
October 2021
Highly recommended. The food was absolutely delicious. Service was done with a smile but it was a little slow on the evening we visited. The side dishes to share were well worth trying. A very nice clean venue.

Shore Road Beach, Sandbanks
(Less than a mile)
(1)
House very near to the clean, sandy beach….excellent

Canford Cliffs Beach
(2 miles)
A beautifully quiet and tranquil stretch of golden sandy beach where you can enjoy a swim in crystal clear waters or relax in the sunshine on the soft sand with a picnic and a book. Apart from toilets on the promenade, there are no facilities at the beach itself but the shops, bars and restaurants of Canford Cliffs are within easy walking distance.
Sandbanks Beach
(2 miles)
(29)
Set on a small peninsula, just a stone's throw from some of the most expensive and exclusive homes in the country, the world-renowned Sandbanks beach is one of the most beautiful and clean beaches on the South Coast of England.
This spacious, family-friendly beach is blessed with soft golden sand, crystal clear waters and breathtaking views of across the English Channel; and has earned the coveted Blue Flag status for 30 consecutive years.
Beach facilities include a crazy golf course, children's play area, barbecue area, toilets and a cafe.
There is a designated area for dogs at the western end of Sandbanks beach (near the chain ferry). Dog owners are requested to always keep dogs on a lead on the promenade.

June 2021

June 2021
Great beach for little ones
September 2020
The cleanest beach we have been to in Britain and in these strange times, grest social distancing from everyone there
July 2018
